Hainanese chicken was actually invented by a Chinese Man before the Second World War in the 1920s to 1930s called Wang Yiyuan, although at the time it was just called Chicken Rice. He came from Hainan to Singapore during the Chinese Civil War and sold his rice in the streets, eventually opening a restaurant called 琼林园.

Best BBQ seafood.....Chomp Chomp. Not easy to get to, but worth it Best satay.....Old Airport Road. Pretty close to the Dakota MRT Station (Circle Line) Best chicken rice.....Wee Nam Kee (restaurant, so not a hawker center).....Close to Novena MRT Station (red line) Best laksa.....Sungei Road Laksa. Near Jalan Besar MRT Station (blue line) Best char kuay Teow.....Outram Park Fried Kuay teow in the Hong Lim Food Centre. Near Chinatown MRT Station (blue and purple lines) Best Bak Kuh Teh.....Song Fa Bak Kuh Teh. My favorite outlet is at the Chinatown Point Shopping Center in (not surprisingly) Chinatown Best Pooh pia....Old Long House Pooh pia. Near Lorong 7 in Toa Payoh, Kim Keat Market (go to Toa Payoh MRT and take the 238 directly there) Best to stay away from Newton. Touristy and more expensive than other hawker areas.
I love the hawker food they very good food and cheap they cook in front of you don,t like to go to the restaurant love hawker food any time thank you for sharing very good video .

These 9 hawker centres are no doubt popular, should have above average quality Singapore food. But if you ask a local, most likely they will tell you their favourite hawker centres are the ones in the residential neighbourhood. Few to name; Redhill Hawker Centre, Bedok 85, Chomp Chomp Hawker Centre, Old Airport Road Hawker Centre, Hong Lim Hawker Centre, ABC Hawker Centre etc etc etc. And we are not yet talking about coffeeshops in the HDB void-decks. 😅 So basically the trick is getting your food where the locals stay. Of course thats if you are looking to try local food.

@YellowProductions7 жыл бұрын
Hi Trinh: You best bet for a food court is at the VivoCity shopping center -- that's where you take the train in to Sentosa Island from -- they have a food court (Food Republic) right next to the Sentosa train station. Or if you want a Hawker Centre, there is one across the street from VivoCity -- it's called "Seah Im Food Centre"

i always get a little worried as a singaporean when i see foreigners try out chicken rice. you can eat it how you like, although the chilli and dark soy sauce is vital, and it makes the dish. without it it's quite bland. some good stalls also have a ginger condiment wish is also awesome.
@YellowProductions7 жыл бұрын
+sean harrison I agree with you.. the soy sauce and the chili sauce is what makes the dish! I've ordered Chicken Rice in other places but the chili just isn't right in the US. It doesn't have the same combination of chili and garlic I think.

$26 for a satay set ? It is the prawns which are so expensive. Just eat the satay and forget about the what-so-special grilled prawns. If they say it has to be sold as a set, go to another stall. And if all stalls have conspired to rip you off with this 'rule', go ask the hotel receptionist to direct you to Geylang Serai (Malay community district) and you can get good satay which costs 60 cents per stick and to savour low-price Malay cuisines. For Muslim tourists, you can find Halal Hong Kong Tim Sum there too.
