Great video but miss some really interesting things to do in Lyon.😱 I'm a french guy who lives in Lyon since 30 years past, so I recommand to add 😍: - great walk to Parc de la Tête d'Or : zoo, lake, flowers (actually, more than 300 types of roses), tropical plants... - Same for Parc Miribel-Jonage : walk, ride (roller/bicycle/horse/boat), aquatic games, climbing, beach volley... - visit and eat (exotic) at Mekong Village (near entrance of Parc Miribel Jonage), some shows at night - take a boat trip from Lyon to south (Lyon-Avignon-Arles...) - have shopping journey to mall Centre Commercial La Part-Dieu or Centre Commercial Confluence - participate to Fête du Beaujolais and Côtes du Rhône and Fête des Lumières - go to flea market in Les Puces Du Canal (Villeurbanne) ou Les marchés du Vieux Lyon (Marché de la Création, Marché de l'Artisanat, Marché Biologique) - and for soccer fans, take a look at Groupama Stadium (soccer team Olympique Lyonnais) Décines... Have a nice trip ! 👍😉

@@felixchenevas8278 lol... stay at your home is better if you don't know what tourism is. Part Dieu Westfield is the biggest mall in France who has 4 floors with more than 300 stores. Just Google search before saying stupide things. Do you really think foreigners who visit for example Paris and Champs Élysées don't come to do shopping ? Champs Elysées is only a street full of rich stores with rich brands. Nothing else to visit and see in this street but million visitors anyway.

Me and my wife are foreign that has been living in Lyon from January 2015 to July 2018. It has been awesome experience during our stay. Calm, cozy, chilling, and peaceful city makes us doesn't want to going back home. But it is too bad we have to leave Lyon and go back to our country due our job contract ended at 2018. We say farewell and promise will go back to visit Lyon in the future. such an awesome City.

I lived and worked in Lyon, France from 1989 to 1996. You picked some good ones! To which I would add paying a visit to La Parc de la Tete d'Or which is an amazing park with a zoo and has one of the very first Velodroms ever and La Musee de la Resistance. Lyon was the capital of the Resistance during the German occupation in the second warld war. Many Americans have never even heard of Jean Moulin. Also Lyon being a Roman town (Lugdunum) There's a Gallo Roman museum explaining the city's oragins. Love the pronunciation! 😉 Thank you!

For the traveller from Paris, and that city’s rather monochrome palette of grey to greyer (with splashes of very intermittent colour to relieve the gloom, for Paris knows that it’s a resolutely northern place, and its buildings reflect those often cloudy skies), the first thing that strikes you about Lyon, 250 miles to the south, are the warm colours. Someone described the city’s overall appearance as like a crate of peaches ripening in the sun and this captures it nicely, as the red roofs and sun-bleached, fading stone more than hint of Le Midi, a hop-skip-and-jump down the Rhone Valley (Vienne? Valence? Montelimar?) It’s no accident that Lyon is almost exactly on the same latitude as Milan and Venice, as there is more than a hint of the Italianate in the ochre walls. Lyon is a lovely open city, with significant elevation on one side - reminiscent of Grenoble - looking east over the rivers divided by Presque Ile, across the rest of town. The most charming bit is the oldest bit, as is always the case in most French (and other countries’) cities. I almost gave myself a double hernia trying to romp up Fourviere Hill, but the pain soon eased when I clocked the majestic views from atop. There are also significant Roman ruins up here that are more extensive than I’d expected; a couple of theatres and other sundry bits and bobs. Least said about the Basilica (a sort of Romanesque/Byzantine mess of a mash-up) itself, the better. The reason to be up here are the views. The best church in Lyon is the main cathedral just down the hill. The rest of the time is best spent just aimlessly wandering. The old working-class district of La Crois-Rousse, is a (slightly gentrified) throwback to Lyon’s industrial past; a kind of self-contained village within the city. Place Bellecour, the city’s main square is a big, pompous, unwieldy thing and resembles nothing so much as a military parade ground. You can imagine Napoleon rallying his troops here on his way back from exile, (even if he never did.) But minor quibbles aside, Lyon can easily cope with 3 days of your life. I still can’t quite decide if its ‘northern’ or ‘southern’, though; I have always personally marked the start of Le Midi on this side of France at Montelimar, but on a midsummer’s day in Lyon, with the cicadas’ electric buzzing filling the air: this could well be the ‘true’ south. But where oh, where, are the shutters?!

I love some of the architecture in the Confluence. Did you shop at the Super Carrefour when you were out there? Also - those buildings with the perforations in the confluence are sensational. Were they influenced by the Jacquard cards? We spent a month in the city, rented an apartment and did a whole bunch of cooking. Some of the open air Marchés like Croix Rousse and St. Antoine are absolutely amazing. We also loved the occasional popup farmers markets featuring producers as far away as Toulouse. Lyon also features some cutting edge contemporary restaurants too. We loved it so much. I can't wait to head back to update our dining we wrote there in the coming year.

I sure did shop at Carrefour! I feel like it's part of any visit to Europe :D I loved the markets that pop up around the city. So much really great regional food for excellent prices. I'd love to go back and spend more time in the city, particularly so I can just eat more of the food!

Oh that's great Maarten. You'll have a wonderful time! I'd say, give yourself a minimum of 3 nights in Lyon. If you can do more, even better, but 3 nights will give you a good amount of time to explore the city.

I'll put that in my itinerary. First, we're going to cycle across France from Bordeaux on the Atlantic to Sete on the Mediterannean along the various canals, then train to Lyon, and then Paris. Any more suggestions? Currently researching wineries to drop into along the route.

Looks a classy city! Will be going in September. Is there anywhere you can recommend? Is there a fashion quarter or Road where all the top fashion shops are like Dior or Chanel are? Not that I will be will buying anything but it still nice to look at the window displays. Do they have a particular department store in the middle?

I'd recommend everything in this video :D For shopping, definitely walk along Rue de la Republique. It's a pedestrian-only area with shops lining the street. For department stores there's Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. Lyon is a wonderful city. You'll have a great time!

Hi Ron. The weather is Lyon in November can be quite cool, but usually doesn't deep below the freezing mark. So i'd dress in layers, with either a good windbreaker on top or a thicker wool-like jacket. And don't forget a good pair of walking shoes :)

I'm considering of visiting FRance this coming August and this is a perfect timing for me to know about this fascinating country. The Basilica de Notre Dame is definitely a thing for me since I'm a church lover, it's so delicate and stunning! Oh my God and did I just see macaroons and cheese?!!! Yaaaayyyyyy!!! I should bring more money tho! haha Is it like sort of an expensive place to stay for a week? Eyeing for a week stay!

You'll have an amazing time! I highly recommend Southern France. A week in Lyon is a really good amount of time. You'll get to see so much! Expensive is relative to where you're coming from. The exchange rate is not friendly for me as a Canadian but I'd budget around 75-130 euros per day if you're staying in a shared hostel dorm room.

Hi Jill! If you’re looking to stay in the old part of the city try the 2nd and 5th arrondissements. If you want to stay in the old style apartments the 1st, 2nd, and 4th are the best bet. 1st presqu’île 2nd lower half of presqu’île 4th les pentes and croix rousse 5th the old town and St. Just Fourviere.

Very good job. Just one tip pronouncing french correctly since you do work in France. The word Fourviere is not pronounced "e-aay" at the end. It is pronounced "e-air". A noun that ends in "e" emphasizes the last consonant. In this case, "r".
