MK6 DSG w K04 Turbo, IE K04 tune, Turbo back exhaust, intercooler and radiator upgrades, intake and bov. What should I do next? Injectors? Throttle body? LSD for transmission? I was told catch cans ruin this particular motor by Brink Motorsports here in Austin, TX.
@david.m50995 ай бұрын
Depends on the catch can, the ones that delete the pcv with a metal plate are trash and will send as much oil and pressure as possible through your intake and blow out seals, the kits that piggyback off the oem pcv (clean catch can) are the ones that wont hurt your engine. But make sure the can itself has real baffling and not just 1 plate with a couple small holes, but the gains you get from a catch can are pretty negligible and not worth your money.

Craig, I had to stop you at 2:28. As a potential customer, I do not have an unlimited budget, or the facilities (which include a lift of course). I do not believe that fancy airbox will give that much gain on it's own. I'm not about to rip the entire front end of the car to buy an OEM placement IC. The hp/tq curves for stage 2 are very peaky. I don't think that exhaust flows as much as it could; branching out into dual 90 degree bends. I don't know what the purity thing is all about. I'd much rather see how a petrol head like myself can make an efficient machine, capable of actually performing in AutoX or Trackdays without the hype, silliness and over-expense, please. Thanks for trying. BTW, I'm a retired Mechanical Designer and former ASE Technician

@christianshankles89773 жыл бұрын
The stock DSG can already hold a good amount of power, but if you're concerned about that, or just want to upgrade your DSG, get a TCU Tune. That will not only allow the transmission to handle more torque, but you'll also get faster, more aggressive shifts.

@@Captain_Brown_Beard mk6 is definitely a nice ride. Then again I can’t stand automatics as a whole. I mean sure, they have their place in certain cars/ applications but I’m a three pedal guy through and through. The e34 540/6 with a ltw flywheel, decent clutch and a 3.15lsd which you can get from the early e32 750 (need to swap pinion flanges,) really makes them fun to drive.

Can anyone argue that you don't really need a catch can on this platform? I don't have one and I know of a buddy who doesn't on his K04. They're rather pricey at $400
@ecstuning3 жыл бұрын
i mean... you can not run a catch can, but you will sacrifice a percentage of the total possible clean air you can deliver to your engine since the PCV system will send unfiltered crankcase pressure through the intake, which includes oil and carbon particulate. that's what gets built up on intake valves in DIT engines since there is no fuel spraying across the valve to clean it. Basically, yes, you can get away with no catch can, but you'll end up paying for it in the long run with carbon cleaning.
@stepsidelandscapinglawnsol30933 жыл бұрын
@@ecstuning ahhh, gotcha. Explains a lot! Are catch cans essentially all the same, then? Im sure the fancy braided hoses are going to bring the price up! I'd go for an ECS one as Im happy with my stage 2 ECS with SMF combo.

@@stepsidelandscapinglawnsol3093 good question! No - not all catch cans are created equally. Think most Mk6 fans know a downpipe is all thats really needed, which would make that alone the 'bang for your buck' mod and a catback more 'cosmetic'

that's fair - to clarify bang for your buck, you would get all the benefits of actually improving power/exhaust flow while having something nice, shiny, and ear-pleasing all at once. plus, its cheaper to do the whole system at once than it is to do it in pieces.
