Kate's death is not sad BECAUSE : If you choose Roman's death (deal option), she won't help you in revenge BUT If you choose Kate's death(revenge) ,Roman will help you to revenge

If you followed the story you will know why she leave Niko, not because she's a bad girl but because Niko proved her that he's not a reliable person even with himself since he decided to work for the person who betrayed him only because of money. While in the revenge ending he promise her that he will always take care of her inspite she was afraid to die in the future because of Niko's lifestyle but what's more sad is that she got convinced by what Niko told her but then she died right after accepting to be with Niko.
