Like everyone who visits this plane becomes an animal when they do so (Kingdom hearts style), Yes, that means any number of these named creatures could be from a different plane. I hope they don't waste that potential

I think you only transform if you planeswalk there, omen paths don't give transformations. So no bloomburrow natives would transform if they left bloomburrow.

I watched this video cause I recently got back into magic when my friend and I bought out the Bloomburrow packs at our local card shop and I wanted to get more familiar with the set. Anyway the very first pack I opened in years had the fancy alternate art for Mistbreath elder sitting on top and I instantly decided to make a frog deck. In my first game with it I threw down the Mistbreath Elder and the Dour port mage and I did indeed mop my friend with a degenerate strategy involving offspring and Innkeepers talent. It was the one of the most fun games of magic I'd ever played and I fell back in love with the game so hearing your strong words for it really brought that smile back to my face.

I've got a standard simic frog deck that leans hard on Dour Port, Clement, Valley Mightcaller and Sunshower Druid. You would not believe how fast these frogs hop up to 5/5, 6/6, 7/7. Probably my favorite deck I'm playing with rn. They really made frogs fun in Bloomburrow!

So I'm just realizing that Bloomburrow's offspring mechanic (and stuff like coiling rebirth's 1/1 creature copies) is very similar to a LoR card called Condense. And that card was easily a top 50 card in that game. I'm surprised we didn't get a direct analog of it (summon a 1/1 non-legendary copy of a creature you control). Offspring looks like a 9/10 mechanic and I hope we return to bloomburrow soon to expand on it, or hell reuse it in Lorwyn!

I think you're forgetting that the Rottenmouth triggers accumulate. So the ETB hits once, then the first attack hits twice, etc. It's not a potential for 14 damage on first swing, it's a potential for 18 damage. The viper + lavaspur boots to attack can pretty easily happen on turn 4 in standard with Orzhov, and sounds like a problem to me.

I thihk everyone is underselling how powerful effects that grant haste are with viper. Because the triggers are cumulative, getting one turn "ahead" on them with haste is crazy. Instead of 1 stack on the first turn it's 3. Instead of 3 stacks on the second turn it's 6. T5 Aclazotz T6 Viper + haste is potentially 4 cards ripped from a hand, or 12 viper damage if Aclazotz' trigger resolves first and leaves them no cards to pitch. I think black is coming up on a critical mass of discard/hand rip cards that is going to make them just stupid to play against.

I think the reason people aren't so high on Thundertrap Trainer is because it's basically an Augur of Bolas with 1 less toughness, which was good because it was playable in control decks as a blocker with the 3 points of toughness. I'm not sure which decks would ever really be wanting to play Thundertrap at 6 mana, and in that case if they want to play it at 2 mana it's worse than an uncommon that's been around for years.

Dour Port-Mage I just realized works against your opponents exile removal. So even a sunfall lets you draw a card. 2 cards if you have the mana to bounce in response!

All in the scope of best of one standard, my thoughts (this is for me, not a critique of devs opinions) 50: fringe 49: jank but maybe? 48: worse tolarian terror 47: second tier deck, can refill your hand granted you have some artifacts sitting around after a wipe 46: very versatile, possible 1st tier deck 47: second tier deck, can refill your hand granted you have some artifacts sitting around after a wipe 46: very versatile, possible 1st tier deck 43: not great in a vacuum, risky to play it into an existing board - tier 3 deck 42: this will be an every lizard deck, lizard deck looks to be tier 2 most likely, bordering on tier 1 41: bat deck is tier 2/1. Deep cavern bat is was too good, but it can be easy too good in other decks. Probably tier 2. All things considered, most of the subtypes introduced are tier 2 on average, they did a good job balancing then as far as I can tell 41: will disappear after the first 2 weeks 39: had protection, exiles card, decent stats. Tier 1 38: Too much many for a 1/3. Tier 3 unless it sneaks into a legend deck 37: new deluge but worse, tier 2. Will go in budgety control decks 36: two mana 4/4+ with trample that dodges cut down is scary, but the deck that it's in might not be strong enough. Card itself is 0 tier but will see play in tier 2 decks where it will absolutely decimate you with a good start 35: tier 1 35: tier 2, lands are not yet good enough 34: tier 3, but I would love to be proven wrong, seems like an interesting card. Might need more support from lands 32: tier 1 31: tier 2 30: tier 1, you have control over when the opponent draws a cars with this and that can be worked around 29: horrible, why would I want to refill my opponent's hand instead of just wiping the board

Few days before watching this i found Parting Gust for my orzhov standard deck and the more i play it the more busted it is. It pretty much replaces go for the throat plus it can also work as a blinking spell. And then i click on the video and Dev mentions it at the very beggining.

Hey Dev, it's not something I think you've done before but I'd love to see a top X "future proofed" cards list. Like a list of cards that might not be good now, but are just waiting to be broken by a future card that synergizes with them disproportionately well. Like Maha isn't incredible, but it immediately becomes a problem card if Standard gets a good card with a static ability that reduces toughness. Storm splitter is a 4 mana red mythic, but if standard puts out good enough instants to use alongside it's an issue. Not sure exactly what to call these, maybe cards to consider for future set releases?

Eluge is looking better in older formats. I've been speculating for a while that a mono blue Moon style deck was being released piecemeal by last 2-5 sets. I suspect Modern merfolk might play this top end to enable islandwalk and lock mana-greedy decks out of crucial colors. Even outside of Merfolk, Tolarian Terror and Harbinger of Tides alongside Winter Moon seems like a deck worth investigating with the right interaction to support it. I envision a new Blue Moon control honestly.

Mistbreath Elder was amazing in my prerelease. If my opponent couldn’t deal with it by turn 4ish it was too big to kill and I usually had protection for it

Played in the Prerelease last night at a sold out LGS. The two players that got Rottenmouth Viper ended up 3-0. The card is beyond deviating to play against. I ended up 2-1 with Simic, Eluge and Frog ramp. Got blown out of the water against a Golgari with the Viper. Even if you kill it, it’s just so easy to return to the battlefield or hand.

I'd argue Starfall Invocation is better Sunfall as gifting the card eliminates the 2 mana cost of incubating the token Sunfall leaves while giving you back your most important creature currently on the battlefield. I honestly think this is a safety valve card to deal with the ridiculously quick Mice and Rabbit aggro decks.

Patchwork Banner: I do see this card being also played in Standard on Creature based Go Wide/Midrange decks. Another Format i could actually see this being played is in Timeless Creature Decks with Black (since you can actually get this card on as early as Turn 2 with Dark Ritual) since the +1/+1 will be a lifesaver against certain Orc Duo that is infesting the format Ygra, Eater of All: actually, i do see this card being playable in Standard and, specially, Pioneer as a Top end for the both the Insidious Roots Deck (since you can take advantage of all the Plants you can sac in order to pump Ygra) and the Discover Combos that work with Trumpeting Carnosaur (since it's a 5 Mana Card) Eluge, the Shoreless Sea: This can see play as one of the central cards for Mono Blue Tempo in Standard along with Haughty Djinn and Tolarian Terror and as another Top End for Simic/Temur/Bant Landfall in Pioneer. And could go a little further and said this card will absolutely benefit from Nadu in Modern and Legacy Dour Port-Mage: This card literally appeared in Aspiringspike's video about viable cards from Bloomburrow for Modern 2 days ago

I think Rottenmouth Viper read better than it will perform. You have to sacrifice your boardstate for it to work. In commander however... this is a very cheap and sneaky aristocrat wincon piece. Build your boardstate, with a couple payoffs, but no sacrifice outlets on board. The sacrifice being part of the cost means your opponents can't interact with it? even if they counter the Viper, all your drain/ping triggers will still hit the stack.

I think rottenmouth Viper is the coolest card I've seen in years. I want to play it I every possible way and I've been messing with ways to do it ever since you showed it to me. The white token strategy or like a mono black discard where you play bodies that discard and then you don't care if you sacrifice them and very likely they don't have any cards left to kill it. Golgari food, orzhov blink effects, dimir control/cloning or reanimated, I love this card. I LOVE this card. So it's probably bad D:

Valley Flamecaller is probably going to come out on top as long as your deck can halt the life gain of Orzhov bats. Muerra looks really good if you can figure out a burn or tall creature deck, or a synergy bomb to boost your mid-range racoons.The other rare giving infinite scry 1 is pretty bland unless you got a strong draw engine in Azorious, and even then do you win with 13 cards in the hand or unsummon your opponent's creatures for an easy swipe? Abzan frogs are awesome. I feel like we will be playing Control frog tribal with Grolnok as the draw engine. Bats added to Pioneer are probably going to make a control lifegain with Sheoldred that will be meta. Exile their contra life gain permanents and block their own life gain while letting life drain/gain triggers dominate matches. Rabbits going to die to removal and need a plot and a haste to catch opponents offguard.

Dewdrop cure is the perfect card for my silly swarmy uw flyer deck in alchemy i was useing the white chorus for mass recursion and it still probably better with ornithopters around but this can always get me three little dudes🤔

It's probably worth noting that Gev is a Mercenary, which is one of the 5 types that make up Outlaws. Almost all the Lizards in Bloomburrow are Outlaws, so it looks like this set has provided a lot of support for the Rakdos Outlaws archetype that WotC established in OTJ. Also, many of the BLB Lizards either commit crimes (by targeting) or otherwise gain benefit if the enter after an opponent has lost life that turn. I'm not sure that there's anything there just yet, but it does feel like there are some pieces coming together.

I didn't read Mockingbird properly. That's a huge difference. But the one things I don't like about it is other clone cards we've had in the last several years can copy non land permanents. Otherwise it's fantastic

You did miss 1 thing on Rottenmouth, when it attacks it gets another counter so 2 cards or 8 life, 3 cards next turn etc.

I think you misread the rottenmouth viper. It does 4 damage on ETB and 8 on attack or they have to sacrifice 2 things because it’s 4 for each blight counter if I’m reading it right.
