I am talking with my first host family right now and I really like them, they get along with me and pay double what most host families pay so I can travel more, which is the goal of my stay. If they ask to match with me, how do I tell them that I really like them and may want to match with them but want to wait a few weeks before matching? I'm scared they match with someone else while I am looking at other families.

Graham - Articulate and detailed! Still trying to decide between a male vs female au Pairs for my sons. When did you start Au pairing after your graduated from university or high school? Would you ever join a host family when there are 2 Au Pairs so you can work in tandem and not be lonely in a foreign country? Gratitude.

Hello! Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment. I think a male au pair for your sons would be great :) I first became an au pair (just 2 months) after graduating high school. After that quick au pair stay, I returned home from a year to do university. I went with my long-term host family shortly after finishing college. It's totally up to you and the au pair though! Best wishes and I hope you subscribe to the channel!

@@grahamcargle Did you use Au Pair World before and after graduating college? I thought Au Pair contracts are usually longer than 2 months (your first experience after high school)? In my first comment, I also asked if you would ever join a host family if there were 2 Au Pairs to hopefully give respite for you/like a work roommate (one English native speaker & one Spanish native speaker) - in a studio apartment (with kitchen/bathroom). My children are born raised first 8 years in Colombia (native speakers but I want Au Pairs to speak in English when at home and with Au Pairs.). Thanks Graham!

How do you ask them how much they’re willing to pay you? Assuming that most don’t want to pay more than the minimum amount?
@grahamcargle
@grahamcargle 2 жыл бұрын
That's a wonderful question! I would just be up front about it and explain exactly what you're expecting. If you think they should pay you more, explain why. Of course, be reasonable and respectful, but that is totally something that you can negotiate! Best of luck and I hope you subscribe :)

Hi, Graham) Thanks for the video once again. A question popped up whilst you were talking about getting your mum on your interview. Is bringing a parent to the call something you can do openly (warning the host family, of course)? Or is it something better to avoid?

All thanks to you! I normally just introduce my mom, but that’s totally up to you. Sometimes she doesn’t join, sometimes she does. Does that answer your question?

@@grahamcargle It does, technically 😅 I was uncertain as I had spoken to a host family on a forum and according to them, the call should be super formal, like an actual work interview.

@@Фаэс-щ2я Ahhhh, very interesting! None of mine have every been that formal, but I suppose that every host family is a little different. I mean, at the end of the day, if everything works out, you'll be living with these people, so I would say just be natural and honest!

Should I go with the first family if they’re answering all my questions/feels right?
@grahamcargle
@grahamcargle 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hannah! I don't advise that you go with the first family. If it just feels right, then it might be just right, but it's really hard to know if you've never known what it's like to interview with another family. Does that make sense? Be sure to follow me on Insta so we can keep up! @aupair.graham
