I started collecting movies officially in 2011 and I am still collecting to this day as well as video games, comic books, a few figures which is definitely something I have to get into more of, music CD, books, and records,and model cars.

My personal favorite place to get movies is Goodwill. I still collect mainly DVDs, so I always have a big pile of movies when I walk out of the store

I really like and agree with these tips, I get Blu-Rays for $2 each at my local pawn shop, and I love getting movies I love at that price.

Buying used from local shops is one of the greatest tips to put into practice for collecting movies 👍

All great tips! The first tip is one I live by. I ONLY buy movies that I know I'll watch again and again. I won't buy something just so i can say I have it.
@AustinStPierre

100%! I’ve even started getting rid of movies that I got for that reason that I know I won’t watch again, or at least often enough that it’s worth owning 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@AustinStPierre That's exactly what I started doing 14 years ago when I started collecting. If it's an okay movie but I know I won't watch it again then it's not worth having. I trade mine in at my local CEX and use the store credit to purchase more.

Mostly good tip here... I personally disagree with your sell and trade idea. It could be just me, but I ALWAYS keep everything I buy. Reason being, many times I never know when or if I'm going to want to watch it again. Sometimes I come back to it a year or two later and wind up liking it even more the second time. I will agree with your "buy used" tip, however. I buy about 95% of my movies on eBay. Recently I paid $5 for a second hand blu ray/dvd combo pack of Jurassic World. I kept the blu ray and gave the duplicate dvd to one of my friends. These are just my opinions, of course. Overall, great video!

Appreciate these tips. Movie collecting can get expensive, so these are great tips to know. I personally like a variety of genres, so my collection is all over the place 😁. Been trying to go thrifting more & also finding lots of good deals on FB marketplace. Definitely saves. The hunt is always fun! 😊

Definitely agree! Don't just collect movies for the sake of it or just because the Artwork looks nice. Movies that I've never heard of I either watch a trailer first or actually watch it then purchase it if it's worthy enough. Tbh movies nowadays aren't anyway near as good as 80s and 90s movies and some 70s too. Nowadays it's all special effects without story or substance.

I buy a lot of documentaries and historical footage dvds, and outside of that my rule is that any film I buy will either be one I know and love, or its premise is intriguing for me. Since my local pawn shop sells all of its dvds for $1 and Blu Rays for $3, I can afford to be a little riskier with new additions.

I have decided to not do ebay really anymore unless I am looking for something specific. IT's helped a lot. I appreciate this list. I started my own collection with Red Skeltont, Three stooges VHS's and Civil War DVDs (still have them). My wife and I shop deals. We are going to start the purge soon of our collection. Using the app Icollect, I have noticed we have doubles of stuff. So I am planning on sticking it on Mercari after going to half priced books, and FYE. Thanks for the video, and FYI: We have the same focus of movies and our collection. HAve slightly over 600 here.

It’s cool hearing about where peoples collections started! The longer I collect, the more I rely on buying used and deals. 90% it’s just not worth buying day one for full price. I’ll probably hit 500 titles by the end of the year!

@@AustinStPierre I am a HUGE fan of the DC Animated films. Most I wait a month to buy, unless it is something I am excited about. I also am a fan of multi movie packs. Because not only does it slim my collection down, it gives me movies I wouldn’t necessarily pick up individually
