I do like Vanwork work, seems good quality. However one of the main reasons we ended up going for a California over a convert was that when the roof was down sitting in the back is tight and I found myself pinched over. I doe look as if the same rear headroom might be an issue.

It never ceases to amaze me. 57k for a small van with cabinets looking like they came straight out of a 1980s Westfalia, a basic pop top and harsh blue ambient ligthing. 20-year olds with some time on their hands and basic sense of aesthetics make things looking so much better than this with a fraction of resources these companies have.

Ok thanks. I'm about to purchase my first campervan! I have no idea which is best but I've always know VW is quality and the history. So looking around I couldn't understand the price spectrum. The range is £20k to £65k+. Its a big difference and to someone with no experience, it's seems like the VWT6 conversion companies are adding alot of 'value'. But because there are so many people that are doing it "conversions" (they must buy the same kit from the same wholesalers/because you can barely tell the differences between them ) after they leave the showrooms. I've seem some conversion retailers on ebay selling the same thing for £3.5k. This is reason VW can ask £75k+ for a California. And to be honest I would probably say it's worth it, especially when you think about the the price of a aftermarket "conversion". At Least I know what I'm getting and it's been well thought out and have the most up-to-date technology and interior.

@@SuperiorLondon Just to be clear, my original comment was specifically about the aesthetics you get for the price. Vanworx seems to have pretty solid builds (I have never driven one though so I don't know it for sure). Regarding the quality and history, I understand why the VW brand is appealing to potential customers, but remember that at the end of the day you're not buying a heritage but a piece of machinery and the image of VW's quality has faded a lot in the recent years. I've just spent three weeks in Norway in a converted Vauxhall Vivaro/Renault Trafic. The total cost (lease + conversion) was 33 654 GBP. That's less than half a price of Cali. It has a two burner stove, 100l fresh water tank (california: 30l), two solar panels (cali: none), a huge aux battery (never needed to use the power at the campground), a (heated!) external shower, a bed big enough to fit 3 grown ups in case of emergency (checked it) and enough storage space to fit an inflatable kayak and supplies for 3 people for three weeks. I've seen countless Californias, usually with A LOT of stuff piled inside the car and with additional storage outside of it. They have their issues (breaking cabinet door, rust on the pop-top subframe). So if you know why people buy them, please tell me ;) As you've already noticed, the (VW) conversion companies often only assemble a set of accessories available on the market. There isn'tmuch variety in interior layout or functionality. The devil is in the details, especially in the quality of the electrical installations and plumbing. Find a conversion company that does those two things well and is within your budget and go for it.

We bought a Vanworx Slipper as Cali was too drab and bland plus sliding door on wrong side, too little water capacity plus various other issues. With Vanworx as you say, you select and spec all yourself. BBS wheels B14 suspension, 45 litre underbody water tank, hot n cold running water, shower, the list goes on. Quality is second to none!

Nice van, great review. Now for the real world, would you ever sleep in your kitchen? You know when you go and get a Mac Donald’s or KFC in your car, then go to get in your car the following morning and it stinks of stale food? Yep just one season of proper cooking in your van and it will smell like a kebab shop, next up is the sink, I guarantee you will spill water inside your van, which in turn will eventually cause you issues! Now the pop top, trust me most campsites are often rowdy places, the pop top allows that noise in, keep your tin top if you don’t need the extra bunk, which is also a pain when your kids need a wee in the night and you all have to wake up to help them down. So what’s the answer ? An awning and camping set up, all stores nicely in the van, with a little pull out table from the rear of the van for your cooking bits when only going on short trips where it’s to much hassle to put up the awning. Trust me when you spend Upton £60k on a stunning van you don’t want it ruined by fat splashes, food smells or mould from water spills! Your Welcome 😉

I don't like the lack of storage! The cupboard and wardrobe doors look very small! Handballing a plastic water bottle in and out is just criminal at that price! Should have a onboard water tank like a California! The van looks very plane! It might have 20in wheels but that suspension doesn't look lowered? Curtains??? What about proper vanshades window pods? Would love to see that van up close to see if the finish quality is on point! Thats the one thing you just cant really tell without getting your hands on it! The plastic bottle suits a lot of people. Some don’t like the maintenance of a on board water tank. Don’t know why everyone likes van shades. Look cheap and not a nice finish

@@shabba168 i have a onboard water tank and the maintenance to keep it clean is minimal! Just dont leave water in it when not in use is the main thing! Vanshades dont look cheap! This is a 50k plus van with a plastic water bottle and curtains that will let all the heat out?

davo 1519 some people don’t want to clean the filters flush tank etc. Curtains are just as insulated as vanshade. When fitted to factory windows they don’t look good. They stick out really far. Then has to be carpeted. Not a fan of vanshades

A Highline 150 DSG Slipper starts at 52k without extras on the van or the interior - which would you guys pick, this or a Cali? What's that rotary control to left of the 7-speed DSG lever? They look nice but Volksliesure conversions make better use of the space, have movable rear seats, more accessible draws and cupboards etc. vW California’s are a bit bland, have all sorts of creaks and groans when driving and are less customisable. All these T6 conversions are expensive though . Ours, with Auto , 4 wheel drive and 204BHP was over £60K!

Always loved your videos, but I think lately you're over glorifying everything that you review. I understand you might be sponsored but I think people like your videos to get your opinions on everything campervans based on your extensive experience with the California (and of course for your great personalities). So it has been less enjoyable when every time you touch a cupboard door you say loads of storage here, let's check out the size of the bed...etc. basically everything's perfect) without comparison with the Cali or being a little bit critical on the thing you are assessing, which you used to do in the older videos. Sam 1308 , I'm the main driver of my van but recently I wasn't well so my husband drove and I sat in the rear seat. It was fantastic. Way better than I had imagined.i had my feet elevated,great views out the windows and so much cool air I opened the sleeping nag and dozed on n off. I'll have to learn how to adjust the rear aircon for others.

Not convinced by this conversion. Lots of cupboards, but most are awkward or not easily accessible. And what there is appear to be taken up with ‘stuff’ such as water and electrical kit. It could be great, just needs a bit more thought in to its design

Apart from the customizable trim and the 20inc alloys and electric closing door. I am not getting existing I am afraid. The driver seat could benifit from a lap top swivel table when facing the passenger compartment. No AC for camping either. No throne room like the Westvallia. The build quality is up there.

I do think the T6 is a great looking van but have you seen what sort of motorhome you can get for £50k, there is no comparison, the T6 is just not worth the money.

But the driver's seat doesn't fully swivel! I just don't understand why anyone designs like this. How long do you spend chatting as a family verses how long you spend stood cooking? I'd really design a dining room first and squeeze kitchen equipment around it rather than design a kitchen and squeeze a dining room around that. Why is it so common to have three quarter swivel driver seats? I don't understand. Leg room while sucking a beer has to trump elbow room while frying an egg. No?

I’ve always enjoyed your videos and reviews. You both have a natural ability to present and engage the audience well. Unfortunately though, I have to echo the comments of others, as most of your content of late has the feel of advertorials and not impartial reviews. All credit to you for generating income in this way but I no longer trust or value the opinions you impart as there is always the suspicion that you will say whatever your sponsor requests. I’m familiar with Vanworx conversions as they were on our shortlist a few years ago. They are good but nowhere near as good as the video would have the audience believe. Certainly when compared to conversions from Ecowagon, Exploria, NewWave, Reimo cmc & Three Bridge to name but a few. If the presenter (as in this case) is a California owner, then you know most of the platitudes are slightly disingenuous. I wish you both the very best with your upcoming addition but sadly it’s time to unsubscribe and move to less commercialised content. Take care.

I mean, it's okay, but it's hardly all that great. It kinda looks a bit tacky, like a lot of conversions. It's as if middle-aged men are the only designers. Who wants neon blue 'mood' lighting.
