When adding fresh lemon juice try rolling the lemon on a solid surface, pierce it with the fork then squeeze. It's starting to get chilly here in the Norrtheast US. These seem to be very good comfort recipes for those colder days. I'll give 'em a try.

I know the proble. With trangia, i have a 27. You can get a reducing ring for a gas oven. This fits the trangia perfectly so if cooking it wont wobble. Cost £2.00 from hardware stores. The other way is to make a disc out an alloy saucepan bottom, and drill some holes and slotts in it. It work s as i use coffee pot on mine, its very stable with that. Hope it helps

I see comments about soot. I use medicinal alchol from a pharmacy and sooting is negligable. I can get 75% or 95% abv. Both work fine. The 75% does not burn as hot, which can be good for cooking when you want to do more than just boil water quickly. I think I read that 72% alcohol is about the minimum that burns effectively in a stove.

When the spirit stove only lasts about 12 mins never see any one refill during all this cooking?

The conditions definitely have an effect on the length of burn. On some windy days the burner can run out in less than 10 minutes. On calm, mild days I've had the burner last 20 minutes 👍

One day, someone handed me a cheese and marmite toastie. The idea of it was sacrilege, I love marmite and only butter was a suitable partner on toast up to that point. That day was an eye opener for sure! It wasn't as bad as I imagined but I still prefer plain marmite on buttery toast though. You know when you get a slight burn and immediately butter it so it goes chewy :D All your recipes looked lovely and I must try them all (apart from the cheese and marmite one......... )
@bushcraftdavetrangia2 жыл бұрын
Lol. Truth is I really don't like marmite at all...except with cheese. Glad you like the recipes

Instead of taking butter for the panini, easier to take a couple of satchets of mayonnaise you can pick up from chippie and spread that over the bread , trust me Mayo works great.

I see you cooking on the Trangia stove quite often,is that your favourite stove ?.
@bushcraftdavetrangia2 жыл бұрын
Hi Doug. It's the only stove I've tried. Other seem to limit me when I want to try to cook as normally as I would as home, but the trangia gives me options to use bigger and more diverse pans while out and about. What do you use?

I gave up using a spirit burner in my Trangia 27 - Literally the only way to stop soot covering the entire base of every pot and pan is to use $20 USD per litre perfume grade ethanol. Pretty much every other type of alcohol, whether it's methylated spirits, bio-ethanol, Heet or denatured alcohol, will soot up your cooking gear and gets over everything as you're trying to pack up. Oh, and the wive's tale of adding water to the mix is just that, a wive's tale - it doesn't work whatsoever and it grinds my gears that people are still suggesting to do it in Trangia related videos...
@phililpb6 ай бұрын
you seem to have done so much of the prep work at home you might as well cook it at home and just use the trangia to warm it up

Thank you. You are absolutely right that this would be a much more sensible option. However, I'm challenging myself to see if it is possible to cook meals from scratch on a small cooking stove in the middle of the countryside with fresh ingredients. It doesn't always work and isn't always practical, but it's definitely good fun trying. Thank you for the comment and happy camping/hiking
