tbh tariffs also protect local businesses making some industries more profitable to produce at home, creating the jobs within the country alongside. But this process takes years in most cases and there's a risk to create a monopolies in multiple industries. It's like sanctions, but self-inflicted. Only US citizens should decide if they're ok to pay some extra for the domestically made shoes, brandy or tires. Some products are more difficult to replace or produce in large quantities like fertilizers (potash). If you don't have enough - you grow less food = higher price for groceries = less food export = famine somewhere in the world.

The most difficult ones to avoid and buy Canadian will be fruits and vegetables; I'll either have to buy ones from Central/South America, or go to specialized stores that carry products from local farmers (very few stores carry these, and they're very expensive).
