Watching and learning from your videos is a great way to learn about jazz masters and their music. My mornings begin with a cup or two of hot dark coffee and your videos. Great stuff. I've learned about so much 'new music' from you. Thank you!

Thanks Ken ! Informative as always! Great selection! AT’s book was called Notes & Tones a great read of interviews between musicians!

This is an excellent list. Thanks for including "The Real McCoy". One of my top ten as well. When those unfamiliar with jazz ask me for recommendations it's always on the list. Side one is a revelation. McCoy's ability to induce an almost trancelike state with those huge chords is amazing. A truly great album.

Hi Ken. I love the fact that, your carrying a diary looking writing "book", around your flat reading from. It just makes it all that more real and valid to me. No rehearsal here, just - 1,2,3. hit record (not, like in your #1 hit record) ;-) Cheers from Denmark

I know I’m on the right track when I have most of the vinyl listed here, my feeling exactly on the Music Matters and Analogue Productions 45 rpm vinyl, when I want to really listen, those puppies give my system a real work out. What I hear compared to the Tone Poet series is as you describe Ken. I have a decent system that makes these reissues come alive. Great stuff once again Ken. Thanks 😎

Small correction, AcousTech was not the precursor to Analogue Productions, it was the name of Kevin Gray’s mastering studio at the time. So it’s more of a precursor to Coherent Audio

Ken, all great selections. Always like hearing your thoughts on the music itself, vinyl or hi-fi equipment. Appreciate your comments on Mobley and Shorter. Your preference of Hubbard over Morgan is interesting although I don’t agree with it. You mentioned that you don’t have a high res of Lee Morgan’s “Search for the New Land.” You better get one, or re-listen to the one you have! All compositions are by Lee, and all are golden, including the now jazz standards “Mr. Kenyatta” and “The Joker.” You mention Wayne’s spiritual quality in his Blue Notes. I think you’ll find the same in the title track “Search for the New Land.” Will never forget listening to it the first time, mesmerizing as the tune builds with Lee, Wayne and Grant Green taking their solos with fine rhythmic support. Happy listening and cheers!

Ken! I should have watched this before going to the store. I am very happy with the albums I got from the store today. I haven’t heard Andrew Hill’s Black fire yet, but I did listen to Dexter Gordon’s One Flight up on Spotify on my way back to Brooklyn. Your recommendation was spot on. I should have bought that one too. Amazing album.

Great video Ken, as always. Art’s Delight is a great album, but my favourite is Mr. AT. It just swings like crazy. Unfortunately, as far as I know, it was only ever released on cd and no one ever talks about it. Would love to see it released as a Tone Poet.

Great list and insightful overview. All fantastic titles though I would really try to squeeze in Morgan's Search for New Land. And as someone with more avant leanings my baker's dozen essentials would have to include Dolphy's Out to Lunch and Hill's Point of Departure but can't argue with Moncur's Evolution.

Awesome, thanks Ken! Couple of things....Dex's One Flight Up was not recorded by RVG. It was recorded in Paris at CBS Studios by Jacques Lubin. Acoustic Sounds never released BN's on 33....they were all 45.

I originally asked that question in the video. I don’t think Nelles Henning or said Peterson was recorded in the US. But since it has that same crummy piano sound I thought it must be Rudy.

Thank you for the heads up on the upcoming Lee Morgan Live at the Lighthouse release. I had no idea it was in the works. I've been bidding and losing on the 3cd set on ebay regularly ;) I hope the 8cd set isn't too far out of reach. I can't imagine what they will charge for the 12lp set. I have the 2 lp set and it's a great performance. I'm really curious what the rest sounds like. Thanks Ken. Charles

I can't afford any of the Music Matters. I don't get free records from labels and I don't want to pay three/four times the amount on Ebay or Discogs. Sorry to sound like a complainer Record collecting used to be fun but not anymore.

That's crazy people don't want the 45s. That's all I buy from MMJ anyone. If they don't release another round of SRXs, that will be all I buy from them. Isn't it the goal to get the best sounding copy of an LP as possible? If people don't want the 45s, "Great.... more for ME!" Glad to see a new video Ken. Note: Hey Ken, how about showing Pablo some love. What, you don't like Oscar and Joe? 😉✌️
