The guards turn as soon as Haldir greets Legolas, since Legolas is a prince
@allenjenkins0612 күн бұрын
People like to say this, and it's fine, but in my mind it's definitely a salute to Theoden, as they are allies and guests in his, the king's, fortress.
@tusharshelkande718312 күн бұрын
@@allenjenkins06 salute to theoden. Eleves are thrice longer than men. Soilders of lothlorien doesn't know who is king of Rohan currently because they are isolated from another kingdoms. I suggest you carefully observe the things. Eleves came before legolas meet them they never salute theoden at that time but when legolas meet there commander haldir ofcourse they salute to legolas because they belongs to same kins and knows legolas is Prince of Mirkwood. Mirkwood eleves mostly silvan eleves and few sindarin eleves. Thranduil and legolas are sindarin eleves but they belongs to royal family. Meanwhile Lothlorien including Noldar, Sindar and Silvan eleves together they called galadhrim. But majority belongs to silvan eleves. Celeborn and Galadriel are lord and lady of lothlorien not king and queen because last king of lothlorien Amroth died in sea near by belfalas so his line is ended then eleves of lothlorien requested celeborn and galadriel become their leader
@allenjenkins0611 күн бұрын
@@tusharshelkande7183 I'm aware of all of that lore. Most of it has no bearing on the scene in the film, unfortunately. The Galdhrim are there to support Rohan, and Men in general, in their fight. Haldir bows to Theoden and delivers what is clearly a prepared message from Elrond (not Galadriel and Celeborn, interestingly; probably for the benefit of the audience and because The Lady of the Wood's reputation doesn't automatically inspire trust). Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli running up on the scene interrupts him briefly, and he greets both Aragorn and Legolas personally (heart touch turned into hug and dope forearm clasp). He then gets back to business and completes the message (with what is perhaps a personal touch) with "We are proud to fight alongside Men once more." His contingent then essentially presents arms to the garrison commander and the one whose overall orders they will be following: the King of Rohan. That's my plain-sense read of the scene.

I'm so glad they did this in the film even though it's not in the books. People unfamiliar with Tolkein's writings often wondered why the Elves were leaving just when Sauron returned, unaware of the hell, the almost extinction, their people had previously gone through fighting evil for all of those centuries. Their support of Rohan was the right thing to do for the film.

I mean the Elves had been through worse than Sauron going back to the First Age against Morgoth & even with Fëanor & the Kinslaying with this scene being a "well it's not just our problem anymore and while we're ready to move on we will not abandon others if we can help it"

the Galadhrim Elven armor looks so elvish and beautiful, not surprised that Peter Jackson and his crew won a total of 17 oscars for the trilogy from the Academy, and one of them is in custome design. They really put their heart , soul and passion into making these armor and weapons.

It was a change from the book...there were no Elves at Helms Deep. But the lore shows that Elves were fighting all across the North against the forces of Sauron. According to books, elves are fighting against a Sauron Army that was send to the north and Dol guldur. In my Opinion, Will be more reasonable, for Elrond to call the Dunedain Rangers of the North. He could build an army with Arnor flag and his Sons, because arwen has two brothers, to lead those Rangers as a gift from Elrond. The two brothers where the only elves that lived in Rivendel that wanted to fight and help Aragorn.

Haldir and his 500 strong regiment are giving up their chance to go to Valinor just to raise the chance of Théoden & the Rohirrim from 0 to 2% at best. @@youtubenightcrawler9571 Ladders and siege towers are a think, they wouldn't need to bring down the walls, just go over them. The orc's could have also starved them out, but they love combat to much and prefer to be overly aggressive. There was also never a guaranty that Gandalf would make it in time, and had it not been for Fangorn consuming the fleeing orcs, they could have regrouped and attacked again a few days later. Side note, taking a few more moments to type things out properly so your easier to understand never hurt anyone.

I knew before going to see the movie on opening night that the elves were going to be involved at Helm's Deep. I thought myself a Tolkien Purist, and yet, Peter Jackson's decision to go this route juast simply WORKED in the movie. The entire auditorium erupted in applause, which I joined in without reservation. Up to that point everything seemed so bleak. So hopeless. The arrival of the Elves served to shine light into the darkness. It wasn't a guarantee of victory, and the biggest fear I had, that they would be these overpowered warriors who would all be decked out in plot armor while winning the day for Men. Yes, they were skilled and disciplined, but they died right alongside Men. Haldir's death and his observation as he was facing his last moments communicated without words the heaviness of the cost. Ultimately, that's what the Elves' involvement in these scenes was: Showing that they were as committed to the cause of opposing The Enemy, but ultimately, justy as in the novel, it was the arrival of Eomer and his Riders that broke the siege.

This doesn't happen in the book; the elves (and dwarves) have war on their own borders, but what a great cinematic moment. When I saw this in the movie theater, the crowd cheered. Just to provide a little background for those who didn't read the books, Elves and men had fought together in the past, especially Aragorn's ancestors, but over the millennia, the vast majority of men had been seduced into Sauron's (and before him, Morgoth's) service, and the elves never forgot.
