Economy: I get that we have one of the largest economies in the world but our Purchasing power per person in comparison to all other top economies is abysmally low, categorising our country into a “poor” nation. Our huge population is the reason our economy is at the top. 2. Military: I agree we have one of the best in the world. But that isn’t the only criteria for being a superpower. You should have the ability to dictate much of the world with your military might. The US and USSR did that for many years during the Cold War. Now, China is doing the same with countries like US, Japan. It is the intimidation factor. India lacks that since we take a neutral stance to almost everything. 3. Soft power: Indian influence is still extremely low. Bollywood is everywhere? Just because people know about Bollywood doesn’t make it relevant. It has to dominate a lot of aspects of people’s life outside. And secondly due to our country’s lack of permanent seat in the UN, we have no power in what our say is. Ultimately, I believe that India’s neutral stance to many issues and its inability to poke and establish authority is the reason it won’t be a superpower.
