great video. I threshold all the time and have not tried the Hilights/Shadows adjust. Have you ever used the dodge/burn tool to spot blast in details in a similar fashion? It's fully destructive, but fast.

idk if you're too young to remember this but that high pass frequency separation technique had a chokehold on retouchers for a while there, in the late 00's especially, and everything looked like a blurry mess xD even the random people on myspace used to retouch their pics like that horribly haha

Yes I remember!! Haha. It’s a bit of an outdated technique or at least it’s been majorly improved on but I’m not too well versed in retouching; but I do use high pass for a ton of other things that just understanding the filter has helped me with. Being that the portrait stuff is the easiest way to explain it, I hope it helps people understand it and use it for any/other things they see fit
