TSPA hosted LegitScript for a discussion of common online fraud practices on June 15, 2022.
The Federal Trade Commission reported receiving more than 2.8 million fraud reports from consumers in 2021, totaling more than $5.8 billion lost to frauds and scams - a 70% increase from 2020. These scams increasingly take place on social media and e-commerce platforms because of the broad access to victims and the relative anonymity they offer.
Ukrainian fundraising scams, cryptocurrency and NFT fraud, easy-money scams, and pet adoption fraud are just a few of the recent trends LegitScript has been tracking. In this presentation, LegitScript experts highlight some of the most common and pervasive scams occurring on the internet, explain how these fraudsters operate, and offer useful tips and resources to identify bad actors and remove them from your platform.
