If you have kids, go Tennoji Zoo. That underrated zoo has lots of animals including red pandas and polar bear! Free with Amazing Pass.

#9. Join a meetup. This is a rare opportunity to meet and talk to locals in English. Japanese people who participate, love flexing their English speaking skills with foreigners.

Going to add a week to my trip to see Osaka. To see everything I would need a year or more in Japan 😅 Don't have the budget so a month will do 😂

How long would you recommend me to stay in Osaka? I’m going this summer
@WanderlustWellman
@WanderlustWellman Жыл бұрын
Honestly, it really depends on your overall trip in Japan. I would recommend at least 2 full days in Osaka to cover a majority of the stuff on my list. If you are visiting Kyoto or somewhere else that is traditional and with nature, you probably don't have to focus on visiting shrines or temples in Osaka. And if you're visiting Tokyo, I personally wouldn't focus on visiting skyscrapers/getting city views, or I wouldn't focus on parks and gardens as much. For me, what Osaka does amazingly well is present a unique atmosphere in areas like Dotonbori, Shinsekai, Americamura, and Shinsaibashi filled with fun nightlife, food, and entertainment. Other people might want to allocate a full day to visiting Universal Studios nearby which I didn't have the chance to do, but it does seem to be a really fun activity. Enjoy your time in Osaka!

@@WanderlustWellman very informative! I went to Tokyo last February. I had a blast. I’m going back for Osaka now. I’ll stay 2 days in Tokyo then take the bullet train for Osaka. I have 8 days in Japan. I wasn’t considering going to Kyoto but it seems like it’s near Osaka. So maybe 2 days in Tokyo, 3 days in Osaka, 2 days in Kyoto?

There is also Namba Jinja located at 4 Chome-1-3 Bakuromachi, Chuo Ward. This one has a very old camphor tree which survived the Pacific War bombings. If you touch the tree, it's said that you will receive " energy ". I would add Osaka History Museum. The life size displays (especially of part of Naniwa Palace) are really interesting. If you use the stairs instead of elevator you'll get really incredible views of Osaka Castle.

Actually the Tokyo Tower was modeled after the Eiffel Tower. Not the tower in OSAKA.
@WanderlustWellman
@WanderlustWellman Жыл бұрын
While the Tokyo Tower was more directly modeled after the Eiffel Tower (all you have to do is look at them both to tell), the "Tsutenkaku Tower" in Osaka was still inspired/made to look like the Eiffel Tower (actually, it was made to look like the Eiffel Tower on the top and the Arc de Triomphe on the bottom).

curious to hear more about what you mean by “gritty”!
@WanderlustWellman
@WanderlustWellman 8 ай бұрын
So by "gritty" I really mean less polished in some ways - for example, some buildings/structures are slightly older and more weathered. I certainly don't mean that it's dirty or dangerous. It provides a really cool atmosphere and vibe with the retro feeling, neon screens and signs, and so on!

Thanks for this great video. I have been to Japan 3 times and will certainly return, as I love absolutely love it. I have been to Osaka, but so far didnt really "connect" with the city. Your video made me realise that I should probably give the city another chance.

Thanks for watching, that's awesome that you were able to visit Japan 3 times. I love the country as well, it has a very special place in my heart. That's unfortunate that you didn't connect with Osaka, but maybe next time you will. I think it had fewer attractions that interested me than other places in Japan, but I mostly connected based on the feeling I had at night in Dotonbori, Shinsekai, and going to bars, arcades, and various night time entertainment.
