I bought a Panasonic 2400D about a year ago,, and I love it!. It's exactly what I want in a portable radio. The sound is good though it's "large" speaker, and the larger analog dial is easy to see and use. Nothing fancy, ..it does a basic job very well.

One of my favorite analog radios is the Tecsun R-233.( no DSP) It’s a fantastic little pocket radio. Pics up local, semi-local, and long distance stations very well. And is designed quite well. Is only about $12-$15 dollars.

My favorite is vintage National MW-SW receiver. It uses 2 D-size batteries which last very looooong. Good sensitivity and acceptable selectivity. Cheers from Indonesia

I own a Panasonic RF-P50 and you're right it is a nice little radio to have. i love mine i use it mainly when i loose power in my apartment or bad weather and you need to hide. i got it off the internet for under $15 and they sent me that and a Sony ICF-S10MK2 radio - but i don't know why because i did not ask for it. but it didn't cost me extra so i'm happy :)

Personally for me, i like the Panasonic more than my Sony. but i use it more also. but the Sony is a good radio. I just don't play it as much. and i noticed lately that my Sony has been getting more static interference - and i don't know why. but i'm glad that i have both in case one goes down i have a backup. they both get my seal of approval. @Hoy Sum

I can vouch for the Tivdio Radio. Best sound quality of any portable device I've ever heard. Reception is excellent also.

it looks best to me for all its features, and good to know it gets excellent reception and good sound quality. I have to find one in a store and see if it gets a radio station that most radios don't get, but some do.

@@mtlicq One of my favorite stations changed towers and became one of the worst for reception. With this radio it comes in fuzzy but if you fuss with the antenna you can get it clear. It's definitely worth getting. So worth it that I went on AliExpress and ordered a zip-case for a 2.5" portable hard drive to fit it.

Shortwave broadcasting is dying. The BBC, for instance, has no broadcasting to any country in the Western hemisphere. They assume anyone there can get them via the Internet. That's why, when you evaluate radios with SW coverage, you need to look for SSB reception. With it you can pick up what is interesting on SW, amateur, military and aviation communications. Without SSB features, they'll just quack like Donald Duck.

For HD Radio a portable I recommend is the Sangean HDR-14. Mono speaker but stereo if headphones, earbuds or external speakers are plugged in. It is over all pretty sensitive and very selective which make up for it costing around $80 but you get what you pay for.

I recommend the Sony ICF-SW7600GR It's a digital multiband radio with SSB reception. Made in Japan too. Already discontinued but still available. Uses 4 AA batteries. Very good reception but the sound quality on FM is not that good. There are mods to improve the audio quality though \

You need to tune each radio to the same stations and compare their sensitivity on local, distant and long distance stations, as well as multi-path rejection and report your findings. A radio that only picks up local stations, or has poor selectively and is noisy, is not worth it for my needs.

I've noticed that as technology advances, the more people want to get bsck to basics. AM and FM radio has changed a lot over the last 15 years. TOO MANY COMMERCIALS. The quality of a lot of portable radios have went down the tube. Don't expect them to last as long as the ones made 30 years ago. Good luck.

I need shortwave, preferably SSB.Thats what gets me with people making videos of shortwave radios.If it's a 15 minute video they will spend about all that time tuning Am-Fm then a quick look at shortwave.Chances are you are getting it for shortwave if it's in the radio.

Have one of those and the ICF 38. Both very good radios, the sensitivity of both is surprising, esp. the 10, didn't expect it to be that good. The only things I don't like about them is the 10's tuning is a little tight , it can be difficult to tune stations close to each other. The ICF38 has a tendency to drift a little after listening for a long time, but I consider it to be one of the best sounding portables I've had experience with and is the perfect size.
