What I fricking HATE about the Nitrogen and Hit era episodes... is just how no logic goes into anything. Engines can just go anywhere, like Gordon taking the express literally anywhere but the main line, the awful dialogue that is just degrading, engines roaming around the railway, light engine and the fact they need a 20 Ton steam locomotive to deliver something that could EASILY be transported by another form of vehicle.

4:27 I think I can explain this one. Thomas connected The lion with Syrup because of a very UK specific reference. The most famous brand for Golden syrup in the UK is Lyle's and for over 140 years this has been branded with a dead lion on the tins (It's a biblical reference). Anyhow, if Thomas has ever transported syrup before, or even just seen track side bill bords advertising the stuff, it's most likely had a huge image of a Lion on it. Agreed it is stupid his crew never correct him on this.

Dishonerable mention: The Marvelous Machinery episodes. The machines all go against the series's rules! Thomas was meant to take place in the 1950s, not the future! James A Williams said that all of the machines look like something out of a fantasy sequence and I agree with him. This is what happens when the fantasy sequences become canon!

12:52. Respectfully, I disagree with it being a "disappointing" episode; I'd consider it more "baffling". For me, a "disappointing" episode would be something that _could_ be good, but falls flat for one reason or another (take "The Old Bridge" or "Edward the Very Useful Engine", for example). Something that builds up an expectation, and either drops it or never follows through. I describe this one as "baffling" because, IMO, not a single aspect of the story works from a narrative standpoint, and there's no real way to fix it without completely rethinking it. Even if you replace Edward with James, it doesn't really make sense for him to react so negatively to a crane (if anything, I'd expect James to be _more_ receptive to Rocky, since he was rescued by the breakdown train in his first ever appearance). Not to take away from the rest of the video, though. I can definitely share in your frustration in all these episodes.

Buzz buzz was one of them, I remember never being able to watch any episode with James in as a kid. In no particular order, here are what I think would be a few worthy contenders for a potential part two: 1. *”Thomas and the Stinky Cheese”:* I don’t know why, but the idea of Thomas feeling insecure about pulling a load of limburger cheese as the entire plot of the episode was a concept that I cannot take seriously. 2. *”Time for a Story”:* Aside from being yet another one of those “Thomas learns to be patient, even though he should’ve already learned that by now” episodes, it also has a major plot hole that bothered me, even as a kid. The episode makes a big deal over the fact that Thomas didn’t wait for the books in his trucks to be covered first before taking off, yet later during the climax of the episode, when Thomas goes too fast over the bumpy tracks, the trucks end up completely derailing, rendering that plot point pointless. 3. *”Double Trouble” (not to confuse with the US title of “Thomas, Percy, and the Coal”):* The main conflict of this episode stems from Thomas not wanting to embarrass himself by asking why Sir Topham Hatt (who later turns out to be Topham’s twin brother, Lowham) is acting strange, yet the episode does not give Thomas a reason to feel embarrassed for asking that sort of a question in the first place, making the entire plot feel forced from start to finish. 4. *”Henry’s Magic Box”:* Henry just lacks common sense in this episode. When Sir Topham Hatt tasks Henry with spreading the word about an upcoming Christmas celebration, he instead prioritizes on finding out what happened to the box that he just delivered to the gathering spot. The problem is that it’s way too obvious what happened to the box (I.E.: the workmen simply unloaded the Christmas trees contained inside the box offscreen), making Henry look like an idiot in the process. 5. *”Slippy Sodor”:* Similar to “Thomas and the Stinky Cheese”, the main crux of this episode involves Thomas letting his insecurities get the better of him while he is making a delivery, only this time, his insecurities stem from him donning a goofy funnel, resulting in him accidentally spilling his load of bubble soap whenever another engine laughs at him. This episode, however has a very similar problem to “Up, Up, and Away”, in that the only reason the conflict of the episode has consequences to begin with is because the bubble soap in being transported in an unsafe manner (in other words, if the barrel containing the bubble soap simply had a lid, then Thomas spilling it would’ve never been an issue to begin with), once again, making the conflict feel forced. 6. *”Skarloey the Brave”:* Honestly, this is probably a cliched choice here, but I thought I’d mention it anyway, because it’s basically the narrow gauge equivalent of “Edward Strikes Out” in that is used Skarloey in a plot that is just not tailored to his personality, and the worst part about is that the plot isn’t that bad otherwise. Perhaps if the main character was instead Duncan or Sir Handel, then this episode actually wouldn’t be that bad.

TBF the main problem with The Lion of Sodor is present in pretty much all the HiT and Nitrogen-era episodes- the crew is basically just there to act as the engine's hands, and they have no agency or ability to control them, or even say something when they start acting up. I don't think any of the engine crews even speak in the Nitrogen episodes.

I'm surprised no one (to my knowledge) has rewritten Edward Strikes Out to make Edward in character. My idea; scrap Edward's group think. Have him disagree with Gordon, reminding him he was once new fangled. Gordon says Rocky needs to prove himself. Still have Edwards's trucks not be secure, but not from Edward being careless. Old flatbed (think the old vans in S4 Fish). Could make Rocky forget to tell Edward until after he leaves, he calls out to him but too late. OR left field idea; have Gordon bump them too hard after being assigned a goods train. He leaves the flatbed behind. Edward obviously has his accident, but Harvey is the first responder either because Rocky is busy or Harvey just got there first. Don't let Harvey be on Gordon's line. Thomas and Emily instead pass Edward and Harvey on the open line. Gordon comes the other way, Thomas tries to warn him but Gordon won't listen. He then eventually comes into view of Edward and the pipes but it's too late. He derails. Finally, Rocky arrives and gets to work. Edward says to gordon something along the lines of "Has Rocky proven himself now Gordon?" etc etc moral of the story roll credits. Apologies for the long post.

This might be an unpopular idea, but i think the perfect main character for Edward Strikes Out would be Harvey. Because he would be worried about being replaced by Rocky and becomes a little stubborn when lifting the pipes and also, he would understand that he wouldn't be repleaced, obviously, and that Rocky can't move on his own but is strong and Harvey while not as strong, he can go anywhere he needs to be.
