I think the secret to looking good in front of witnesses is to not care what anybody thinks...but we do. So the real secret is to have fun and know it's not shameful to fall because we all do. I went up the lift with a guy who I had seen skiing the mogul side of Ripcord at Sugarbush and I told him that he looked like he knew what he was doing. It seemed to make his day. And he was the kind of skier I like to try to follow. He wasn't intimidated by skiing under the lift, he wasn't afraid of taking a difficult line. I enjoy your videos and hope you are inspired to make more! BTW I love Highboy and don't think anyone can see well enough to know how well it is being skied either.

Thank you for your kind words. I have a bunch of videos in process and hope to get them out in the near future. The only problem is I have a busy travel schedule for work over the next few weeks so they will have to wait. As for looking good, I agree with you that you just have to not care what people think and have a good time. I once skied with a guy at Crested Butte who didn't care what people thought, he just skied hard, hit a lot of jumps, and looked like he was genuinely having fun. In the end, that's what really matters.

The crowd at the bottom of Whistler's Peak Chair is always watching and cheering for skiers dropping off the Waterfall Cliffband and Air Jordon.

I probably need to get back to Whistler as you are the second to recommend Air Jordan and I'm interested in how many people ski it on a daily basis. My wife would love that as she is a big fan of Whistler and says we don't get there enough.

At Palisades Tahoe, (1) Fingers under KT -22 and (2) Palisades near Siberia have been in multiple ski films and deservedly so. Amazing to see pro level skiers showboating on a regular basis so close to these lifts.
@matthewbennettutah Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the recommendations. Fingers was one run I really considered putting on the list. The reason I didn't is that I so rarely see anyone skiing it and so I left it off the list. When someone does ski it well, it is amazing.
@JJAndre Жыл бұрын
Fingers does require lots of snow. This season it was skied very frequently. Perhaps your visits have been when there is less snow.

Decades ago I rode up the lift above Outer Limits with a really friendly guy wearing a US Freestyle Team jacket. Later saw him skiing down Outer Limits. Absolutely crushed it. So steep and icy.

Isn't it great to watch someone ski a run like that so well? Thanks for the comment.

Back in the day, circa 1976 for me, Exhibition at Sun Valley had nicely shaped long ski bumps very visible from the since removed Exhibition single chair. A few years later, circa 1981, the since-removed Exhibition triple chair still had a nice view of Exhibition. Lots of excellent skiers to watch while ascending.
@matthewbennettutah Жыл бұрын
I actually wanted to include Exhibition from Sun Valley in the video but it is now too far away from the lift line. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
@brucerorty401424 күн бұрын
@@matthewbennettutah We'd enjoy a RIP best showoff runs, with Exhibition and others no longer easily visible from relocated lifts. Dropout 3 and Wipeout 3 are very visible from Chair 23 at Mammoth.

@@brucerorty4014 That sounds like a great idea. I have a bunch of videos ready to publish but have been busy with work. Look for them to drop next week as I have the next 2 weeks off. As for Mammoth, my buddy Jim has been there this week and says coverage is amazing!

Haven't ever gotten to hit them, but the fingers at Palisades! Also flippers at Bridger Bowl

Now that I think about it I'd definitely also say Brains Run at Winter Park and the Chair 23 lift line at Mammoth

I thought about the fingers at Palisades but saw only one or two skiers in the number of years that Squaw was my home mountain. That being said, one of my ski buddies from the area fell down it this season and I'm sure it made for quite the show.

Thanks for the comment. I think there needs to be something else in addition to the captive audience. Al's Run, Gunbarrel, and Outer Limits all have car-swallowing moguls. Gad II Lift Line and Fred's Trees have the steeps, as did K2 Face. What are those lift-line runs that really stand out?
@johnvanluvanee4132 Жыл бұрын
Having stayed at GMD several times, I have watched far more people come down Rustler and tearing it up than I've ever seen on Fred's under Collins and I've ridden that lift a lot.
@matthewbennettutah Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Whenever I ski Rustler, I ski it like nobody is watching and so that probably influences my list. I'll avoid Fred's Trees because I know people are watching and only want to ski it when I am having a great day.

Another great video during an epic year. It is also nice that I seem to be doing a lot of skiing in a bunch of your vids. I guess that is the benefit of having video googles. My skiing friends love me because they are usually the topic of my filming!!!

Diving-board at Alta has been a showoff run this year. Though I think this is the only year it's ever been a showoff run.

Diving-board usually has a massive drop. This year the snow is so deep, it is only a few feet. Too bad it was closed this past Saturday or most advanced intermediate skiers would have had no trouble skiing it.
