Don't think games like OWLBOY, SAMOROST 3 and EPISTORY was overlooked. The attention they received, as well as their sales figures, is what most smaller indie develops dreams of getting. But definitely an exciting list of games where it is worth checking out some of them.

+Giant Goblin I know 2 of those were put in bundles and go on sale often.
@Mandrake426 жыл бұрын
Being put in a bundle doesn't mean they were a failure though. I have seen plenty of games that I know were wildly successful that I've seen in bundles, especially at humble. Anyway, this might interest you: waypoint.vice.com/en_us/article/9a8e8d/owlboy-took-10-years-to-make-but-what-happened-next

I totally agree with Owl Boy being way too expensive... especially for 8 hours of gameplay. Glad I got it on sale. ^^

An excellent appreciation for indie games, as an indie dev who struggles to pay the bills to do what they love, its nice to see how much appreciation can be showered on indie games when they're well made and fill a niche that no one else is occupying. Being a one man developer doesn't help too much either with regard to workload, just launched an indie go go to try and cover steams fees and raise some money for some advertising. If u wana check our indiegogo campaign its live here www.indiegogo.com/projects/minimum-wage-all-play-and-all-work for the next few days

I would call Owlboy the most overhyped indie game, as in - not deserving attention it's getting. It's graphics and that's it - gamedesign is extremely simplistic and boring, it's just not interesting to play

I have Glitchspace and backed it in Early Access. As a fan of Portal and a silly excuse to get into coding cause I'm technologically stupid. As for Shantae, I have one of the games and wanted to pick up it up. The game is an easy and fun platformer which I love because I'm bad at competitive stuff. Only issue I have with Risky's Revenge is that I'm having some problems figuring out where to go (I refuse to look up a guide) but I get it eventually.

CrossCode is kind of overlooked considering the insane quality and content in it. Although it's still in Early Access.

Thank you. I had not heard of many of these. I think that I will get Epistory... I was just thinking that a game requiring skill other than button-mashing would be very interesting. I was thinking of using timing and such to determine damage, but I really like the idea of typing words to kill enemies. Probably the best mechanic for mainstream games would be to have different weapons require different skills. For instance, I could easily see some magic attacks requiring you to type different things.

Dark Mouse is very good. This Owl Boy had a heavy publicity, I hear people talking about it all the time, but it looks very unappealing, and is more expensive than the average game in this style.

The art of OwlBoy is absolutely lovely. It gives the whole game a lot of character. The trouble is that it failed at making a good retro game : it copy pastes mechanics seen in old games BUT fails at making anything new or even remotely interesting with them or it's level design. I can't say I have spend a bad time with the game (again, lovely art) but that is in no way an overlooked indie gem.

Unlike Metroidvania and Roguelike/lite, Souslike is not a concept. Cuphead is Soulslike. The Surge is Soulslike. Dark Maus is Souslike. Hollow Knight is Soulslike. What do all these games have in common? Barely anything. At this point any game that's either hard, an rpg, atmosferic, or has "Dark" in its name, is Soulslike. If you want to compare games to Dark Souls, just say what they have in common. Souslike is too redundant.
@SkylentShoreqwert6 жыл бұрын
+Pedro Nascimento all but 1 of those games literally cites Darksouls as insperation and you throwing in cuphead is random.
@Triattt6 жыл бұрын
No, it was not random, even if you yourself did not call Cuphead "the Dark Souls of plataformers", a lot of critics did! And how does the devs doing the exact same thing as the critics solve the problem? The lack of specificity stands.
@SkylentShoreqwert6 жыл бұрын
+Pedro Nascimento "the darksouls of" isnt comparing the game to darksouls but contrasting it with other similar games since Darksouls was at the time opposite in many ways to modern AAA design.
@Triattt6 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, mate but I don't agree. In most of the cases, and there's a lot so that may be the case for a few of them, the comparison is made because there's a few features that are similar to the Souls games itself. And it would be ok if it was "standardized". But as it is, its mostly meaningless, and a way of promotion. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6CydGWvbthnjKM Check this out, if you haven't. You'll get the idea I'm failing to express.
@mattbuergel84876 жыл бұрын
Pedro Nascimento roguelike/lite has the same exact issue as soulslike. Roguelike has morphed into ... everything. I saw someone call a regular platformer that just happened to be difficult a “true roguelike” because you die a lot in it. I think soulslike could certainly be a genre just like roguelike if people actually stuck to the definition. For example, salt and sanctuary has a ton in common with dark souls. That is one game that could definitely be called a soulslike.
