I moved to Austin about 3 years ago and ever since, I have been getting so many questions asking "Where are the top places to live in Austin?". I feel like I still don't have all of the knowledge so I invited my friends, Alyssa and David. They are native Austinites and local Real Estate Advisors at Realty Austin! I'm so excited to have them on my channel to share their wealth of knowledge on the city of Austin, TX. In today's video we talk about the top places to live in Austin!
If you are moving to the area, I highly recommend to contact them for a custom tailored area tour of Austin!

Also an austinite born and raised. After selling my house in South Austin, I now own a condo in the Northwest Hills (which wasn't mentioned). I love the area because its 5 minutes North of DT, 7 Minutes south of the Domain, and its full of hills, stunning neighborhoods with canyon views, on the river/parks and preserves, restaurants, and just across Mopac from Burnet road, Anderson area, and all that central Austin has to offer. Definitely wish they had touched on this area.- but kind of glad they didn't, its a little secret gem of Austin.

Loved Austin in the 60s and 70s. It is still good, but it has become too expensive. I live in San Antonio which is also good. Both cities have their own character. Now, approaching retirement, we are looking for something along HW 35 between Austin and San Antonio. The best of both worlds.

You make it sound like paradise ! What you don’t hear is yes, there’s awesome trails, restaurants, & parks, but due to huge population of homeless, you must navigate your way around people sleeping or drugged out in front of many establishments, as well as being accosted on the trails. Sixth Street used to be an awesome, main place to go for great music & entertainment. Due to high crime, including shootings, & homeless harassment, I would stir clear!! Do your research & visit and see for yourself!

I have mixed feelings on this. Austin is an unusually safe city considering its population. It's gotten worse but still way better than most other major cities. I have to admit this is a big reason for me unsure if I want to move back because live music is #1 for me and all the homeless junkies reside around the music venues around 7th street. It's a pretty rotten scene. The Drag always had friendly vagabonds but it's a different vibe around 6th/7th. Austin is banning tents in August so we'll see how that goes.

Austin sure beats living in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Austin is basically in the middle of everything. I would choose San Antonio over Dallas and Houston but then again would choose Austin over San Antonio. I do have a “red flag” place in town and that’s in Pflugerville. I had a very unhappy childhood life in Pflugerville when I lived there as a kid due to family problems and I’m glad I don’t live there anymore. Since my family sold that house there and moved, I no longer have a reason to go back there so I just stay away from there. 1 red flag area is enough and too many red flag areas can put a strain on me living in Austin. I’m glad Pflugerville is my only red flag place in town and that’s the only spot in town I stay out of. Those neighborhoods mentioned above, I’m glad I didn’t live there as a kid or otherwise I would have avoided those areas.

They forgot to mention in this video the huge homeless problem Austin has. I moved to Austin from LA few months ago and I'm in shock with all the drug addicts and homeless tent camps. @@vimalcurio well for one....you can't walk on the sidewalks and they do break into cars. Some are mentally ill or in drugs.. Also do you really want to see every day tent communities all over the sidewalk,parks and under bridges. Do you really want to see garbage everywhere. On top of that you are paying a lot of money to live in Austin surrounded by tents and garbage. Doesn't make sense. California and many other states have the same issues. Unfortunately the government in this country doesn't care about the homeless population.

Pro - very liberal city, great local businesses. Con - it’s growing too quickly for the infrastructure to keep up with. With a lot of large companies moving to ATX, it’s growing FAST. Weather wise it beats Houston because it's on the border of 2 climate zones Hunidity of gulf region and Dryness of the West so it gets really hot and it can also sometimes be sticky cause of that moisture but nobody is as sticky in the entire state as Houston which I bet yall have next to no winter. In Austin snow is possible maybe 1- 3 days a year. Hurricanes we get the tail ends while Houston gets smashed. So it's basically like big Thunderstorm for all of an hour. It's hotter than Houston in heat heat but not humid heat. Summers can be dangerous especially August and September but there's alot of water recreation here to cool off so is nice. Your family can enjoy the best education in all of the southern US (no joke) as the I35 corridor from Waco down to San Antonio is one of the most educated regions in the country that's why companys like SpaceX, Tesla, Apple, Facebook, Google have centers not far from 35.

I was born and raised in Silicon Valley in CA. I'm 41 now and work tech but I'm leaving my job at the end of this month. Im sick of the high cost of living here, the liberal poltics and people, the homeless, the high taxes, the lockdown and gov officials, and the traffic. I was thinking about moving to Texas, and everyone says I should go to Austin, but I here that Austin is mini Cali and is a very expensive place which is also full of liberals. That doesn't sound like I'm escaping what I hate about CA. Is this true? I thought about moving to a place like Dallas but all the stuff I've read and seen makes it sound like Austin is the only place to live in Texas, that has things to do and that everywhere else in Texas is just a barren flat desolate place with nothing going on. no matter what I have to leave California because I just don't fit in here anymore and I don't want to keep stretching my dollar which doesn't go far here even though I make six figures. I thought Texas was a place to move to but I don't know much about Texas and where to go especially if I don't think Austin might be for me. Can any texts out there give any advice? Is Austin really similar to California? Where else in Texas or even where else in the US should I look at?
@MrInspirational43

Texas pay is ridiculously much lower than California and you will pay almost the same amount for a house there. The housing market in Texas isn't as affordable as people think unless you've retired and don't have to worry about getting a job. If you have a pension, it will split once you go to Texas. I make six figures in L.A. as a teacher. I barely made $125 a day as a sub in Texas even with a full credential in special education. I'm a Republican Californian too. They have an increasing homeless population in Austin too. The weather is terrible, it's very humid and sticky and expect to pay about $1000 a month for power in the summer. The only good thing around Austin is a place called Schlitterbahn which is a water park which is incredible but that's in New Braunfels which is south of Austin. If you like sticky, hot weather you'll like Austin. Be ready for L.A. traffic, it's already there. My dad and his soon to be wife live in Georgetown which is more affordable but it's north of Austin. You won't have a union to back you up, Texas is a right to work state only.

I have family in the Austin area. It's EXTREMELY humid during the summer and in Spring it can be humid too. Be ready to pay at least $1000 a month for your power bill in the summer. I moved from South Texas to Los Angeles in 1999. The pay is MUCH lower in Texas and there are no unions to protect your rights and be ready to fight for a job, especially if you're a teacher. The jobs are not plentiful there. I'm a special education teacher and I couldn't even find employment in 1997 with a lifetime credential. I am glad I moved away from Texas. I don't regret it at all.

Look for a map of the Austin light rail system and the planned expansion. You can bike to the light rail system and either lock your bike there or take it along with you. I like Block House Creek in Cedar Park/Leander. Also, there are apts and condos near the transit system.

Most big cities in America are liberal. So you're in for a rude awakening. I would stick to rural areas if you want to be with conservatives only.

ATX is trash. Born and raised there and I got out as soon as possible. Colorado is fucking awesome.
