Very nice array of high-level judo. Your observation about heavyweights is interesting since it’s happening in wrestling as well. First they dropped the “unlimited” weight to 125kg to force the big boys under a certain weight, which eliminated the very slow biggest athletes. But then these athletes started appearing who were several kilos lighter than 125 and more athletic. Their speed and technique tended to be superior. That stage has now evolved into more athletic big guys but also so big they have to cut weight to get to 125kg. The most dangerous of these are late maturing athletes who were competitive athletes at lower weights, hence developed great technique, but then grew and matured into the weight. I’m biased and still think the middle weights (65-75 kilos) are where you see a superior blend of technique, speed, and power, but the big boys are getting faster and more technical each year, it seems, which is good for combative sports.

i don't think judo will ever remove the unlimited weight rule, but it's good to see more athletic guys throwing massive guys. The women's open weight though... I really struggle to watch that category at times.

I saw only medals blocks and I remember amazing newaza in the bronze match ladies category 63 Van Lieshout against Fazliu and good newaza was in the bronze medal match 70 Butkereit against Scocimaro too. There was very interesting transition to kuzure yoko shiho gatame.

Ijf, just please remove the head diving rule after the Olympics, nobody likes it and it never happens. This is a fighting sport after all.

Feeling more and more ashamed of judo rules. Beautiful movements are now forbidden.

That same side double lapel seoi should be coined after cho guham or illias illiadis , they both kind of made it a thing with illias doing the split hip version and cho guham doing the drop seoi and mixing it with kouchi makkikomi legendary stuff.

Iliadis coined it the Eri seoi Otoshi, which I like as a name, but it’s really destroyed everyone’s understanding of what seoi Otoshi is
@reba16367 ай бұрын
I went from thinking seoi otoshi was a Tai otoshi from a morote seoi nage grip then i did the ijf academy coaching course which classified it as a drop seoi but when I hear commentary on most international tournaments I get even more confused.

Oui de tres beaux Ippons mais aussi des Ippons a l'arrache. Il y a une facheuse orientation vers un style Lutte .

1:06 And that's what happens when you don't train ne waza :(. Guy simply had to roll to avoid the submission, maybe he didn't want to get pinned but still you gotta recognise when you are in such a bad position.
