Noticed that blinking while look down with head bent downwards is more effective to stimulate tear formation when the eye is dry, even more effective when i also chew something at the same time. idk why but if i just blink with head up i can blink for a long time and the dye remains completely dry whereas the other way i not only get my blinking exercises done but also stimulate the tear glands for some reason. it’s a win win.

I am a retired nurse, now in my 70s. 9 years ago I was diagnosed with chronic blepharitis. The regime every day is flax oil 2000 mg 4times a day. (Major Omega 3) and hot water compresses for 3 minutes. I use a fresh facecloth kept comfortably hot by refreshing every 20to 30 seconds. I keep 14 facecloths in an isolated spot, and dry on a towel bar . These cloths are in their own wicker basket so that they can be washed separately. I have an eye massage as soon as I finish the compress. I rarely use eye drops, not for at least a year.

@@BellaBloomberg Pill! It’s called Efracea or Oracea depending on which part of the world you’re in. I take 40 mg MR. That dose is so low that it has no effect on bacteria or your gut. It just works as an anti inflammatory. But my eyes just feel amazing using it. My symptoms were dry, irritated, slightly swollen eyes. Sometimes people thought I had been crying or hungover. The doxy has made a great difference but I also use a tea tree eye wash twice daily, eye wipes, lubricating drops, antihistamine drops, and ciclosporine drops. I’m going to do IPL and LLLT too. But I’ll take Efracea for the rest of my life. I have no side effects and the studies say it’s extremely safe. Just make sure you get the low dose rather than antibiotic version. Great video! Thank you! Many prescription drugs can cause dry eye. Of course, the chance of needing Rxs as people age increases and those are the people who eventually need cataract surgery. I was just surprised that was not mentioned. Since my doctor told me I could use one dropper a day for both AM and PM doses, that does save half of the cost.

I was diagnosed with "one of the autoimmune disorders" but we really don't know which. Considering I'm allergic to wheat pollen, we're leaning toward a non celiac gluten/wheat sensitivity and also haven't ruled out RA, which runs in my family.. and severe dry eye can be a factor in both. To find out if this affects me I went almost completely wheat free and while it took at least 4-6 weeks for a lot of my symptoms to disappear and my dry eye, while still present, also improved. I often deal with gritty eyes, blurred vision, constantly rubbing my eyes due to the feeling of foreign bodies especially under my upper lids. (I also started increasing my Omega 3 intake - not in capsule form, but because of eating foods higher in omega-3 fatty acids.) Sadly when speaking to my eye doctor about plugs, he stated I didnt need them. He has been pretty aloof about my severe dry eye and I am now looking for someone who takes my eye health more seriously. Awesome video, thank you so much.

I'm at the stage of autologous eye serum drops after 18 mo.of and eye specialist and constant artificial tears,several kinds and cyclosporine drops for the inflammation. Medicare refuses to pay for the blood eye drops where they draw my blood and put them in them in drops after being concentrated at a specialty pharmacy. My doctor has mentioned none of this even after using expensive $2,000 Restasis for 90 ampules which are one time use. Luckily Medicare did pay for those. It did not help either. He never mentioned anything about diet or Omega-3. I use a humidifier and a warm I cover and ointment at night. A mental health doctor gave me hydroxyzine for 5 years insomnia and apparently that drug ruined my eyes! The autologous procedure it is extremely expensive the drops are 125 for five tiny bottles that lasts only 5 weeks, a bottle a week I'm on Medicare .they don't pay hardly anything of all these over the counter drugs, ointments, and definitely not the expensive autologus procedure or the eye drops of the blood eye drops. I just started those two weeks ago and I go back in 4 months so I have to keep using these 8 to 10 times a day which have to be refrigerated. I'm trying anything to keep my eyesight. I'm not even sure what my diagnosis is when I go back in October though you can bet your bottom dollar I will find out! Thank you for all of this information. He never mentioned eyelid massage at all! I did not know about the castor oil but he did tell me about using a humidifier use

Thank you for sharing. Refresh Optive with flax. I will look into that. Is helps the cornea? My dad has cataracts in both eyes. An eye surgeon put the lens in one eye to fix the cataract vision issue but he damaged the cornea so badly during the operation that now my dad needs a cornea transplant and obviously can't risk surgery ln the other eyes. So with the damage to the cornea his vision isn't any better. If there are any cornea drops that help even a little bit, that wouod be amazing. Better to try than do nothing! The eye surgeon ghosted my dad after the botched procedure and refuses to meet with him so my dad has no idea how to mitigate anybody this damage. (He lives in a socialist society so it is very difficult to sue for anything... and we are known for being a nice people country, so my dad even feels bad that he isnt going to be paying the doctor several more thousand dollars for the other eye... like my dad let the doctor down and the doctor is right to ghost him).

I’m really curious about the trigeminal nerve thing, as i was diagnosed with T neuralgia after a traumatic molar extraction. I have a weird niggling behind my nose and along the jaw on that side since, and it’s been two years. Now I’m wondering if my dry eye was also caused by the extraction!😮

I have TN too from a tooth extraction. Have wondered the same thing as I’ve had so many eye problems as well.

I will look into the heat mask and wipes.. I have puffy under eyes and apply a cold compress quite often in the am!

I dried my eyes with the use or benadryl for 2 years to the point of développent cataracts. I truly recommend you stop using antiallergy and use calming Herbal tea ans more sleep to cure your allergy. i lost the allergies but not the cararacts. Good Lucie.

How about low level light therapy? For me, doxycycline 40 mg MR once daily has been excellent.

IPL was a clear 11 for me! Yes, it cost me $2,000 but it was a night and day difference. I use Dr. Price out of Indy, awesome results for all of my eye care needs!

What is a punctal plug???
@DrEyeGuy Жыл бұрын
Hi, it's a small collagen or Silicone plug that is placed into the duct of the eyelid to block tears from draining. I did a video about it here if you want to learn more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opi5kqVmiNJogKM

How can diet help if your dry eye is MGD caused by Accutane?

Hydration to help with that aqueous portion of the tears and an anti-inflammatory to try and help any extra inflammation on the remaining oil glands, eyelids, and surface of the eye.

No time for warm compresses 😢… it is very soothing and comfortable but just no time 😢 Optometrist says try ointment at night, if it affects my vision too much just alternate each eye each night which I find is great advice.

So helpful!! I didn’t know about all of the treatments. I’ve done the eyelid wipes, prescription drops and warm compresses! I’m interested in the IPL and the contacts. Are they both readily available? I live in Michigan and there seems to be no dry specialist nearby 😢

I am interested in the IPL tx. Does it “cure” dry eye? Could I stop using Restasis?

I watched the video & feel some of the methods only stop the worsening of your dry eye, not fix it. So would prefer better clarity of each method of it they actually help fix dry eye or stop it worsening. e.g. how would you rank omega 3 in fixing or stop the worsening of dry eye ?

Why did you change your mind about eye drops. In your video two plus you recommend eye drop I’ve had for awhile and no Treatment so I have severe dry eye now I think eyedrops work at least for me Thanks
@DrEyeGuy Жыл бұрын
I still use eye drops myself and still recommend eye drops. But it's not a treatment that can get to the root cause of dry eyes. I hope that I am able to change my mind about treatments as I practice and new treatments come out.

Similasan eye drops are the best. Eyebright in some of them. I suck up castor oil, colloidal silver up inside for added benefits.
