If you have knowledge of the tcg/ocg from like, 2014-now, it makes it easier to know what's good or not and what's coming. But yes, picking a deck you like and stick with it is never a bad investment. You really should never pick based on what's "meta" unless you intend to go ham in KOG ranked, competitively. I'm not just saying that because "fun first". "Top of the Meta" decks are strong and because they're strong, they're liable to get ban-listed. Random "Fun Decks" mostly don't have this problem. Using myself as an example: I loosely kept up with the tcg/ocg when Thunder Dragons were a thing. I never played them, but I knew what they were, and that they were top tier, and fusion based deck. Duel Links did not and still doesn't have the Thunder Dragon Fusions. Yet it was top tier. I like their design. I finished my Fusion Red-Eyes (fun) deck and was looking for a competitive deck to climb. I started building Thunder Dragons because I know they're top tier at the time. But it was not playable for almost half a year until the UR select ticket when I got the Dragonhawk. It's a good investment because they fun, they special summon focused, which means Xyz (as we now see), and in the future, they still might get their Fusion Cards. Of course, by the time it was playable for me, they got hit on the banlist the next week. (So if you only want the "best deck" recognize, you're chasing a moving goal post). Year long Era of Shiranui, Invoked, Desperado, Heroes, Blue-Eyes. Wound up making DDDs for the same reason as my incomplete Thunder Dragons. Turns out, DDDs are fun and got me to KoG pretty easily but they were not the top of the meta to my knowledge. Thunder Dragons come off the banlist, I get the 2nd Dragonhawk, no Levianeer but in a completely playable state a year+ later. Now, a bit into the Xyz era, Thunder Dragons looking pretty good.... but Im aiming for Hieratics. Not because they Top of the Meta, but because it's another deck I know I'll enjoy for a while, even going into the future. Tl;dr moral of the story Find a deck you like, (quizzes/loaner deck duels are good for that) and stick with it. Chances are, you'll be able to build other decks too as a coincidence (like, I want Hieratics but have the whole Digital Bug deck). And just try to enjoy the game. If you wanna play yugioh super competitively, you're gonna need a lot of money or a lot of luck to do it, so don't stress yourself out over it.

If you have Dragonhawks already then definitely, the Xyz’s here will always be useful. Levianeer also works well in many decks

Thunder Dragons will stay relevant. They aren't even at full power yet. And they've been on the banlist before, but were still relevant. Use a Dream Ticket on Hawk if need be. You only need 2 Levi, 3 is bricky.

Good thing: it keeps your XYZ from being destroyed (but not from being banished) Bad thing: it typically sits at about 2500 ATK on average, unlike Heliopolis that is a flat 3000 ATK from the get-go

Lmao my triamids DESTROY both of these decks (I've only ever lost to NK once and that was due to my own fault). And NK and Desperado beat Blue Eyes and Blackwings. It's not really about what beats what. It's about how many people are playing what and to what degree. You play triamids, but do you play them Legend-KoG rank? I'm willing to bet you come across Blue-Eyes and Blackwings more frequently than most other decks. Right after those, is stuff like NK and Desperado. Sure you may beat them, but Triamids are not super common. The power rankings are based on KoG Tournament Performance where we see this principle at play. You dont get to the top by beating the 1 deck that counters you, you get there by beating everything that's most common. Because the chances are, you've already met those common decks and lost to them, meaning you wont be an opponent anyway. There are exceptions of course. And there's plenty of stories where the Rogue pick somehow makes it pass all the Tier 3, and Tier 2 decks and easily defeats the Tier 1 King deck because that's what it specializes in. My favorite example of this was in the ocg, where a random Red-Eyes deck was able to beat out the Tier 0 powerhouse deck that was the ABC. Random but yeah, excuse the essay

@@R.E.E.D. Of course I play with triamids at Legends rank brother. I also played with them in the 2nd stage of last 2 KC cups. I'm not mentioning BW and Blue eyes because I'm annoyed of losing to them all the time, but rather that's the decks I saw on this power ranking meme @0:59. I rarely lose with triamids, BW and Blue Eyes just have more chance if they pop off with multiple Raikiri and Alternative dragon+Vermillion summons in 1 turn. That said, triamids do have unfavourable matchups against Dragunity (turn 1 or turn 2) and synchro decks going into Avery on first turn. You probably haven't played against experienced Triamid players to see some of their amazing play potentials - I rarely have mirror matches, and most of them have poor traps in their deck like power stone (yeah it's crap despite Dkayed video)

Yeah I've not had issues with Fire Kings, and I have 3 Arvata in my Fire King deck. Thunder Dragons play through negates and destruction without much issue unless they brick. That's why it's my favorite deck.
