Pretty cool recommandations ! I still think that the New Balance Rainier are really slept on. You basically have a mix between a sneaker and a boot. Also they have very cool collabs with Joe Freshgoods, ALD and Junya Watanabe

Great video. I picked up a pair of Addidas Terrex Ax4 Beta two weeks ago. Super comfy and warm. Got drenched last Wednesday and they did the job to keep me dry.

My daily sneakers for the past 3 years have been the Nike Pegasus Trail 2, and I love them to bits. Handled super well all sorts of weather (in Finland), been washed in the washing machine on a regular basis, no scuffs or any ripping anywhere. I only swap to winter ankle boots when the snow comes, and for that I got a Salomon X Ultra. They're not the warmest, so for longer walks in the snow and below -10 C it's good to add a wool insole or a heat pack, but they are durable and comfortable.

About Adidas - make sure you bye “continental” track, not a “stealth”. Last one have disgusting grip on a classic city surface, but work well for rock/hiking.

I've seen a few! I like their approach, but I think it's important not to get too obsessed over that side of things to the point you forget about wearing clothes you think are cool or interesting.

It can also be easy to fixate on getting the most rugged, hardcore boots or something like that, when all we realistically use them for is walking down the street or wearing to a friend's house and it wont matter. So you think you'll ever cut some sneakers in half on here?

I actually prefer the gore-tex 610's over all the others, idk there's something about that black and yellow 'construction zone' styling that piques my dark future/cyberpunk interest. I love the high contrast and lace tucking features. Though I gotto say the Tokyo Design 610's are super futuristic and clean looking if you wanted to do the opposite of cyberpunk... idk what that'd be called? Futurewave Utopian? Where everything is light grey and very clean and sleek looking. All of that said, maybe it was being raised on a farm but for me winter is black leather boots... just had the same pair for years, zips up the sides, super comfy, literally walked miles and miles and miles in them and they are waterproof, warm and honestly just kind of suit all of my outfits as an easy switch out if the weather is particularly cold or wet.

That's a great point, it does give them a very rugged, performance-centric look about them which is actually fairly rare VS the other models. There's also an 'away grey' colour which looks super nice, much more like the classic NB style, but still with the GTX lining so would really suit people who want that performance without the look of a water-resistant shoe. Ultramodern maybe? Future utopian also makes sense, and I like that there are multiple flavours of 'futuristic clothing' around depending on how you want to engage with it

I recently bought and returned a pair of Salomon XT-RUSH Utility, I found them rather uncomfortable, with what seems to be arch support in the sole, which is something I don't need in sneakers, they felt like 2 bumps pushing in to the side of my foot. Shame because they were sick looking 😢 - my question is are all Salomon like this?

Im new to winter sneakers. Could someone explain how goretex/terrax/gtx works? As I understand its mesh with water repellant. But to my knowledge similar coating dissolves eventually and you get only underlaying material, so how long would it last? Also point of this is to keep mesh, and if so what the point of doing it in winter, where you get cold wind which is unpleasant for feet?

Its based of PTFE which has another name: Teflon. Goretex is basically a new form of Teflon. The inventor is Robert Gore, hence the Gore in Goretex.

Its a French company but the name is in Maori, maybe a connection to French Polynesia and New Zealand. The full name is "Hoka One One" which isn't pronounced as Hoka 1 1 but Hoka O-ne O-ne. It means to fly over the Earth. This is also why some Hoka shoes have Maori names, like Kaha and Acapana. But the founders themselves are a couple of ex-Salomon employees who are trail runners.

Altra, Topo Athletic, ASICS, and New Balance are worth checking out. The first two also are level heel to toe which is how you are supposed to be which means it'll take a bit to get used to.

I like that they're slightly chunkier and have a mix of futuristic and retro about them. They were also not as popular as the 2 and 3 when I got my first pair so liked that they were a bit different. The 2 is more futuristic though for sure, and I still like the high version a lot. Also it's hard to find Bambas in my size (UK 11.5) so I don't often get much choice!
