Ferrariman601 violent yes! They use a mouth guard to keep from biting their tongue or chipping teeth if they go into tire shake. There is even evidence of brain damage due to tire shake.

I was talking to an old timer who used to race east coast top fuel front engine. He was telling me stories, funny stuff. When they heard that on the west coast they were using parachutes, not to be out done, they went to the army surplus and picked up a chute and spent a few nights mounting it to what thought would be right. First pass, crossing the finish line, the driver pulled the chute. All excited and feeling pretty darn cool being the first the boys went down to get him and asked how it worked? He said he pulled the lever and his eye balls hit his goggles, the car went up about three feet off the ground and slammed back down, the car stopped in it's tracks. They had bought a cargo chute to push jeep and trucks out of airplanes.

Not so, fellow. it is helmet air, I confirmed this with a guy I know who presently crews on a local Texas FC and has driven them as well. That IS a ball valve near her shoulder, and no way are they plumbing fuel through the driver's compartment. The fuel shutoff is at the left knee, and operates a bypass valve at the front of the motor by means of a cable. When left somewhat forward, fuel is being bypassed back to the tank. Full back, the engine gets it all. This is probably alcohol funny.

Being they did not open the body up to make the final adjustments this seems to be alcohol two speed, the valve near her shoulder is air, however what leads me to believe this could be nitro is the fact that the tube does not stick out the window from the can like most alky cars. Either way awesome video would love to know who the driver was and what the setup was along with E.T. and MPH.

No trans in this car, one speed only and a reverser gear. The lever/valve at her left shoulder controls the volume of fuel getting to the engine. During burnout it's at half then it's opened full for the run.

That said, if this might have been nostalgia FC, would be air shifter for 2-speed as used back when. Question - valve at left shoulder is what? Helmet air? See, I don't know it all, and I have buttons on my keyboard to prove it.

Valve at left shoulder is air for helmet. Lever below that on framerail is fuel shutoff. You have a low side you do burnout etc and right before you stage the car you open it fully and take foot completely off clutch pedal and bump in with brake handle.

i noticed you ran the fuel pump all the the way open the whole time, what fuel pump do you have on this car? i helped tune an A/fuel dragster in top alchohol and we ran 2 watermans halfway open till we pre staged then opened them all the way like a top fuel car does.
