Top-down racers on Switch - best and worst RANKED!

Yes, mostly when it's not easy to know if a top down racer is or is not a good game. Some of them are cheap or simple graphics but even though good games

Thanks man. This really helped me narrow it down. I went with MMX, I prefer the fixed camera over the rotating one. It has a demo so I'm checking it out soon.

Great video. Agree so much on Rush Rally Origins. Just such a great game and experience to play. I also seen you mention Super Sprint in another comment, there was a game released on the Switch called Total Arcade Racing which is very like Super Sprint, even with some of the tracks looking the same. Worth picking up and checking out.

Whilst I disagree about ultimate 2d racing which I have sunk many hours into I thank you for introducing me to rush tally origins, I agree this is the best game on this list but I am looking forward to circuit superstars which I might have to pick up on xbox as switch seems to be taking a while to release.

Great vid and great idea for a list pal. I do like Art of Rally, it is a bit barren compared to when I tried it on Xbox via game pass, but that doesn't bother me so much, it's just the game play, so hard to control the car I feel, compared to Rush Rally Origins where that clicked pretty much straight away. P.S. nice seeing my ghost on the RRO clip 😊👍🏻

I don't know about Ultimate Racing 2d, or how it runs on Switch... But the sequel (Ultimate Racing 2d 2) is a great top down racer on mobile phone. Especially the open wheel classes (F1, Indycar, Formula E, Classic F1). It's fun to play, also fun to watch the AI simulation

Why would there even be a graphical downgrade on the switch version of “art of rally”!!???? I was interested in it until I heard about the graphical downgrade and bringing it down from 60 frames to 30 frames! I don’t mind 30 frames but graphics and performance is just bad. Look at Hotshot Racing. It has that modern low poly retro arcade graphics and it looks and runs great. Hotshot Racing should be a Nintendo Switch Exclusive. It’s one of the best modern arcade racers. This art of rally is a shame… I’m also interested in Rush Rally Origins and Circuit Superstars. I love Rush Rally 3 so Rush Rally Origins is a must have. The other option is Circuit Superstars which looks like the 2nd best top down racer on switch. Even more so now that Art of Rally is a complete disaster!! I also have a PS5 but games like this are almost meant for a Nintendo console. I’m not super crazy into top down racing but wanting more racing variety is making me consider and be more open to racing game styles I’m normally not into. Racing games are dying. Especially arcade racing games. Thanks for the tier list. Great video! Thanks!

"Circuit Supestars" is an excellent racing game. The graphics are excellent, and the 'feel' of the cars are good.

That's a great roundup and I generally agree with the tiers. I'd be harsher on Mantis though as its handling model feels like it's based on rear-wheel steering as a way to make the cars drift easily. It's something you can see by nudging the steering when on a straight and noticing that the rear end steps out rather than the front end tucking in. Hopefully the upcoming Circuit Superstars will deliver its potential and finish in the S tier!

Nice! Thanks for the list! Mantis burn was one of the first games I got on the eshop, the game is nice but as you said is so difficult and the career mode is too long repeating the circuits one and again, not a game for everyone. I got rush rally 3 and is a really good game so I see you give rush rally origins a 's'. Also I will get Woden GP when released. Thanks!!

Nice Paul! I’ve loved Art of Rally but to be fair I’m playing on the Series X so great performance. Think I’ll try and grab Mini Motor on sale sometime

Great video and a great list. Yeah, I’d probably rate Art Of Rally up a notch too (and depending on what happens if/when a patch is issued, I might go even higher). I’m playing the game every day with the daily challenge and the more I play it, the more I love it- but still, I do think there’s much that can be done with it to raise it’s graphical performance. I’d like to think that if the Switch can run games like Grid or WRC, then something like Art of Rally shouldn’t be as much of a problem… anyway, we’ll see what the future holds here… Also, Absolute Drift should probably be on this list too, and maybe even some consideration for Virtua Racing as well considering that one of it’s views is close to a top down game (as is Rush Rally 3), just tossing them out there…

Mini Motor X has a song that i don't think a lot of people noticed but it's basically Sonic Adventure 2 version of It Doesn't Matter but with a different arrangement and melody 😂

I've played Rock 'N Racing on the Wii U. Found it to be pretty good once you learn how to control. Beat it. I think it's a good game. Gotcha Racing I played a version for the 3DS... I remember giving up after an hour or so because it was too hard.

even though he ranked Rock N Racing Offroad the worst I would check it out if anyone is looking for pure couch co-op fun. I put this game on the top of the list above any of the other games. On Xbox its 8 PLAYERS!. Everyone is on the screen at the same time and everyone is a different colored vehicle, so keeping track of who you are is not difficult at all. Handling and gameplay is really fun once you get the hang of it. Lots of subtle cues you have to pick up on for each track.

Super Arcade Racing is a superb top down racer for Switch. Definitely worth checking out and playing. Fun tracks, good soundtrack, story driven, has lots of customization, and is just really fun!

Yea have that on PC and personally I wasnt too keen on it - would probably slot in here at "B" for me! I'll give it another look on Switch :)

I noticed that 'Micro Pico Racers' wasn't on the list - which is just as well, since it's terrible. This is not a genre which is easy to get right, it seems.

I just found yesterday by luck the top-down racer that made me fall in love with this perspective: Speed Demons by East Point. I need to play some of these man! Btw, one I quite enjoyed on Switch that wasn't on this video is BlazeRush (got it on sale for like 3€)

Ha! Thats fine - its all about opinions and have no problem with you thinking it should be higher, thats a good thing. I've got it on PC and really like it, I just find it incredibly hard to play on Switch and the slow down doesnt help and the graphics are come one... sh*t are they not? Its just a poor port and I'd hate for people to spend money on it in that state. But if you like it, then thats fab! Its what gaming is all about :)
