I would suggest using the camera in manual as much as possible. Back in the day when I shot with film, you had to choose one roll of film with a single ISO. Usually 400iso. So try putting the camera in 400iso and leave it there for your next shoot. Use the aperture and shutter speed to allow the right amount of light. This will be painful at times but really teaches you about aperture v shutter. Finally, take your camera with you everywhere and get shooting.
@StephenHamill5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips. Great as always. Just in case you are looking for ideas for content, I’d love to see a tutorial for us dad-home-video makers that deals with the ideal setup for run and gun. I like to keep the shutter speed on double the frame rate but then we get stepping when the light changes. What do you do? Do you use ND filters? Manual aperture? Manual ISO? Just an idea.

I accidentally found out that if you hold the joystick down for a few seconds you can lock it so that it wont more your focus point when it bumps into your hip or coat. When locked then in order for the focus point to move you just click the stick once first. It's been a lifesaver for me! (also, if you move the focus point and want to bring it back to the center again, just click the stick when the focus grid is up). My camera is an XT3, so it's likely available on the xt30, x100v, xpro3, and xt4 and maybe on the xt2, xpro2, and xh1.

Fuji pairs well with vintage lenses. I always shoot RAW; you can always edit your image in camera by pressing the Q button on your selected image, from there you can apply film simulations, adjust contrast, eposure etc. Another great free editor for Fuji cameras is the Fujifilm X Raw studio (completely free) which actually uses your cameras image processor to do all the work. Capture one is a great editor also. I'd also like to mention that the Fuji X-A range cameras don't have the X-trans sensor so they play well in Light room (My wife has an X-A5). Just some info for people who might be interested.

Thank You Omar, this was definitely one of the channels that convinced me to change from Canon after about 10 years. I watched 100s of vids and really investigated before switching because I loved my Canon (5Diii 6D 17-40, 50 1.4, 135f2). I spent less than 2,000 on used T2+56 1.2, T1 + 18mm 15 -45 (less than a Full Frame body). The new system and focal lengths has been super inspiring, although there was a bit of a learning curve. Now about 6 months in, I'm confident in the equipment and my ability to get the best out of it. I spend hours zooming in and marveling at the Fuji files hahahaha. People who know my work well have commented that my pictures still look like my pictures, which is what I was after, like I said, I was happy with Canon. But, can you imagine how much lighter my new camera bag is?... My tip for new fuji users is to learn how to customize the system to your needs, and just keep shooting, shoot whatever you have, you can't shoot what you wish you had. Then go study the files, what is working and what is not at diff't focal lengths and F stops, learn your equipment, don't blame it ..One problem I had switching to Fuji was camera shake, I never had that problem with the FF Canon. I really had to learn how to concentrate on keeping the smaller cameras steady (I bought myself a battery grip for the T2 for Christmas).. Overall, My experience is that the camera system doesn't matter.. Full Frame Canon or apsc Fuji my photos are recognizably my photos.. Thanks again Omar, I've really enjoyed your videos this past year. So keep up the good work in 2020. Happy Holidays

+tip: you can save different auto iso settings with the custom settings. For me the default is 1/125 for all 3 auto iso modes then in C2 I set it to aim for 1/250. This way it's super easy to switch and still use auto iso when I need it.

My setup has evolved to this: I shoot manual everything. I use back button focus and have enabled focus assist w.focus peak (high) yellow. My front button is the level. The top button is the timer. My pad buttons are AF-C Custom settings AF Mode, Face-Eye Detection and Histogram. I have turned the swipes on the LCD off. The top line of My Menu is Drive Settings, then MF Assist, then Focus Check, then Shutter Type...By the way, I shoot RAW and use Lightroom to process the files and have had no issues, but I did use Capture One just to see the difference and it wasn't anything for me to switch from Lightroom to Capture One, but that's me.

My tip is to become intuitive with your Fuji. Best example is knowing how many presses of the viewmode goes from “eye sensor” to “evf only” to “lcd only”. Knowing stuff like this going into a shooting situation keeps your attention on the subject and getting the shot.

Happy new year Omar and my tips on Fujifilm is enjoy manual mode. It’s because Fujifilm designs her cameras well. They have many dial on the camera such as shutter speed dial and ISO dial. Most of lenses has aperture ring. That’s great for manual mode and makes you flexible to make your images.

Great video, as usual. Another topic I bet a lot of new users will ask about is the importing process. If they're used to just using their phones as their camera importing isn't something they even deal with so much. I had my X-T2 for 6 months before I figured out the built in Image Capture in OS X would import the camera images no problem. You don't always have to pull the SD cards out.

I just use my left thumb to hit the playback. No sensor blocking issue. Also with touch screen, provided you shoot mainly with the evf, you can designate which portion of the lcd that is used to move the auto focus point/area. I tend to shoot using my right eye so my face isn’t on the camera and using either the right half or lower right corner of the lcd to rapidly change focal point. Super effective and convenient. I absolutely love fuji cameras and optics. I’ll pick up my x100v next Thursday and the xt4 whenever it’s released along with the awesome 18-55 kit lens along with the 90mm f/2. Perfecto!

Mieke was the first prime lens I bought. It was a 50mm f/2 for $99 I believe. So if anyone new wants a prime lens for cheap I recommend to try it. It is manual focus though.

An even more affordable (and sustainable) alternative for a prime lens is to revive a vintage film lens. You can get an excellent Minolta 50mm f1.7 for under $30. Add a $10 MD-to-FX adatper and you have a prime with much better quality than a made in China cheapo lens.

I got tired of making payments for Lightroom every month, so I kicked them to the curb. I did try Luminar 3 and it is an EXCELLENT program and is VERY affordable. The only problem I have is it is VERY LAGGY and SLOOOOOOOOW on Windows. I have heard it works well on IOS. I have complained to the company and they suggested I try Luminar 4, which I did and it is still VERY SLOOOOOOOW. I was in between these two months ago. I got the X-T20 last month. I have been shooting majorly in JPEG and the delivery is lovely, I haven't had to really bother much with RAW. I would recommend the X-T20. It is more professional, more buttons, better customs, great output, you even have the tiny grip already, better than the none with X-T100, aside the tilting screen and selfies 📷💁 you can see before shooting on X-T100. Like I said, it is the more professional option. And if you do have extra cash - go for the X-T30. And the lens you want to get, should likely depend on the type of pictures you like to shoot, i.e. your type of photography. I went for the FUJINON 18-135 F3.5-5.6... , because of the huge dynamic range it gives me in terms of close shots and far off shots. I have enjoyed it for my landscape, travel 🏠🚘✈🚢🗼🌉, a number of portraits and more, and with you knowing how to use your gadget, adjust it well, I have taken some good shots for food photography - including Coffee ☕, Indian food, pizza 🍕, steaming food 🍱🍜 (Yay) and others. It meets my need for general photography, which I got it for. Looking to by a prime lens with a good F number soon. So, watch videos, check reviews and decide based on what you enjoy - your style and what you know can work for you and work with it to be the best you want it to be and be the best 👍💯. Regards.

Is it really worth it to go for an expensive body(fuji xt 30 or 20 or sony a 6400) with all the feature or settle in with the entry level one (xt 100 or sony a6000) if you just need to use the camera as travel companion and clicking family photos

@@edwardjmw thanks Edward for the reply first of all. I need the camera as my travel companion and for clicking my family and travel photos only.

I was just checking out an XT3 tonight at a local shop and neither I, nor any of the employee's in the shop could figure out how to get Face and Eye tracking to work. We had it turned on in the menu, but not sure what else we were missing. Anyone care to expand on how to get this to work. It appears from the video that Omar has it in "S", but nothing else specific. I tried so many settings, that I am sure we tried "S", but maybe not. I know towards the end of messing with it, we were convinced that it would need to be in "C" to track the face, so we kept it there. Thank you for any help you may offer. Really wanting to pick one up, but wanted to see how well the face and eye detection worked.

AF/MF menu. Face detection set to ON. You could also set a custom button to toggle it on/off. Works in single or continuos.

Thanks Omar, thanks again! Have you done something like this about the XF10 or X-E3? I recently bought these, and I have noticed there is no mode for video. How I shoot in video in X-E3 or XF10? Well, I am asking you first, before reading the manuals. Thanks for the tip on registering the units, I have not yet done it.

Hit the button that looks like the KZbin icon. That is the drive mode selector. Video is at the bottom of the list that appears on the screen. After you select video use the shutter button to start and stop recording. You have to open the drive again to switch back to shooting stills.

I'm not new to the Fuji system, but the last Fuji I've used was the X100s which is quite antique compared to the X-T3 I just got, so thanks! 😊

Hello Omar. I must admit that I just bought a Fuji X-T20 because of you. Your nice videos with help to configure the equipment have not managed, however, to get me to navigate with ease through that intricate maze of menus. At the moment I hate my camera, most of the time I don't know why the toothed wheel no longer opens the diaphragm, when a few seconds ago it did. Sometimes it looks blue, sometimes white ... hmm I guess I should read the user manual. Greetings from Spain.

Hola Omar, I really enjoyed the video. Subed ! Hope you are doing well during these challenging times. Hope your time in NYC is going OK. I've never seen it like this! Together we will make it through. Thanks for the video. Enjoyed the tips. I also love Op/Tech, I highly recommend all the straps. Tips: OP/TECH dual camera straps when you really need two cameras at events. OP/TECH all single camera straps for single cameras. I tried using the double strap with one camera and had mixed results. FUJI X-T2 AUTO-FOCUS for those that did not upgrade yet. Make the single point two sizes larger to get fast and accurate focus. The small point and the second smallest seem to be for specific use cases. It will hunt for focus. The bigger box gives it more to analyze and will focus faster. Don't go to an event and leave it on the smallest one and then learn the hard way after!! I don't really know if they improved this in X-T3 or X-T4, sorry but I hope they did. Auto-Focus: There is so much customization here. Really play with it and learn the different modes to learn it. Hard to do on the spot when stuff is happening. The tip on saving your looks is BRILLIANT!! A MUST!!!!! Coming from Nikon and Canon, I was not used to it at all. Definitely had to play with that a bit to get the settings right. Software: Adobe - It's better but not the best in recent updates. Definitely an improvement. Unfortunately, still a lot of work to be done. Changing to DNG helps like you mentioned in the video, however, I had issues with DNG in software that was not Adobe, so I would only use DNG with Adobe. Luminar - I really wish I could recommend this software, however compared to lightroom I'm looking at a turtle walk instead of a chettah like Adobe. I do like the features, but not worth the time. Would need an uber powerful machine to keep up with that beast of software. On1 Photo RAW - Honestly, I paid for Adobe, Luminar, On1. If I was going with an alternative, I will choose On1. On1 hands down has been amazing alternative. Has worked so well, I've had some serious thoughts on major changes to my workflow. I have not decided to yet, however it's a big possibility. I hope you stay safe!!

Thank you for the tips! I just got my Xt4 last week and I've been using it with the Fringer and the Sigma 18-35. I'm actually really blown away from the results of not only video but photo too. My main camera is anFs7ii and I don't think I'm going to have any issues matching these 2 cameras.

Many thanks! I have had my X-T2 for a few years now and loathed it, but everyone else loves it - at 9:45 you hit the nail on the head - the contrast on jpegs and playback was so awful, I had no idea what was going on - am going to give it another chance.
