Great video 👍😁 Yes on future video of how to setup Synology DNS Server when you only have one Domain controller 👍

Sounds interesting, I’m on board (and I don’t even know what any of that means)

Great video, very useful to not get lost in the many packages offered by Synology. Thanks for sharing!

Will you cover Mail Station (2:59)? Explain what that is. Then, maybe, also how to backup (or download) all Gmail emails to some type of local storage -- like Outlook or something.

Will, I have both Synology and QNAP NAS's. I have been learning to create VM's on the QNAP and one of the QNAP VM features is the ability to make Snapshots of the VM within the VM manager. Can you do the same thing with Synology ? BTW, your video on using Remote Desktop Connection to connect to the VM is brilliant and I highly recommend it.

If you’d make a video explaining DNS, it’d be great. Moreover could you compare hyper backup vs snapshot replication? When you use what?

I’m curious how to back up my website which is a plain web hosting company with FTP access in one of your videos you mentioned that active back up for business should have the ability to do that, but it only backs up physical servers shares and images is there a way to grab data from an FTP?
@igordrummond9213 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. All your snapshot content has been really useful so far. Just one quick question: I use BTRFS fast clone extensively, is Snapshot Replication aware of "Fast Clone" when replicating to another NAS?

Long time fan of your channel and btw thanks to you I purchased my Synology 1621+ (42TB available, 2 drive fail tolerance + 32MB RAM + 2X1TB SSD). Question: what Synology tool or other open source tool can I use to control my mother's laptop overseas (help her configure / install / troubleshoot)? TeamViewer personal version used to work for me but their AI incorrectly marks me as business use when is actually only weekends, 1 hour per month on average. Looking for a security first remote desktop solution. Paid version are not very practical given my 1 hour per month usage... Thank you so much! P.S. Like the voice and the style you present in! Very friendly and to the point!!

I use AnyDesk for remote access

What firewall do you use/recommend for home use. Currently have a Fortigate but I'm not getting updates due to not having a subscription. So I'm looking for a non-subscription base firewall. Thanks in advance 😄

In general either PF sense or UniFi. If you just need something plug and play UniFi is pretty awesome now. PF sense has more tinkering you have to do (but also can do)

I have a netgate pfsense device as my main router. How would setting up openvpn on that one make things more complicated, opposed to setting it up directly on my Synology NAS? The main focus being services of the Synology device, as I have not opened it up to the internetz and am contemplating the best way to achieve this in a safe and secure manner.

Good video, thank you. What sort of broadband do you have, to handle traffic to/from cloud services, AWS et al?
@SpaceRexWill Жыл бұрын
I use a VPN server to connect between the two sites
@ctyl5686 Жыл бұрын
Yes, but what sort of bandwidth is needed for the high data transfer volumes and particularly the 'offsite' backups you describe.

Is synology is a great alternative to replace transfernow ? i need to send tons of files to my clients every few days and the file size ranges from 500mb - 3gb each. Heard the download speed for the sharing files is super slow or else i might dump the transfernow and gdrive and moves to Nas instead

Do you recommend Active Backup for business over Proxmox Backup service to back up my proxmox server VMs? It probably doesn't help the containers.
@SpaceRexWill Жыл бұрын
If proxmox backup works then I would go with that, less complications

How does DSM’s VPN server differ from VPM Server on the RT6600ax’s SRM? Which one would you use?
@SpaceRexWill Жыл бұрын
So if its just for home users then I would use the router one (simpler). But if its business and your users are already on the NAS then you can use the one on the NAS. Is not a huge difference

Hey Will. I have a 200tb Windows server that I would like to back up my DS1621+ to. What's the best way to do this since Hyper Backup doesn't support Windows. Thanks
@SpaceRexWill Жыл бұрын
Its hard to setup a backup to windows. What I would do is install WebDAV on the windows server

In regards to security. Not a fan of the openvpn app on the iPhone. I’d be concerned if my phone is lost/stolen and someone can guess my password, they can access my network as openvpn does not prompt a code or FaceID to unlock the app

Not everything is quite so rosy. Active Backup for Business is way less useful for Linux as the latest supported kernel is massively outdated (5.15 LTS) and the kernel version for the bare-metal restore software is so non-standard and old I couldn't access the libraries I needed to compile new drivers for NICs etc when I needed it. When the ABB agent doesn't support the latest LTS kernel or notoriously conservative Debian release you know there's a serious problem. For a while I used an older Ubuntu with 5.15 just to keep support for the ABB agent but eventually gave up and moved to Debian 12 minus ABB. Compatibility of v4/v3 Hyberbackup/Hyperbackup Agent also an issue if you back up to an old NAS that doesn't have DSM 7.2. My DS1621+ is still running 7.1.1 because of that....

Thank you for this another amazing video. I had this exact configuration of DNS. Works very well and enhanced my internet navigation too. I just stopped using in favor of the same functionality that I have now on OPNSense. BTW... Wold be awesome if someone like you would cover some OPNSense scenarios :-)
