In pnp it's good, but honestly I think it's very overrated in the game. If Action Surge is all you're getting out of Fighter, I think most builds get more out of doing something else. e.g. Monk9/Thief3 imo is better than Monk6/Thief3/Fighter3

Wild magic sorcerer is a blast. Love that that I can embrace the chaos without affecting other players at my table. My favourite occurrence was when I was tracking down some killers in act 3. I found them and had a fight in the streets. Civilians cowering, guards nowhere to be seen. Cast a spell that went wild. Produced spiky terrain. Hurt me, but also the enemies. Anyways, wrapped up the fight and was about to get on with things. However... I couldn't cancel the effect. So the civilians went about their everyday and WALKED THROUGH THE SPIKES AND DIED! So some guards came running in (where they were in all the previous fighting remains unknown). And some vigilante civilians decided to be heroes and punch the level 11 party. So anyways... Had to kill three guards and two civilians as well. Kind of took the steam out of being a hero that day lol.

One great way to play monk is to go 8 STR/16 DEX/13 CON/8 INT/17 WIS/8 CHA, then farm hill giant strength with underdark vendors. Take tavern brawler and increase your CON, use Ethel's hair on WIS, then take +2 to WIS and use those lovely boots that let you add WIS to damage rolls as well. You can also use cloud giant strength potions later in game! At the end, you have AMAZING unarmored defense without sacrificing any damage! Currently hitting 90+ DMG flurry of blows and have around 12 ATKs per round. Absolutely insane! BTW love the content!

Yep the elixirs have all strength based characters dump strength by ~level 10 since they are cheap and allow the strength component of a character to be satisfied easily without even occupying a slot; that is one solution to the mad problem but really only works because BG3 showers you in strong magic items. The dex gloves are also similar but in general I tend to use them on mages for AC instead of actual dex based characters since the initiative and AC are really nice.

I believe you can also get armor of Agathys from draconic sorc if you don’t want the warlock levels. It lets you keep your spellslot progression going but you don’t get the infinite mage armors. If you do go the mage armor route it works on find familiar summons so remember to use it on them.

Still go two levels in Sorc like Colby did for Lock in the video. 2nd level Scor gets Twinned Spell. Can twin abjuration spells for more ward or hold person/pick your favorite. Edit; you need to pick white dragon for the draconic lineage to get Armor of Agathys.

@@Byssbod Protection from evil and good is the first to jump to mind, Shield of Faith too. But that's only in legit d&d to be fair. I think I'd really enjoy Divine Soul as a subclass option for BG3. Banishment comes to mind. Take two mobs out of the fight as well as get ward built real quick. Counter spell is a situationally useful one. You can twin counter spell so you can counter a counter spell on your counter spell. To be clear I mean; it's the 1st monster's turn they cast fire ball, you cast counter spell (twinned) then the 2nd monster uses counter spell, you use the second counter spell (from the twinned spell metamagic) to stop the 2nd monster counter spelling your first counter spell. Thus allowing your first counter spell to successfully stop the fireball of monster 1. Edit; then again this is coming from d&d too i suppose. . . I haven't made much progress in BG3. My PC is kinda a paper weight rn. Only just started up on PS5. So I haven't hit lvl 5 yet to test the whole counter spelling thing.

To anyone wondering, 2 levels of draconic sorcerer and picking white dragon also gives you armor of agathys, you lose the option of dumping str for cha and doing Eldritch blast though. There is a robe in act 2 that gives you the ability to cast armor of agathys as a 3rd level spell. Ice bite robe. Those are some options if you would rather try and go full or near full wizard.

Even better, if you go 3 warlock you can get pact blade and ur cha is uswd for weapon strikes, so you can dump str and dex and ur cha spells can work, as well as ur wizard spells. But....that also means you can get sorc spells too. So you keep ur high level spell slota which u can use for wizard spells you can copy. And only lose your to level 6 slot from the 2level warlock dip, which is totallt worth, and have 4 different spell types: cleric/wiz/warlock/sorc AND you could even combine that paladin build with this with effextive cha with blade pact. Esp since this build doesnt 'require' feats. You could easily multiclass all of that. Getting like 3cleric/3warlock/3wiz/3sorc. Or 1cleric 2bard. *2bard gets u song of short rest

@@timfriday9106 How about keeping Wisdom and Charisma High? Cleric 5 / Wizard 2 / Warlock 5. You have a double attack from pack weapon, and all these War Priest bonus attack charges. Tanky and DPS at the same time.

@timfriday9106 Жыл бұрын
@@arubaga well, u want more wiz levels for arcane mark dmg reduction, the whole point of the build. 1 clericnisnjist for heavy armor, and its atill a spell casting class sonyou get the level towards spell slots. Warlocknuses different slots so u wanna keep ur warlock levels low, unless all u want is ther interaction n dont care abt spells, then u would trade our cleric for fighter so ya go 5warlock/5fighter/2wiz. U get the extra attack from pact and fighter(they stack) plus action surge. U lose spells but u gain more pure dps. Or instead u can go 2 fighter and 3 paladin for action surge and divine smite, but u lose a feat. Personally, 7fighter and 5warlock is the best imo. You get an extra feat from fighter 7 and eldritch knight gets a crazy good ability at 7. Amd you can go the polearm master/greater weapon/heavy armor master.

Love your builds man, now I can't stop creating silly builds :D Here's my favorite so far, "The angry monkey" or "Nanomachines,son" if you played Metal gear rising ahah Sorry my english is not so good Main stats : Strength as much as you can for tavern brawler. Wisdom secondary for the monk passive damage and AC The rest is up to you (though you can't have constit AC boost from barbarian AND wisdom AC boost from monk at the same time, it will pick the higher stat sadly) Classes : Monk - Way of the Open Hand lvl 8 = main source of damage - 1st feat : tavern brawler.. 2nd feat : whatever you like Fighter lvl 2 = That sweet action surge baby Barbarian lvl 2 = rage for defensive and offensive capabillity (none of the open hand attacks are considered "spells" so raging works wonders) Equip as much items that can add damage to your bare hands attack. Haste by an ally. (offensive and defensive capabillity and that sweet 2nd action, also the bonus movement is usefull to chain multiple ennemies in the same turn) Wholeness of Body, rage, action surge, bonus attacks etc... it's just poundtown Hokuto No Ken style. Did not find every item I need and I'm already 16-30 dmg for each hit I THINK you can get up to 10 attacks on the first turn if you combo correctly and if you have haste (higly recommended) probably more but honnestly I just created this from scratch it's not perfected yet. Use of potions is highly recomended too obviously.

I really enjoyed a 2 fighter / 10 sword bard run. Great skills, great damage and 100% crowd control spells due to itemization. A 100% hypnotic pattern really trivialized some of the hardest encounters in the end game. There is a ring that lets you cast enchantment and illusion spells as a bonus action after a weapon hit, and a hat that stacks 2 spell DC / hit chance up to 7 per weapon hit.

Can you elaborate that a bit? So I don't have to take my clothes off and on to get the arcane ward up? Or it's not possible with the sorc levels? Just a bit confused. XD
@mattgopack7395
@mattgopack7395 Жыл бұрын
@joydipnayek8070 You wouldn't have access to that invocation, so no infinite stacking of ward points (you'd need to use spell slots to refill it). But you'd get armor of agathys without needing warlock levels. So if doing a more dexterous one, you'd have decent AC without needing any other dip (Sorc 1 for the unarmored ac, con saves, and armor of agathys, then wizard the rest of the way)
@ProbeAway
@ProbeAway Жыл бұрын
Also, just taking one level of sorc instead means (a) at level 11 you'll get a 6th level spell slot and (b) at level 12 you'll reach wizard 10. That gives you improved arcane ward, which adds your wizard level to your arcane ward stacks after every short rest. Personally I think I prefer that to the fiddliness of cheesing mage armour between fights Edit: I just realised that it's easy to get a scroll of Armour of Agathys that Wizards can learn, so you could just go 1 Cleric/11 Wizard to learn 6th level spells

For all the non concentration spells that last until long rest: You can make buffing Hirlings, swap a party member out, buff everyone you'll be taking with you while in camp (even the member you swapped out for the hirling), then when you're done, swap the hireling back out, and you'll retain all those buffs, without having to take those spells on an active party member. Also makes it so no one is taking extra damage with warding bond since they wouldn't be in the party.

I ran the Wizard Tank build, except in my run I went without the level in Cleric. As you mentioned in the video, the amount of damage reduction/nullification you can get on your char is so over the top that having a high AC actually doesn't matter as much. So I went around rocking robes instead of armor, and still ended up tanking perfectly well. Better, arguably, since enemies tend to prioritize the targets with the lowest AC. Plus it saved me tons of time, not having to constantly take off and put on my armor whenever I wanted to top off my Abjuration Ward.

Something to think about for wearing armor as a monk in bg3, at least for the early game: the way monk features work in bg3, pretty much the only feature you lose if you wear armor (if you are proficient, obviously, probably from another class) is your extra movement. So doing something like a barbarian or fighter dip to get armor is absolutely useful

Your builds have taught me that I needed to focus less on what is the most "optimized" and what is just the most fun. BG3 is challenging, but just about anything works on the normal difficulty. My Warlock/Way of Shadow is an absolute hoot. I can use my Ki to drop down area of effect Darkness, Shadow Step into it, use Stunning Strike to debilitate some foes, and then start blasting. I need to play with multiclass mechanics a bit more when it comes to saving throw proficiencies and spellcasting ability modifiers to "optimize" it, but I just love how it feels and plays.

@@andrewcastanon5313 I see why his channel got such a big boost from BG3 players. I really like that approach.

having the 2 channel divinity charges, on a short rest, is what, imo makes the light cleric so strong. With a short rest-focused party such as with a bard/lock, that's definitely the way to go.

There are also a lot of fire artifacts, of course, and you could be Demon Liu Kang or something. You mention that Resistance stacks with damage reduction, but I think it's extra important to note that the order of operations of resistance and damage reduction is different in BG3 than D&D. Resistance applies FIRST, and then you get the reduction, so it's way better than it would be on tabletop!

The Pugilist (38:14) is almost exactly how I built a monk after I read the tavern brawler feat. Of note (thank you combat log): (44:40): The DC for way of the open hand is actually STR or DEX if it's higher (unlike four elements which uses WIS), so stun(CON save) has the same dc as topple(DEX save) and push(STR save). stagger is automatically applied if the attack hits. (48:34): Since WIS isn't used for save DC on open hand, the barb dip may be a better option than it seems, as its unarmored defense and speed uses DEX+CON instead of DEX+WIS, and allows for (and gives proficiency in) shields. Reckless attack does not work without a weapon though, but at level 6 (+3 proficiency) you already have a +13 to hit on your unarmed attacks with 20 STR.

For ShadowHeart build ideas ... I'd recommend people try 1 tempest Cleric/ 11 open hand Monk with Tavern Brawler. It's a really strong, REALLY fun build that lets you use Heavy Gear + shield and gives you a very cool reaction to being hit in melee that you prob wouldn't use too often if you ran with a caster tempest. Also ... LITE SPOILERS Following! I feel like it's lore wise very fitting for her. The Dark Justiciar like enemies, in EVERY encounter I've had with them, seem to love running up and punching/ stabbing IIRC. They don't seem Cleric like at all. For my NEW play through, I'm gonna look into mixing her half and half with a different melee that could make better use of her lore weapons. Because regardless of which path she goes down, she seems to get melee weapons that she wont fully use if she's a caster focused party member (Yeah, one of the weapons gives you Moon Beam iirc. But I don't see that spell being better than concentrating on legit anything else a higher level Cleric can be concentrating on in battle). Also, I like how poetic Tempest Cleric is. It matches her. Storms can be Dark, but they have flashes of brilliant light in them.

@@iopohable Hmm? If you're just looking at one aspect of her personality, then that's on you and as they say "you do you, Boo Boo". The beauty of them making a well written 3 Dimensional character is that you have a lot of ways you can read their personas. I could easily say that "Cleric" is the only aspect of her that I would keep unconditionally, as I could find something to support every single one of the Cleric sub-classes. When you start the game, she knows F-all about herself other than whats been programmed into her. Had her memories taken away. Been programmed by this cult for like 40 years. Regardless of with path you take her, she comes out the other end a different person. Hell, I could make a case for her being a Nature Cleric given what she says for one of the paths when asked "What do you want to do after all this is over?". Like I said, if you think there's nothing more to the character than her Shar programming/ brainwashing, then you do you. She undoubtedly has a strong divine connection, how one reads it beyond that is free real estate to me, Jim.

Gear Spoilers: I know you said in this video that you don't like including gear choices because of the near limitless possibilities. That said, in the Grymforge area, you find a helmet that gives the enemy the reeling condition if they miss an attack on you, and the medium armor you can craft gives reeling if the enemy lands an attack on you. You can just sprint around the battlefield with your light cleric, intentionally proccing opportunity attacks from everyone, and they will automatically get the reeling condition regardless if they attack hits or misses

awesome idea for a character like the abjuration tank who is trying to get hit. with the light cleric build you are usually popping your highest level spell slot on your spirit guardians. past a certain level, if you get critted, you are going to lose that spell. wasting your best slot, your action reapplying the spell that your entire build depends upon, and also being useless for the end of the round.

Dropping this here for Colby to tell us how to make it even better! Spore Druid is busted in BG3 due to Summonsnot having Concentration. You want at least 9 levels of Druid, 10 levels if you want Spreading Spores (and you do since it lands a Concentration free hazard). Rest of your levels go Fighter for Armor and Weapon Profs and AS. We are Duel Wielding Hand Crossbows for two attacks a turn, which in BG3 benefit from your Symbiotic Entity (Don't forget that Halo of Spore is a reaction on your turn so it's just more damage!) At 4th level you take Sharpshooter and at 8th level ASI. There are also two ways later in the game that give you stat bumps so don't stress about missing a Feat. You will get Animate Dead and Fungal Infestation from Spore Druid. This gives you two Undead you can Summon. You will also take Summon Woodland Being, which itself can Summon a Wood Woad. Take Summon Lesser Elemental and Summon Elemental. At the start of the day you Cast Woodland, Wood Woad, Lesser Ele and Ele. That's 4 Summons. Kill some stuff and use Fungal Infestation and Animate Dead. At Higher Levels you can make a Flying Ghoul. Now you have 6 Summon creatures, 40 Temp hit points, +10 to ranged damage (no need to be in the fray with your minions) and can be Concentrating on a powerful spell like Contagion, Confusion, Cloudkill, ext. Add a Cleric in the mix and with Hero's Feast and Aid all of those Summons could get around +40 Hit Points. Enjoy your army. Potential to take Ranger instead of Fighter for Find Familiar to Summon a Raven to Blind and still get Archery Fighting Style and your 7th level spell slot.

Pro warding bond tip (probably a bug). Gale heals himself when he sits in your camp, so re-specing him to cleric for warding bond, making him cast warding bond on you, and dismissing him so he sits in camp should give you permanent warding bond without having to worry about the health of your companion. It might be patched as I write this, but I saw this in a stream not too long ago.

On the Wizard Tank (Also one of my favorite BG3 builds), I highly recommend replacing the two levels of Warlock with two levels of Sorcerer! Starting Sorcerer gives us Con Proficiency and White Dragon Ancestory gives us the Armor of Agathis too! Going War Cleric later will still give us all the armor and martial profiencies even if we don't start with it. More importantly, we are now a fullcaster at every level, so this also means at level 11 we get our 6th Level spell slot! Assuming we get the appropriate spell scrolls, this means our Wizard gets access to his spells at the same rate as if he were monoclassed. Very spicy! We won't have the Armor of Shadows invocation for guaranteed max arcane ward, but honestly it's not hard to keep the ward topped off with spells like Glyph of Warding, Counterspell, Armor of Agathis, etc. Plus, with two levels of Sorc, we can crush our less used 1st and 2nd level spell slots into sorcery points to either twin our powerful control spells (and haste!) Or to transform them into the more impactful higher level spell slots. 1st level spell slots are especially devalued since the Shield spell doesn't give us Arcane Ward stacks currently (probably a bug) and is otherwise a hindrance to our reflection damage output.

For the wizard tank, we can get psuedo taunt somewhere else then fighter :) IT IS BARBARIAN TIME Armor of Agathyst and Fire Shield are not concentration, meaning you can have them during rage. 3 levels of barbarian gives you reckless attack and bear heart gives your resistance to all damage. (excluding psychic) This will be instead of the cleric level. Also reckless attack lets the enemies hit you easier for all the return damage, so no more misses :) Just make sure to pick up one of the items that makes you immune to crits and you should be good to go and there is also a staff that is very nice to get called mourning frost, you can get it in act 1. Also for the people that don't want to do the "cheesy" mage armour strat with warlock for this, you can do 1 level white draconic sorcerer instead to get armor of agathyst.
