Nicely done. Couple points to consider (one fact, one an opinion) - 2:24 the 986 tire pressures are on a sticker inside the fuel filler cap. - 4:15 it is correct that not having the wheel lock tool is a drag. A better solution is to have 5 standard wheel bolts at each corner, and to throw the locking bolts and the tool into your scrap steel bucket.

picked up one of those spare tires for my 987 cayman, the factory Gel and compressor fix is pretty much useless when you're on a Highway on a cold rainy night. everyone should look into picking up a spare tire kit, you can find many available from resellers at very reasonable cost. the only other thing you must know, is if you have a passenger , the wheel you remove is not going to fit in the car, so with a Cayman you can use a tie down to put the wheel under the rear hatch, you will have to drive the rest of your trip with the hatch slightly open , but that beats waiting hours on the side of the road for a rescue

I was fortunate enough to find my 50,000 mile 2002 986 in a location where I had the option of either transporting it back to the Seattle area where I live OR taking 7 days to drive it back up the CA/Oregon/WA coast starting from San Diego on up. (I had some preventative maintenance done immediately after purchase (LN IMS retrofit, RMS, Clutch, spark plugs and a few other things)) I don't regret choosing to drive. Was the only road trip where at the end of each driving day, I felt like I could've just kept going. I had a friend join me to tag long for some company and luckily I had the foresight to suggest we bring soft side bags on the flight down to the car instead of suitcases and we had plenty of room in the trunk/frunk to manage 7 days. Traditional suitcases would've been a bust😂

This was really great. No nonsense and every word mattered. An excellent pre-trip or pre purchase check list. As stated, not a PPI but a heck of a lot better than no inspection if a full blown PPI is not feasible. Very glad he mentioned removing and re torquing the lug nuts. I've had two times where tire shops stripped my threads and a few of the lug nuts would not come off several months later when I went to rotate the tires. They just spun. You need to do at least 3 turns by hand before hitting them with an impact of any sort. And airing up the spare! Giving your spare key to your copilot too. We do all of these things and it does eventually pay off. Just keeping Murphy away LOL.

4:50 All-wheel-drive 996s (so C4, C4S, Turbo, along with the GT cars) have the spare in the floor, and are like the air-cooled cars as you need to inflate the tire once you take it out (they should have a compressor). The rear-wheel-drive 996 Carreras and Boxsters are as you described.

You missed the coolant cap! Notorious for leaking. Is this cap 01? Check. Replace with an 04.

Thanks for this excellent video guys. I would like to take Elise, my 1970 911T Targa, from end-to-end down Route 66 someday and your eight steps are a great starting point. Nathan, in the video you talk about making notes of things as you are doing your inspection--Question: How are you (and anyone else would care to chime in) keeping track of your notes so you can find them later? - Victor

How difficult is it to remove a front bumper? Sounds risky with probably breaking plastic clips that have aged. Great video.

I watch that Mercedes specialist channel who mostly does engine services and rebuilds. They recently had an average mileage AMG, 10 years old and basically all the seals inside the engine were squished flat/on the way out and hoses, plastics had turned brittle. Is it a good idea to put a 981/991 through an engine service replacing seals and all that, and should one go to an independent specialist with that, or is every Porsche dealership capable of going in to the guts of an engine like that? My 981 GTS is only 6 years old now, but I do not intend to sell it in this age of electric cars, so thinking about more serious maintenance like this.

It is a 3.6? Has it had a 996 engine swap?

@movidbod Yes, the car received a "heart transplant" in the form of a 996.2 3.6 liter motor. Makes it just a "little" more fun with 45% more power....

I have a question. I talked to a retailer that told me That 2005 Models boxster don’t have the IMS and Bore scoring issues. It’s a black base model with 97k miles on it and he is asking $17500?
@PorscheClubofAmerica
@PorscheClubofAmerica 2 жыл бұрын
It would be incorrect to say that they don't have the issues. It would be correct to say that a very low percentage of them suffer from these problems.

Good tips, but the LOUD music interludes disrupt the pace. I've noticed that the video sounds are way overdone and distracting. It robs the content.
