So here's an idea; you've had dragons and now demons, but how about to counter them, how about you cover their eternal adversaries; the knights? I imagine that Meta Knight and Shovel Knight could score well on such a list; they are very honorable warriors and epic fighters, to be sure. Of course, I usually don't play a lot of fantasy games with knights in them, so I'd love to see what other brave and gallant knights exist in gaming. Edit: I know that there are better opposites for demons than knights, which is why I mentioned how has covered both demons AND dragons. I admit that it was not the best transition to request a video on knights, but I want to see a video on knights. I just finished Kirby & the Forgotten Land recently, and that game reminded me how AWESOME Meta Knight is, and I want Josh to sing his well-deserved praises, because we all know that he'd likely rank high on a list of video game knights, whether as just a knight in general or as a knight boss.

Yess! Oersted/Odio is one of the most tragic heroes/final bosses/main villains ever. (Some minor spoilers below) He was done dirty by almost everyone around him, and the ones who remained true friends all ended up dead. Boy tried so hard to do the right thing but got screwed over by a bunch of unfaithful nitwits and a jealous dirtbag.

@@Foxgearstudios One of the reasons is the recycling of some bosses like Orochi, the Spider Queen and all the rematches in the Ark of Yamato. I may have liked the game and even finished it before, but I will admit that it's quite a blemish.

Y’know, Eggman’s plan using Dark Gaia to make a themepark becomes hilarious when you realise the backstory to the Nemesis roller coaster at Alton Towers is basically a Roller Coaster built on top of an Alien cosmic horror monster

Spoilers about Manus after Dark Souls 1 Something that goes unmentioned about Manus: In Dark Souls 2, his influence is so strong that upon his defeat by the Chosen Undead in DS1, his essence divided itself into 4 maidens that sought out kings whose kingdoms they could harvest for souls, one of them is one of the final bosses, the other 3 being tied to the respective DLC's of DS2. Manus is a beast!

Sucks that the DLC areas added were pains in the ass with such huge damage sponge common enemies with crap hit boxes. And this is coming from a guy who likes and says DS2 gets too much hate. And I mean it's a shame, because THAT LORE IS FUCKING AWESOME! It kind of reminds me of the Three Queens from Irish Celtic myth, with their three champions to fight: one a terror to her kingdom, one a king she mourns, and another a knight she tricked into betraying his king. And a fourth that uses the player like a puppet to lead to the kiln. God that lore is so cool!!!

Honorable Mentions: *The Icon Of Sin - DOOM Eternal -First, destroy the armor, then, destroy parts of its body. All the while, hordes of enemies are rushing you from every nook and cranny and the Icon is attacking from the edge of the arena. All this going on at once means you have to keep moving, making for a very frantic fight. *Mundas - Devil May Cry -Starting off with a battle in the skies followed by a stand off in hell. And he has the nerve to activate a self-destruct after the fight and show up during our escape. *Emporer Doviculous - Brutal Legend -A stage battle where you need to bring down the heads of the giant monster Doviculous summons and drive the car through it's eyes leading to a final stand with the Emporer himself. All the while, Painkiller by Judas Priest plays in the latter phase.

Very much appreciated to see somebody mention Doviculus! He and the Tainted Coil are among the most stand-out demon characters and factions i've come across in video games. I personally am quite a fan of Samael from the Darksiders series too.

I just *K N E W* that Odio from LIVEAƎVI⅃ would be here. Like, the remake not only gave the Purity fight justice, but added an amazing Sin fight for the True Ending that has one of the best endings ever. I beat him with Oboromaru, Lei, Akira, and Masaru as the primary party.

A good rule of thumb for me is that lawful can also be considered as the "has a plan or reason" for what it does alignment while it's inverse chaotic is the "does it because it feels good" alignment. Lawful evil: take over the world (lex luthor) Chaotic evil: destroy the world or just kill everything on it, cus fuck it (joker) But that's just me, everybody has their own way to spin something.

Shadow Queen isn't a superboss, she's the final boss. The superboss from that game is Bonetail, and is the only superboss in the paper Mario series. (especially since only the first two games are true RPGs) Plus Shadow Queen is only so long because the "getting everyone's help" cutscene is over 20 minutes long. Fun fact, did you know you can skip cutscenes in TTYD? You just need a super complex button combination and you're golden. There are way longer bosses including ones that made the list like Yeizmat from FFXII, Absolute Virtue + Pandemonium Warden from FFXI, and Nyx Avatar from Persona 3.

@@MacNava Alien Queen from Echo is scary but not scarier than Dead Hand. Haven't played Bloodborne but I'm pretty sure that game doesn't count as it's like at least partially a horror game. Plus the game is so freaking dark that all the enemies just appear like shadow blobs and therefore aren't as scary. Nothing in a spiderman game is scary I'll tell you that. There's no way DOCTOR OCTOPUS is scarier than Dead Hand. Edit: Just looked up Monster Ock and he's not scary at all! More silly than scary. You obviously haven't played the Gold Box version of OoT and/or read the lore. It's insanely disturbing. Have no idea how they got away with those things in a E rated game. Later prints of the N64 version (which all ports used as a base) as well as the 3DS version were significantly censored, Deadhand being one of the main victims.

@@theautisticintrovertedluca3634 Well, ignoring that this is just Josh’s personal list.(not to be sounding negative to you or anything of that tone, just that this is a very opinionated list) Giratina is supposed to be based on the devil with the 6 wings, 6 legs, & 6 ribs and was created by Arceus, who’s supposed to be based on God. & both his Altered & Origin Forms are based off of the Beasts of Revelation(which are described as demonic beings). Doesn’t help that the Pokédex for him says “It was banished for its violence. It silently gazed upon the old world from the Distortion World”. So, I do believe that Giratina is a Demonic creature, and it’s also in the colors, Grey, Black, Gold, & Red create this very uneasy look to him. & that he is summoned by Cyrus, which depicted it as a very creepy, black figure with only it’s mouth, claws, & piercing, red eyes being the only things visible.

It's funny when bringing up Gaismagorm because as Malzeno is based off of vampires, Gaismagorm is based off of the devil. It's even in its relationship with Malzeno as how Dracula got his powers by making a deal with the Devil the same as how Malzeno got its powers from Gaismagorm trying to absorb all life for itself by hijacking the same Qurios Gaismagorm uses.

Here’s the top 10 list I’d love to see somebody try to tackle: Top 10 “Greater good“ type villains. Those manipulators, The villains that believe that they’re doing good. They’re usually the most insidious, and the most dangerous because they can convince random people to do the dirty work for them. That they’re doing what’s best for everyone, win in truth they’re just throwing a bunch of bodies onto a pyre whether it’s to create a new order or protect the status quo. (Extra points in the list if the villain truly believes in their rhetoric.)

And in Three Hopes she's way better and actually feels like a protagonist instead of a deeply flawed morally grey protagonist/antagonist who makes some REALLY dumb decisions. Basically to compare Three Hopes and There Houses Edelgard: Houses -Commits genoside on an entire endangered race. -Teams up with the people who ruined her life, killed her siblings, and tortured and killed many of her friends. -Glorifies a serial killer tyrant and makes her champion into said serial killer tyrant's successor. -Desecrates a holy tomb and steals the bones of hearts of children to make weapons. Hopes -Gets rid of the terrorists who ruined her life ASAP -Doesn't commit multiple war crimes, and does everything in her power to spare her enemies if possible -Her route has the least garenteed deaths (two, being Ingrid and Gustav both who are hated by the fanbase) and the most possible recruits. -Her route is the only route where both Ashe and his dad (Lonato) both live. Literally the only bad things Edelgard did in hopes is frame the central church unfairly based on lies and half truths (which she also did in Houses) and make Count Varley (the biggest scumbag in Fodlan) the new leader of the church, though luckily that can be redeemed if you let Count Varley die in the final chapter so he can be replaced with Mercedes or Marianne. (both who are recruitable in CF)

If I could add one honorable mention, it would be Lucifer from Shin Megami Tensei. It's literally a franchise about demons-you'd have to expect Lucy to show up at some point. In terms of correlation to the term "demon bosses", I'd recommend his fight in SMT Nocturne, but the one from SMT V is also noteworthy in its own right.

Well, he included the Matador Fight from Nocturne in Difficulty Spike Bosses List, so he'd better include it in the Devils List.

A good honourable mention would be Chaos from the Castlevania Series. Even if he appears in only one game (That being Aria of Sorrow), he is responsible for the constant resurrections of Dracula, as well as the endless battle between the dark lord and the Belmonts. Battling him in Aria is also symbolic because it is Soma fighting against his own fate of becoming the next incarnate of Dracula, and Chaos not only represents Soma's inner darkness, but the entire chaotic realm and force of evil that has proceeded across the entire franchise.

Definitely agree that Chaos from Castlevania should definitely be at least mentioned. Chaos is very obviously the greater scope villain of the entire series and the force behind everything. Heck, if you look into the lore a bit Dracula himself is actually a tragic villain and is quite relatable and even somewhat sympathetic, unlike Chaos who is darkness and sin incarnate. A force of nature and the true opposite of God rather than an actual character. Too bad his fight kinda sucks tho. I'm glad Soma/Mathias and Mina/Lisa/Elizabeth can finally get a happy ending after DoS. He's earned it after nearly 1000 years of suffering in darkness.

Symphony of the Night is only around halfway through the timeline, so a lot of stuff happened before that game. As for the timeline: Era of the Beginning 1016: Lament of Innocence (Mathias becomes Dracula) 1218: Dracula's Curse (Netflix S1-S2 also works. S3 is an AU/fanfiction and not canon to the story) 1219: Curse of Darkness (direct sequel to Dracula's Curse) Era of the Eternal War 1318: Castlevania: The Adventure/Adventure Rebirth 1320: Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (direct sequent to Adventure/Adventure Rebirth) 1418: Castlevania/Vampire Killer/Haunted Castle/Castlevania Chronicles/Super Castlevania IV (the first game that was remade FOUR TIMES and the one with Simon Belmont. Though elements of them HAVE appeared in the series namely in Symphony of the Night with it's main superboss. -Castlevania Judgement: A non canon crossover fighting game involving heavy time travel and wild redesigns and personality changes for all the characters. Obviously non canon. -Castlevania Legend: The 3rd Castlevania game on Game Boy that was originally meant to be a prequel to Castlevania 3. Deeply contradicts the rest of the timeline (Trevor is Dracula's grandson?!) and was retconned out of existance when Lament of Innocence released. -Castlevania Harmony of Despair - A silly multiplayer fanservice crossover dungeon crawler loot-based RPG featuring a large cast of characters and no real story. -All the Panchinko and mobile games/ports: I can't believe this has to be said. Weird Stuff that is probably canon -The Symphony of the Night and Dawn of Sorrow audio dramas that exist as epilogues for both those games. Very arguably canon despite they're obscurity.

There's actually some benefit to replaying Okami after beating it the first time. If you do things well you have access to a lot more earlier on which opens up new avenues through the game. Plus there's new aesthetics so you can "technically" play as not just amaterasu but other versions of her and even Shiranui in the way that the villagers see you.

I had no idea who was gonna be on here, but then I saw Bendy in the intro. I can definitely understand why he wasn't on the list since his boss fight isn't really that good. Plus, even though he's called The Ink Demon by many, several others call Bendy a "devil", and this is a list for demons. I just hope that one day, Josh talks about Bendy. Correction: Manus is not a demon. He's a pygmi. The sorcerers of Oolacile found him buried in a deep crevice and started experimenting on him. That's where the dark sorceries come from. Their experimentation on him is what ended up turning him into what you fight. He is the one that is corrupted, and his humanity is what exploded outward to create the abyss in the city. Artorias, unfortunately, was just a hero who got caught up in it all and horrifically failed in his given task of purging it all.

My pick would go to Mortamor from Dragon Quest 6. You never directly see him until the final battle, but you do feel his presence as he is responsible for the four most powerful demons in both the real and dream world. He was so dangerous that a king tried to summon an eldritch abomination to get rid of him only for it to refuse to listen and destroy his entire castle. He's also made a separate world that is affecting the other two where he tortures their inhabitants by draining their power in order to make them succumb to despair, having them kill each other over a nonexistent treasure and imprisoning them. Even after you save the people in the prison, he retaliates by turning them to stone. And that's not even all of it, because the Great Sage Isaac's younger brother is kept in the same prison's maximum security cell. He's there because Mortamor and his minions want to corrupt Isaac by trapping him in his own mind and gaslighting him with a vision of his brother being executed vía guillotine. He manages to push through the pain it causes him even though he doesn't know his brother is ok, but he's "rewarded" for his iron will by being shown that vision over and over again as Mortamor's minions gleefully tell him that he killed his brother by doing nothing. By the time the main party came with the brother to snap Isaac out of it, the Sage was on the verge of giving up. After you rescue Isaac, you can finally enter Mortamor's lair to fight him once and for all. He appears in the shape of and old wizard and has orbs that can't be targeted that launch spells and breath attacks. After you destroy his body, you hear his voice as (in the DS version, the original just had him fuse with the orbs) his true demonic form emerges from nothing and absorbs the two orbs. He now has access to more brute strength as well as high defense, which he can put to good use by ramming into you on top of still having a wide range of spells. After you defeat him once again, he threatens to take you with him as (again in the DS version) his true form disintigrates... Only for a pair of claws to tear through the sky as the head emerges with them. This time, all three are separate targets. In fact, you have to destroy all of them or risk one of the claws reviving the others with half of their max HP. One last neat little detail is that you can actually summon the previously mentioned eldritch abomination, also known as Nokturnus. He's the game's superboss and if you defeat him fast enough he'll do what he was summoned to do, wipe the floor with Mortamor and then peace out.

Adramahlihk from Divinity 2 Original Sin. Though called an archdemon does seems to act more like a devil in regards to the D&D definition. Lots about him that are terrifying. The corruption of Bloodmoon Island, its scheming and possessing of a number of characters in the entire series (apparently he has been a constant issue since the first game), attempting to become the divine, and too many other things to mention from this game. Like just the implications of everything he’s done from details in demon-infested locations is chilling. The fight with him is so hard that there’s a side quest in the game that allows you to start the fight with him being at 50% less health.

Idea for top 10 list: “Top 10 Unexpected Bosses.” Basically, any boss that make you think “WTF?” But ONLY in the cutscene before you fight it or during its spawn animation (if it’s an open world game). Also, because there are different types of “wtf” reactions for different scenarios, you can decide whether it’s a good wtf or a bad one. It doesn’t matter if the fight itself is good, bad, or mediocre. All that matters is if the intro/spawning to said boss made you think “WTF?!”

It feels weird to see Manus on this list when he's from a series that has an entire civilization built around demons, and he's a creation of the abyss which is something else. As for big bad? He's more of a victim than anything; a man long since dead whose rest has been disturbed, his humanity lashing out, writhing and expanding. Killing him is as good for him as it is for Oolacile, a mercy. As for demons themselves... Bed of Chaos has the best lore, while the Demon Princes has the best fight. Could go even further and go with the Burnt Ivory King possessed by Chaos.

Ngl I was totally expecting Daimon from Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on the list. He's a boss with a tragic backstory, tough fight, fierce attacks, and a sad but epic theme. He is also motivated to destroy everything after being set up to either kill the dragon that happened to be a former Arisen and mother figure, or the freed pawn of that Arisen that he fell in love with. While his actual destruction spree seems non-existant, his anger and hatred have permeated the entirety of Bitterblack Isle, threatening to unleash death on the world.

I have an idea for a list. A "Nothing left to lose" fight. A final boss fight where the two combatants have literally nothing but their pride left to motivate them. They may have lost family. They may be on the edge of death. But the only thought on their minds is one singular thing: Kill the opposition. I have four examples of this: The final Ryuji Goda fight from Yakuza Kiwami 2, the final Liquid Ocelot fight from Metal Gear Solid 4, 9S Vs. A2 in NieR: Automata, and the Shadowlord fight from the original Nier.

Great countdown Josh. So, Angelic/Divine Bosses next? Looking forward to it. Regarding Manus.....While there are Demons of the Chaos Flame in Dark Souls, Manus is a curious case. He is a primordial human. One of the Ancestors of Humanity in Dark Souls. And Primordial Humans were very in tune with the Abyss. However, with the extension of the Age of Fire, Man's connection with the Abyss atrophied. The Abyss began to go rampant. I don't remember all of the details, so I may need to check around KZbin for lore. VaatiVidya is practically the Chief of Dark Souls, Demon Souls, BloodBorne, and Elden Ring Lore. Anyway, when Manus connected to the Abyss, such time had passed that Manus had no control of the dark power of the Abyss. This led to the madness that eventually mutated him into what Artorias and the Chosen Undead fought. Also, sidenote: he was not fully dead after he was beaten. He was fragmented. These fragments were encountered in the DLC of Dark Souls II. These Fragments developed their own wills. And they each caused a lot of chaos. Except perhaps one fragment in particular. I am also curious about your eldritch and devil countdowns. Going by DnD, we have the shades of evil. Lawful Evil, there is a twisted order. With themes of deals, pacts, and particularly worded contracts. With Chaotic Evil, we have sin, chaos and destruction for its own sake. But then we have neutral evil. The version where said evil entity is willing to follow or break rules on a whim. So long as it accomplishes its ultimate goal. In both DnD and Pathfinder, we have the various Fiends. Evil Outsiders from beyond our plane. The Devils being Lawful Evil, and Demons being Chaotic Evil. There are other fiends that fall in those spectrum of evil. With neutral evil, we have the Yugoloth in DnD. In Pathfinder, we have the Daemons, the Div, and the Sahkil. The Daemons are basically xenocidal jerks. The Divs are fallen genies. The Sahkils are fallen psychopomps. As for Okami. Love the game. I beat it and Okamiden. Though, I wonder how the Okami 2 I heard about will play? Also, did you do a countdown on Space Marines? If not, would you cover Space marines only in games? Or include other Media? Because I have a crazy idea involving a mishmash of many different scifi franchises and pitting them against each other. I'm talking Colonial Marines vs Mobile Infantry from Starship Troopers vs N7 from Mass Effect vs Adeptus Astartes from 40K and so on. Anyway, Happy Halloween!

Odo and Odeo is the other way around. Odo is an incelosaurus-rex who kills females of other tribes because it itself can't mate. The fact that the chapter is themed around love and only females were seen captured by the Kuu Tribe supports this notion. Odeo is powered by thousands of liquefied humans despite the machines only really needing one, and all that effort to farm that many people don't even matter because the boss was intentionally designed to be easy to kill, what with the self-destruct trigger at its back.
