In rain it matters a lot to have tires with some tread left on them. A lot of rain and standing water will also cost more range, so keep that in mind. I once had to take the bus back, because the rain had almost doubled the consumption and I didn't have enough battery left to make it home...

All of them. I live in a place where blue skies often turns into rain or snow in a matter of minutes and I sold my car. I ALLWAYS bring them in to dry after use wet or not.

From riding both Motorcycles and scooters, avoid riding on painted surfaces: lane markers, arrows, safety lines, crosswalks etc. They can be as slippery, if not more, as riding on wet leaves. Decrease lean angle when taking corners. Favor rear brake to avoid slipping out your front wheel.

Thanks for Ramier and Paul! I have ridden many hundreds of miles in the rain on multiple solid tire scooters. I think they are fine if you are an experienced rider. For me it doesn't matter solid or pneumatic because you shouldn't be going very fast around corners regardless of tire choice. I have seen many wipeouts from guys riding hyper scooters in rear wheel drive mode taking corners to quickly. Thinking a pneumatic is going to save you is a false assumption and gives riders a false sense of confidence. In addition, the wet white paint, horribly slick yellow handicap sidewalk ramps, and oil slicks everywhere during rain also negates any additional traction you think you have with pneumatics. The key things to do is understand when your scooter is about to lose traction and keeping your center of gravity as low as possible with bent knees so you can shift your weight better and just be more balanced to begin with. I also think drum brakes are better in the rain as they don't start losing grip like discs. I ride the Mosquito, E-Twow GT, Dualtron Compact, and Inokim Light 2 perfectly fine in the rain. I just sealed up the display.

I ride a Phantom V2, Rain/snow/sun any weather. It has not failed me once. I've been riding since this past spring, and every day for work since I got it. Haven't had a single accident, sometimes it comes down to how you ride, and if you take the right precautions going into it. My thing with rain, is always make sure your brakes are good to go, never want em slipping.

The best tip for riding in the rain is never to ride in the rain. Scooter riders must have good visibility of the pavement 100% of the time. Raindrops on a rider's visor or glasses will prevent this ability to see the pavement with acceptable clarity, and that invites falls, which are quite painful. Riding without eye protection is a serious hazard to the eyes. Don't ride when rain is falling!

Segway ninebot max: mostly driven in the slush and snow up here in Canada. Put on snowboard gear and zip ties on the tires and I can scoot to work in blizzards down to -40 in comfort. Only spun leading to a drop once last winter. Gotta be a lil bit careful with the charge port and it makes a mess if you thaw it out under the desk in the office. At home it has a garage. From what I've seen the motor in the wheels is the most in danger of water damage, as the internal motor isn't waterproof sealed, any scooter riding in any rain will be a slow build up of water over time, rust, then failure inside the motor
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Жыл бұрын
This is one of the reasons we warn against puddles. If the water depth stays lower than the rim, you’re unlikely to get water inside, because the centripetal force is sending the water the other direction. If the edge of the motor gets submerged then you’re at risk for intrusion into the motor. -Paul

I still can’t get my head around the gt1 and gt2 only being ip54 when the f and g series ones from Segway are ipx5. I think companies should be aiming at ip55 or better. hi, in your review for gt2 on the esg website you used this sentence: "The IPX4 water resistance rating, which feels very conservative in comparison, but protects the scooter from light splashes or showers. But with the number of openings on this scooter, we remain a little skeptical about exposing these electric scooters to any form of water." Why is it in top scooters for riding in the rain then? Have you tested it in heavy rain and changed your mind?

Thanks ESG crew! I had been waiting for this list ever since posting on the forum about a this very topic. The only rain tip I can provide is wear a water proof/resistant jacket and maybe bring along some plastic bags to cover your dash screen and buttons when you ride(NOT the brakes, throttle or hand grips). Oh don't forget gloves cuz your fingers can get numb and mess with your "feel" during rainy rides.

no issues so far with my Nami Viper2 Max with the tropical storms here in Australia, have done 30km commutes in full-blown thunderstorms 3 times in the last fortnight, getting hit by lightning was more of a concern than the wet stuff. The flat spot in the throttle does become a bit of an issue in lower speed turns, front does get pretty twitchy. Always towel down my scoot the second i get through the front door, and wait about an hour before charging. Prefer the grip factor of my Chuck Taylors as opposed to workboots in the wet, but the rain isn't too friendly on my Chucks 😬🙄

Hi, since you've had the chance to test ride the KQi3 Max and the Apollo City Pro, which one would you recommend for a good commuter bike that's flatproof tires and good for riding in the rain. They both seem to have those 2 things that's most important to me since i work nights, but as you can see their prices are almost doubled the other. Appreciate your help in advance!! 🙏😊

Amazing video ! I have a Emove Cruiser and the IPX6 is a bit confusing. On their website they say "can ride in light rain" but the definition of IPX6 says "Can resist high water pressure for any angle". One time, I quickly washed my escooter with low pressure sprayed water, just to remove the dirt, and I got water inflitration on the elecric compartment 😅 Luckily, only the blinker relay got affected. After unplugging the power source, I cleaned everything. and let it dry and now working fine. Before to put back everything together, I took care of placing all the electric wires and parts away for the edges of the deck's cover, and in suspension inside the compartment, and added some extra electric tape on expose parts, so it shouldn't be in contact with water if another water damage. I also add some silicone on both extremities of the deck cover, where there are weak spots for water infiltration.

Great video and is it some area all scooter manufacturer can be improve on is IP rating or just wet proofing in general! I kinda disagree with not using dual motors in the rain. I get and have experienced the concerns mentioned in the video but in my experience using dual motor in rain and snow or snowy weather is a breaker. I have ridden this winter with my scooter and when the first snow came I tried rear single motor only and I barely moved forward and the rear was sliding like hell also I sometimes got stuck in the snow with rear wheel only spinning. But turned on dual motor and it felt like the snow was gone almost also I think in slippery conditions dual motors give better stability when going straight compared to the rear felt "loose" when going straight in single motor use. For me it gave me what 4x4 gives a car. But yes you have to be careful with throttle input going out of corners but that is just one negative compared to multiple positives, imo. But also I guess depending on you brake pads but in the wet I noticed the brakes was less effective and not just slightly. Tbh I recommend people using dual motors in snowy conditions. I ride a Vsett 10 and even if it's not rated or not high I have managed almost snowstorm, thunderstorms and normal rainy days plenty of times. I know it's not recommended but I haven't had any choice in those situations but it's still going strong and I am surprised it still works seeing all the negative I read before I bought it. The only problem I have encountered so far is rust and rusty bolts. But I will do a service on the scooter like next month or so to replace rusty bolts and such.
