French horn is, with NO doubt, my fav instrument. The richness and warmth of its sound are unique! Congratz to all US Army Field Band excellent musicians! I'm a BIG fan of y'all.

Fine playing throughout. I came here because I'm writing for woodwind quintet, I come from a more "jazzy" background and I want to make sure I respect the horn and write things that are melodic and feature the horn appropriately. Such a majestic/heroic instrument-- sort of a composer's first "go-to" for a triumphant sound, but also can be rhapsodic and warm. Thanks for this!

Thank you so much. As a French horn player, French horns are constantly underrated and told that it’s really easy, so it’s nice to see people in the comments notice
@thomassicard3733Ай бұрын
It is really easy. If it's not, then you're doing it wrong. "Man! This lick is SO HARD!!!" Wrong. Don't play it so hard. Relax. Find and let the EASY.

Beautiful! I played horn in my youth, 30 years ago, in two youth orchestras… but I only could play Till Eulenspiegel from the pieces here… wow, some have very complicated rhythms and chromatic changes… very good hornists, the quartet was beautiful! Would love to hear the world famous horn solo part of the overture to Der Freischütz with these players! French horn is simply the most awesome classical instrument, the sound can be warm, rich, romantic, attacking, it’s a highlight in especially romantic compositions. Thanks, greetings from Germany 👍

I'm 66. Still haven't gotten anywhere near ya'll. Wish I had joined military band after high school. Graduated from large university. Ruined my life. Dad was high school band director. Learned too late to place mouthpiece on bottom of lower lip too.

So glad the symphonic dances from west side story excerpt made it! I played the viola solo right before, and a good friend of mine played the horn solo a few years back. So much fun, and a beautiful piece.

French Cor Horn! I learn it and pratice it from my 5 years old...!! I have 35 now... I was choice a techncian way of electrician and mecanician to build millitary engines. But i continue to pratice this instrument from so many years ahahahahahah! It's power full and the same time so sweet too... This instrument help me to be delicate, and help me to find force too when i need. I hope all soldiers will be happy with what we build in the tools you can enjoy in your work! Engines, communications, technologies etc... It's one of the most difficult about control of the breath push out and muscles on face (for me). Clarinet? Mastery after 4 years with license... Trumpet...3 years old with license... But his one!!! Omg i still don't have my license!! From all instruments i pratice or i have official license....it's the most difficult!

What is french horn range?
@Lostkin413 Жыл бұрын
The highest the horn is usually written for is C6(F5 in concert pitch), while the lowest I’ve seen written is E2(A1 in concert pitch). These aren’t the ends of our range, we have a couple more notes on either side, but I don’t generally see beyond those pitches.
