As someone who has spec’ed out watches before, I assure you that there are good crystals that cost $300 wholesale. A simple, quality AR crystal would run like $80 if you had high volume. I think a better criticism would be the cost of bracelet links, or the cost of a leather strap.

I have an Omega Speedmaster Mark II with the sapphire crystal with stainless steel case. I used this watch when I was flying air charters back in the mid 1970s. I still have the watch. Every 5 years or so, I take it to the Omega service rep to have it cleaned and adjusted. They also do the certification on it. Just lately I bought the Bulova Precisionist Lunar watch with the black face. It looks close to the Speedmaster. It has a sweep hand for 1/20 seconds. It can time up to 1 hour. The Speedmaster can time up to 12 hours. I wear the Bulova very often. It is extremely accurate being a quartz watch. I find the quality to be very good. It keeps to about 1 second per month. I tried the new Swatch Speedmaster clone. It is a very cheap build and I was not impressed with it. I would not recommend it unless you simply want to wear a cheap quality quartz watch that looks like the real one.

I really loved this entire list! There is life outside Speedmasters. Sometimes the watch community is too rigid and do not enjoy the enormous variety of alternative models, and brands, in every price range. That video is a great reminder!! Well done TGV!

I completely agree with you Tristano on the Black Bay. The snowflake hand covers the subdials in too many positions to make it a functional chronograph. The Hamilton and the Fortis are big winners in this segment. Thank you for sharing.

Ah, more Speedy vibes already on the channel, very nice. BTW, the friend who accompanied me when I bought my Speedy asked me afterwards how much more expensive a watch would have to be for me to prefer it over the Moonwatch. I had to think about it for a while, but right now there is none. At the moment there is literally no other watch I´d rather have than the Speedmaster, which is of course what a grail watch is all about. That doesn´t mean things can´t change in the future. 😋

Thank you so much for this video. I've been seriously considering the Speedmaster lately thinking it is the missing part of my collection, a Chronograph. Seeing your list made me realize I do have the complete collection. The one you didn't mention (which I am sure there are plenty others out there) is the Tissot Seastar 1,000 Chronograph. Yes it's quarts driven, but I don't have to worry about another costly service, and the Seastar is extremely accurate! Its been one second fast when its time to reset for daylight savings time on or off. 1,000 feet of water resistance, Beautiful dive watch and a Chronograph. I think I'll put the Seamaster on the winder tomorrow and enjoy the Tissot.

I own one of the newer Seiko automatic Chronograph's. The problem with the smaller watches is simply that as you get older you can't see them. That's why I like Invicta chronographs they are much bigger watches with magnifier crystals. I also have many different automatic movements from Val's to ETA to Seiko's and even a few Rhonda r150's in my Invicta's. Great video as always and thanks for sharing. PS. I own maybe 5 large Lava Lights from back in the day.

Last year I was shopping around for a Speedy alternative and I ended up settling on a Yema Speedgraf. Great vintage style chrono running a phenomenal automatic Seiko movement, reminds me of the CK2998 pulsometer Speedys. Only downside is it's a thick fella with a huge domed crystal too - probably wears alot like the new Black Bay Pro. Still, would recommend at the price.

I took a look of one and it was a lovely watch. Bracelet wasn't the best, but the watch itself felt good quality. The date window at 4 really bothered me and put me off. I hate it crammed in there. Really wish they left the date off. Some brands are obsessed with always having a date complication tho Anyway, I bought a pogue instead. Stopping at 3 Seiko in my collection. I've got a willard (probably seiko most iconic diver), the pogue (probably most iconic seiko chrono), and I want an alpinist (probably Seiko most iconic field watch, and can double up as a dress watch)

My favorite chronographs? The Casio Oceanus line. The large second hand ticks normally, but will switch to chronograph mode when engaged. My least favorite part of regular chronos is the second hand staying in place until you use it. Add on top of that titanium cases, tough solar movement, multi-band 6, they are incredible watches!
@mrz80 Жыл бұрын
I was recently gifted an Oceanus. It's rapidly become one of my two or three favorite watches in my collection. What was really cool was pulling it out of the drawer after not having worn it for a couple of weeks, and soon as it got some daylight it reset itself from EDT to EST. Neat feature for an analog watch.

Bought the Seiko Proxpex SBDL085/SSC813 and loved it. This panda dial is highly sought after and there are even some hoarding and price manipulation out there which is a bit uncommon for an affordable chronograph watch, but there should still be sporadic stocks available in authorized dealer, and personally I would rather spend some time to find an AD to buy with MSRP price, than to pay the overhyped online resale price.
