Top Down Fire, my FAVE way to light a fire

been using this method since I was a lad, my elder brother taught me this method he was a clever guy and a bush crafter, sadly he died at 29 years old many years ago, whenever I light a fire I think of him with fond memories of our wild camping trips. this method is the best way without doubt.

Genevieve, this is going to blow your mind: Only today have I heard of the top-down fire. I just bought a Solo Stove (it burns wood), and have read that you pack it full of wood and light it from the top. Whaaat? Newsflash, guys, heat rises! I need my Vaseline cotton ball at the bottom, with a spark from my ferro rod, and then quick hands to add the tinder, then kindling, then bigger wood--you know the drill. I'm so glad I ran across your video, explaining how the tiny embers at the top filter down into the cracks below. There's a whole new world out there, and a new beginning for me!!

I burn in a wood stove and the best part of the top down method is no smoke comes out of the stove due to the heat being close to the flu pipe and creating a draft quicker even when it’s 10 degrees Fahrenheit out.

I switched to this method in my wood stove, but found that it only worked about 90% of the time. Too often, the kindling on top would burn up without spreading down, leaving, literally, a hot mess. So I went back to my Timburn steel/ceramic starter with the creosote-busting liquid. It costs about 80 cents a pop, which is a bummer, but it always works and is supposed to be good for my chimney. Nice video, though.

Love the terminology, turn the fire upside down! Nearly put the caton top! I do this on a much smaller scale for my Pizza oven, in which I follow your cookbook ?;^D

Good job!!!.Very important info. Wranglerstar, who got top You Tube award for best channrl worldwide in 2013 or 4 and who has been outdoorsman and prepper his whole life, just did a video about learning that he's been starting fires wrong his whole life!!!
