This is inspired in Metal Gear Solid for the original Playstation. The voice of the main guy (who is named "Cobra", a *snake*) is a clear parody of Solid Snake some close combat techniques were similar, and that thing that pops out whenever a new weapon shows up, is the same as Metal Gear's. That "controller unplugging" boss fight is based off Psycho Mantis, a boss that required you to use the player 2 controller to win. Also, the bad guy is named "Boss". The main bad guy in Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for the MGX is "Big Boss". Movement is interrupted with radio calls, just like with Metal Gear's codec calls. I noticed for a second the dialogue is interrupted in a sentence, as if someone skipped that line, which you can do by pressing "circle" in the controller.

and yet you didn't pick up on the cardboard box reference?
@BaneDane_JB10 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the knocking on walls to attract the gaurds attention. In the description it says "coooobraaaaaaaaaaa" (simiar to when snake dies and a character yells "Snake respond! Snake! Snak3 Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakeee!) Him breaking the camera is 4th wall breaking (which the series does frequently) At the end of MGS 2 Raiden gets a Katana that functions the same way as in this video. During MGS 3 you get a knife that functions the same way as in this video. Also when you have a human shield gaurds hesitate you shoot you from the front. Finally Boss is dressed as Liquid when he disguises himself as Kaz Miller (I know he's not Big Boss but the similarity is still there)

I think the katana thing everyone is complaining about might have been more of a stylistic choice, making it look more like a videogame and less realistic. I'm sure they could have made it look realer if they wanted, but as it is it looks like it came straight out of a top down shooter arcade game which is exactly what they were going for with this video.
@YuTubrz10 жыл бұрын
***** "Real". Look at any of it, do you think bullets look like they do in this video? Long yellow streaks evenly spread out as they are, even with a shotgun? Or grenades? Regardless of any other examples, I have no reason to doubt Corridor Digital because clearly they're quite capable of making it look real if they want to. Unless they were rushing and just had no time to work on the katana more, I'm just going to assume it was a choice.
@YuTubrz10 жыл бұрын
***** I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree :P I just have faith that Corridor Digital can do better than that if they try haha. Like João said, maybe they just forgot. Whatever the case, it was still a great video!
@talonfx10 жыл бұрын
***** There are so many things that go into making a video, and occasionally we can't afford to devote the time required to make things look as real as they can be. We made it look as good as it could be given all the restraints we had. It's just always slightly disheartening that a hundred cool things appear on screen and the one thing that looked off gets called out. Same with the wigs on Shadow of Mordor. We try our best though, but we don't exactly have a lot of people or budget most of the time.
@YuTubrz10 жыл бұрын
Wren Weichman It was a kick ass video though, no doubt. For whatever reason, people would rather focus on one error than the countless other things you guys did right. Guess you just have to keep on trucking, you guys are doing an amazing job so don't let all the nitpicky people get you down.

Everything about this video defines fantastic and professional, I loved it. Only thing is that at that close of range with a shotgun, there is almost no spread. The spread was so crazy it almost made me angry. Lol. But again, I loved the video, and kudos to the animator (Niko or Sam or both)
@legomailman10 жыл бұрын
It isn't based off real life like nearly all there videos. There videos are based off the specific genre or types of games. Also why does incorrect shotgun spread make you angry? :3

The shotgun was extremely and specifically inspired by video game guns. It was never intended to be particularly realistic. I mean, each blast has 5 streamers haha

I love when a film has cinematography that either ties in or compliments the source material. For example Birdman is shot to look like one long take. This perfectly compliments the story which is a has been film actor transitioning to broadway, a live medium. There are no "shots" or "cuts" in broadway just like how it is meant to look in that film. So here the fact that the top down perspective not only looks really awesome, but also ties into the plot of the video is so great and ingenious.

Some constructive critisism: 1. i loved the "ingame" style with the top view 2. i loved that "to beat the boss you have to "unplug your controller"" typ thing i know from that one other boss i don't know the name anymore. 3. but i didn't like the muzzle flashes. They where a bit to red-orangish. Even for a kind of retro game thing 4. the explosions didn't have enough fire in my opinion, but all in all where really well made 5. the katana-blade really wabbled around short before it hit the wall to stab the guy on the other side 6. also i kinda got the feeling that i've heard that music. But that's not a big problem i guess. But as always: love it! The quality is awesome and the sound also. A tipical corridordigital video like i love them. :D thumbs up ;)

Did no one play Metal Gear Solid for PS1?...Snake = Cobra and Colonel = Cap. Boss is most likely Big Boss aka Naked Snake although he bears resemblance to Liquid Snake. The resemblances are uncanny with the combat, the knocking on the wall at the start to lure the guard, the (what I can only assume is a) silenced socom as the first gun he got and even the hip throw he uses... Oh well.

You know, I kinda hate good guys who kill bad guys who've given up. Especially if the bad guys are only guards or other low level guys. Makes the good guys bad themselfes.
@ScenetheUndead10 жыл бұрын
Yes but most times in anything you turn your back on the guys who give up they try to kill you again.

I'm not complaining or anything but the youtube player shows 1080p60 for me but this clearly isn't 60FPS. Is this a bug? I thought it would only say 1080p if it's not 60FPS? Great video guys :D
@talonfx10 жыл бұрын
It was a bug with the export. We didn't intend for it to be 60fps. Definitely was not shot that way.
@MarkusRessel10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clearing that up. Awesome work, I hope there will be true 48/60FPS videos some time in the future :)
@talonfx10 жыл бұрын
Yeah! Sam and I both are really interested in experimenting with 60fps stuff. Actually, if you click on my channel (this is my personal second channel) you can find a longboarding video I did at 60fps
@chrisv986610 жыл бұрын
Disregard this, I didn't notice the HD settings changed the videos to 60fps now
@MarkusRessel10 жыл бұрын
KZbin allows 60FPS for 1080p as well as 720p since October 29 2014 (last Week).
