Mas gusto po namin na mag-stay na lang sa isang hotel if 5 days or shorter lang ang trip. Pero ilang beses na rin po kasi kami nagtravel sa Bangkok kaya na-try na rin namin marami sa mga districts.

I see nothing wrong with being a "tourist" especially if you're visiting the place for the first time. After crossing off the "tourist traps" (as you refer to them) from your list, then you can go off the beaten path.
