As much as I love Bionicle, I also kinda blame it for exactly that. All the different masks n stuff you could collect really gave Lego the "oh shit people will totally pay for this" realization, and they haven't really stopped since then 🤣

@@thegargoylecumeth7932 As this video has shown, Bionicle didnt start the collectible craze in Lego. It began around the 90s with the chromed pieces, the transparent diamond jewels, the glow in the dark parts, the specific printed plates and even collectible figures in the early 2000s. Bionicle was just emulating Lego´s standard collectible format just like a lot of themes at the time and since.

You didn't even mention how expensive a lot of those Bionicle masks have become over the years. There are still to this day fans who will try to track down and collect all of them, despite the insane prices some if them go for now. This just goes to show how big of an impact they had.

I unfortunately got into the mask collecting game a little too late, some are way too expensive at this point, so all I’m aiming for is getting all the golden and silver masks from 2001 and a few special cool masks like the chrome Hau and transparent green Miru

@@lukestarkiller1470 I got so lucky. 7 or 8 years ago I was at a flea market and some lady had a bucket of assorted lego parts at 5 cents per piece. Pick and choose as you please. She just HAPPENED to have a golden Ignika mask from the Toa Mata Nui titan set in that bin. I got the ignika for a nickel

For the Infinity Stones, its funny that you say you can collect the stones like Thanos in the movie. This happened by accident, but the order that my brother and I got the Infinity War sets (and their respective stones) also happened to be the same order that Thanos got the stones in the movie!

Honestly if Bionicle made multicolor mask packs of the later types of mask those would've been amazing, and a huge boon to the MOC community

They should not have stopped making mask packs after 2003. I would have loved Toa Metru mask recolors and the melded Metru Matoran masks. Ofc they could have still made the Kanoka disks (also made 5 other Toa disks to match Vakamas set transparent red with his mask on it).

bionicle as a line in general was full of collectibles because almost every set had unique parts besides the masks, all the armor, weapon, and body parts for the torso and limbs were unique and they changed constantly depending on which wave they were part of.

8:24 I actually got one of these in a Hidden Side set & I’m using it as one of the Shards of Power from Geometry Dash. Knowing there’s other colors besides just that yellow one I’m definitely gonna try to pick these up separately to complete the group of 5.

The old days… When Lego was trying out different things! They didn’t care about creating perfect sets, but making it fun for kids. These collectibles reminded me of those old days! Man I miss them…

Besides the books, Nexo Knights had the shields as collectibles. Some were sold exclusively in sets while others in special collectible shield packs.

I think orient expedition did the whole chrome collectible armor alot better even if it was missing a breastplate. Since it had actual story significance, were gold and played a part in the included board games of the sets.

One thing about the Orient adventure sets. They also double as a board game so depending on how you want to display them, you can just put them on a table and use them for a family game night.

Kinda surprised you didn't include the Collectible Minifigures line, but that seems like kind of a given, since Minifigure collecting extends across all themes. Personally, I would have bumped the Ninjago weapons collectibles off the list in place of the Throwbots/Slizer throwing disks, which were arguably Lego's first proper Collectible item. The artwork on those disks is fantastic, and acquiring them all is no easy feat

I started to enjoy Slizer disks in hindsight, as their prints were a decent way of giving insight into the Slizer world and lore. When I decided to restore my Slizer collection, I also decided to collect all the disks. While most of them were pretty cheap, the 7-pip disks were expensive on a Bionicle mask level. Had to throw over 20€ per disk for most of them. I also had to wait a few months until one of the 7-pip disks showed up on Bricklink, the 7-pip disks in general were in *that* short a supply. I moced foldable stands to present the disks in front of each Slizer in a stylized way.

I got real excited when you showed the Orient Expedition golden artifacts (Especially the Golden Dragon since I own it myself) and the Kanohi Masks of Bionicle. Had plenty of those as well! I have a golden mask of strength Kanohi mask. It's the only Bionicle mask I have, even though I remember having more Bionicles when I were youngee. Though I'm really happy that it's golden!

I’ve actually been working on collecting a lot of these pretty recently just through Bricklink, I wasn’t aware of the Nexo Knights books though, those are pretty unique and I’ll probably look into collecting those now, maybe build a little bookcase for them all

I’m okay with this list but the elemental blades in ninjago season 2 were perfect collectibles even though all of them came in one set it was perfect you could get all the ninja except for Lloyd and get good or decent vehicles, me personally liked Cole’s earth driller and Kai’s fire mech because of how they were applied. Quick question, does the kanhoi ignika's has some form of reference to the Greek spartan helmet belos? I know that faber designed and released concept art for the ignika, but I couldn't look twice that some iterations of the mask of life has some form of nod to Greek spartan helmets. Imo the infinity stones coming in rings of 4 per set already struck a good balance between collectiblity and accessability giving owners 3x dupes to trade or sell into the market, the thors hammer imo should have had other transparent colours to cement it as the "fake" one and the advent calander just kinda made them hunt too easy. The thanos mech was just straight up way too much making 6/6 infinity gauntlets even more common that thanos bigfigs themselves.
