Hi, thanks for the video. Any tips for avoiding the occlusion effect? Do you know something about IEMs with built in microphones?

The best thing to do is use room mics. Don’t need anything flash. Just get a simple vocal mic and point it at the crowd. Or try wearing just one ear only.

I appreciated this video. V well done, and very clear. Thanks! Had my first experience with wired in-ear last night, my issues were volume-related coming off a mixing board monitor out. At least I was solo acoustic! lol

While this is the best video I’ve seen I’m still lost lol. I purchased IEMs for two reasons, 1. I am louder than my counter parts during worship and it sounds bad online. 2. I’m singing at a wedding soon. But I don’t know HOW to use them. I got them because I was advised that they would stop me from singing too Loud. I feel overwhelmed with it.

Suggesting to use one in and one out is a bad idea. I can guarantee that the one that is left in will be turned up to damaging levels and can cause hearing damage.

I actually agree with you. Unfortunately for me I’ve become so used to it I find it so hard to stop now. But I do know when I have stuck the other ear in it’s like BOOM! So loud!

Thanks for great advice. Sorry to ask but I need more advice. For practice purposes; Can I cable direct from guitar amp to a small mixer then to the ear buds? I'm thinking about using the following gear; Guitar amp then cable to Behringer Xenyx QX1202 mixer then cable to Behringer belt clip volume control then Shure SE215 ear buds. I like the idea of patching in click track or backing track. I not sure if this signal path is functional. Use regular 1/4" patch cables? Not sure if mixer can handle output directly from guitar amp. Will mixer attenuate extreme amp volume/output?

Can you cable direct from the guitar amp the mixer? Well sort of. You probably can’t directly cable the guitar amp unless it has a DI out option. But if you put a mic in front of the speaker then you can run that mic into a mixer and then the mixer can run to your headphones yes. This is pretty standard behaviour.

@@MattRandallProductions Thanks for the reply. I want to stop using my headphones plugged into amp (too hot, sweaty blah blah...) I can't run guitar amp open with a mic (too loud, neighbors don't like it). That's why I thought of cable out from headphone jack (silences amp) then into mixer (add click track or backing tracks as needed) then plug the ear buds (Shure SE215) into mixer to adjust volume. With this option I can still use my pedal board. A simple Vox amplug is final option. With lacking dynamics and no peddle board this is my next to last option (driving to the park and using a busker rig). Thanks again.

Hmm This isn’t really the point of this video. But why not get an audio interface and run it into a computer instead and run some software?

Very helpful thanks. I still have problems with iem. Do you recommend to mute the drummer If I use a click track?
@MattRandallProductions
@MattRandallProductions 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if I’d mute him but it depends on how tight he plays to the click. If he’s pretty tight then leave him. If he’s sloppy then yeah I’d turn him down a lot and bump up the click.

I keep them Personally. i like to hear the click but i still play to the drummer. i only use the shell mics though with no gates, and the click, and set the click to something that doesnt sound like the shells. like a bleep.

@@MattRandallProductions I recommend them 100% if you don't mind Mono. I run a closed system with a Behringer XR16 and everyone can set their own mix from their phone.

when u mentioned using cheap iems sounding muddy and all of that does the chure se215 count for being muddy because I'm a worship leader at my church and we use the aviom mixer and have about 8 people in the band

Hi Devon. The shure se215 is one of my favourite iems and what I used for a long long time before it broke. It is a super solid starting place. However it is only a single driver and not super clear in the highs. It seems to be tuned to be rather neutral sounding and therefore yes I would have to say it borders on muddyness. My favourite IEM right now is the KZ ZST dual driver set. Check them out here: amzn.to/2GT0ItE These are awesome for the money. In fact they’re awesome fullstop.

Matt Randall I have heard of the zst iems before I was just worried about comfort but so far I am liking the se215 but if they break I do have pro coverage from guitar center
