Have you seen the Hellgate Osprey CAM? She is 28 years old ( Oldest in the World, they say ). She had 2 babies with a new mate this year after 5 or 6 years of nothing. Really fun to watch...She is called Iris... for her beautiful markings in her eyes. Thanks for talking about being an AMBASSADOR for wildlife.

I haven’t but I’m going to look that up. Osprey is one of my favorite raptors. 🙏

It's pretty hot here in the PNW ( just over the border from you)...hopefully you are some place cool ...it may be too hot to do any videos or photos. Very Hot where the osprey are in Missoula. Probably over 100 tomorrow.

Great practical, no BS tips from a master. Great that you kept it gear agnostic!

Great tips! On the tip on full manual mode, I would only add that this is for advanced photographers, not for beginners. Mastering full manual mode takes a bit of time and experience for sure. Thank you 😊

That is a fair point and it is indeed a bit unnerving in the beginning. Going full manual was without doubt the best thing I did to increase my keepers. Appreciate your comment.

@@love4wildlife For sure. In my case it took me quite a bit of time ( and frustrations) to understand the relationships of Fstop, shutter speed, aperture & ISO in full manual mode. In particular with zoom lenses. Once I did it, it really makes a difference in many cases. I still use auto in some cases, though. I am Nikon shooter & auto in Nikon is superb in good light.

@@manuelwebe Spot on. And the histogram really becomes your best friend in a hurry.

I appreciate this. I’ve had to change my channel from hiking to photography. When I began to get serious about wildlife/nature photography, I began using manual (except for auto ISO). It was painful at first, but I learned much faster than I would have with other auto priority modes. Your suggestion on manual ISO is a good one. Have you done astrophotography? What are your suggestions there? Thanks. I just subscribed.

Hi Dan. Thanks very much. I'm a big fan of manual mode, but you're right, it does indeed take a little time getting used to. I haven't done much astrophotography but it's definitely on my list.

Yo, Monk ~ Just a fan of nature and cosmic vistas, subbed. (Can't believe the star shots a pal gets from his back yard in NM. You'd think I was seeing Earendel.) Happy trails to both of y'all.
