Top Roach Challenge Tutorial - Still failing!

I've received a number of requests to get an update on Top Roach and how I am going with it. I still have not got the challenge but I'm getting closer every time I come back. Hopefully this video will help you get close and hope some of you actually get it.

I've started this challenge since 2 days, have watched lots of videos that would help me out. my best run was 43 fault so far, after watching this I just had 11 faults! while the big mess up was the very last (easy) part.. but it motivates me to keep going! at first I never thought I would make this at all! (especially after seeing people making this challenge look so easy)

AkRis Hammer One with the bike is EZ once you get at least under 100 faults on Inferno 4, and you know where the back wheel of the pit viper is.

Usually I don't write any comments at all. I only subscribe and enjoy videos. Sometimes it's positive feedback I'm giving. This time, I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for all your efforts you put into describing your techniques. It helped a lot. I thought I'd lose my mind when unfortunately I touched that restart button a few hours ago. But not having given up, I tried over and over again and I finally did it a few minutes ago. Guess it took me about 20 hours to complete this challenge. Now there's only one challenge left: The invisible bike on Inferno IV... My written English may not be flawless because I'm German, but I hope you get the message: Keep on doing those great videos and thank you very much!!

I gave up on this stupid ass challenge a long time ago. Came back yesterday and gave it another good 20 tries and ended up completing it!! WHAT. A. NIGHTMARE. Seriously. Glad I ended up getting it. Miss your videos!!

Hey Shady, I've found a slightly more consistent way, for me at least, to get past the long jump at 5:25-5:35. I use the method you were talking about for another jump. When hitting the white crate thing in the middle, I drop my back wheel and then sit into the bunny hop to get that extra speed and grip. I now get that jump without faulting about 75% of the time. Hope it helps!

Almost 5 years later after my previous comment. best run back then was 5 faults in the end with the roach. After lots of trials rising, this feels kinda slow, but it is the only challenge I have left. So I'm going at it again. Good thing I've finished the invisible bike challenge tonight so that gives a boost too.

You've said it before, the tutorial is just at the beginning, after that it's just practice, and you showed the practice. Watching you go through and figure things out helps us figure it out too, it's not just a video of you showing us you know how.. I say great vids, and would love to see more like this one! I like the length.

I'd say have a shot at "Red Source" by Bloddae on track central. Difficulty I would say is a little easier than rock of rages ninja version, so definitely within your grasp. If you breeze through that, try "Ninja 2 - try if u dare" which is around the same difficulty but employs some interesting sub-ninja standard skill level techniques. Sorry for the long post.

About the jump near the end (shown in the video at 6.30); the most consistent way I found of doing it is that as you come up on the "box", hit the break (while front of the bike is already above and only the back wheel is in contact with the box), so that the momentum goes more forward rather than up.

Yo FatShady, I worked on this challenge yesterday, after 4 hours i finally got this challenge successed :D The only one Challenge that i Need is "Pipe Phobie", but i suck in doing wheelie :(

Pianist VK I got it ages ago but wasn't recording sadly. Congrats. It's crazy hard. Pipe phobia was easier for me and i also suck at wheelies. Just stick at it like i did and you'll have it in no time.

Just thought of something else, at times like the jump at 18:41 when you can't rotate the bike forward fast enough to land the front wheel and use the brake tapping technique, tapping the brake quickly or holding it (not sure which) in the air will rotate the bike forward very fast

pomp97 Keep at it mate. Took me loads of time both while recording and not. Manager to get it and it will just be a lucky run where it all comes together. Eventually it'll happen. My best run before i got it was 4 faults.

I completed pipe phobia without too much of a problem but finding this challenge so hard. This game is brutal. I really want to give up but I’ve come so far.

If you’ve come this far you have to see it through. Even if you take a break and come back to it. I find trying every time you play some games. Have a few attempts then play something else. Eventually you get down to consistently getting under 5 faults. Once you are at that point it’s only a matter of grinding til you get that one perfect run.

@@UniversityOfTrials it's taken me 5 months to pluck up the courage to play trials fusion again, but I've managed to complete all dlc achievements/trophies and i've gotten multiple 5 fault runs on this track. But I've reached a point where I've made no progress for the past week. I don't know whether to have a break from the game. I've put so many hours into it now and don't want to give up.

Please could you do a tutorial video on how to do the last obstacle on infero 4 the part where you're on the round thing then you have to go up a slope then to go on the part where only one wheel to fit but I struggle on getting up to the platform to finish the track

I used to do the second to last obstacle the way you do it, trying to bunny hop in a way that gets your front tire on top of the box. I found it alot more consistent to actually stay full throttle and drive up the wall then hit the brake after the front tire leaves the wall but your back tire is still in contact. The back tire locking up causes your bike to spin forward into an easy endo then just fap your back wheel up. Then again ive only done it with the pit viper, but I imagine its probably just as useful for the roach. I was WAAAAY more consistent on the pit viper once i started using that technique. I have no plans on even attempting this course on the roach ;)

UniversityOfTrials Should specify this is when i take it in 2 parts and settle myself on the ramp. Might be useful if you do it in one motion, but when I was going for the platinum I preferred to just settle on the ramp rather than risk an awkward landing and an otherwise avoidable fault.

So out of couriosity loaded up rock of rages on the roach. The technique is definitely doable, though far more difficult than the pit viper. The nice thing is if you dont quite get a good run up you can generally back off and save it without faulting whereas, when I tried to do the entire obstacle in one go a screw up almost always resulted in a fault. IMO with a little practice its definitely the safer and more consistent method. My first run was like 150 faults, then 40, then 15... which sucks because now it seems doable and at some point im probably going to have to actually sit down and try to complete top roach.

At 16:32 (I think it's the second checkpoint) I wonder if it would be easier to not stop there and bounce off of the back wheel up to the next platform. I know I've done it on the Pit Viper but I don't know if it would work on the Roach. EDIT: Tried it, does not work at all.

What I do on the hard part is try to make my front wheel to not touch the second part of the ramp and just use the back wheel to bounce the front part over.

It’s a long time ago but IIRC this and way of the machine platinum I did without filming as I grinder them for a few weeks like an hour every time I played. Just repeated til I got it. I know WOTM plat I uploaded my replay but this one I don’t know if I did anything. It’s so hard to do it while streaming or recording so sometimes I needed to focus.

Hey Shady, I was wondering if you knew anything about why the rider lights on fire on the "sunrise dash" track when u perform a "proud hero" pose on the first jump and land it? is this related to a squirrel? would like to know if u have noticed this as well or if you could have a look at it, Thanks!

On my 3rd attempt at this I made it all the way to the end and messed up since I was completely shocked that I "did it." I faulted on the last checkpoint about 5 seconds from having the challenge completed. Since then, it's been along rode that just never ends. The closest I've gotten has been 1 fault, of course, at the second to last checkpoint. I'm sure that it's just a matter of time before I get it... I try here an there though. I will say, do not watch replay of people doing the challenge, it will just mess with you and then you have no hope of completing the challenge for a while longer.I made that mistake and it took me awhile to recover. Anyway... Happy hunting for this challenge.
