Mia, Mia, Mia! It will be perfect in that fabric, and will be stunning on you. I liked hearing about your experience with sewing socials. I can be a bit on the solitary side, generally, so walking into a space with people I don't know can feel so daunting. It's easier when you know you have something in common already with everyone. The advice that most people are thinking the same thing in regards to being nervous or wondering if they'll have comparable skills, etc, is so good. Lots of people are self-conscious and self-focused in that way, and it's good to remind ourselves of that. I'm rarely fit for public consumption and time I'm at home, and sewing is no exception... barefoot, not wearing much, as comfy as possible. So, sewing in a group does feel a bit odd. I did take a class last year, which is the only social sewing I've done so far, and just having shoes on was such an adjustment. I am interested in finding some social sewing in my area, because it would be really nice to make a friend or two that I can share this new hobby of mine with.

Here in Kentucky, USA most ladies are quilters. I have gone on a few multi-way retreats taking my garment sewing projects to be assembled on my serger and straight stitch machine. It's hilarious, others arrive with collapsable wagons and unload their mini vans of multi-thousand dollar sewing machines, projects, irons, fabrics, reject supplies to share and too many things to mention. But the chit-chat is so fun, everyone is so human. We learn techniques, eat a lot, borrow things and hear proclamations when another makes beginner mistake in a social situation. I sewed two raglan sleeves together right out of the gate. sometimes I get FOMO that I don't craft sew more, but I mostly stay in the apparel sewing lane. Like any travel, take notes on how to prepare better next time while you are in the moment. My conclusion is retreats take much preparation, the sewing won't be your very best, so take easy but it is worth it to be with like minded ladies. when the final stitch has been sewn and the tables have all been put back, my cup is full, I am tired but energized and motivated to sew up a storm. That was a long comment!!

Love your Xanthe. Definitely think it would look good in white. And yes, the Mia dress in that fabric would look nice. Lovely to see you back - hopefully we can have a proper catch-up soon! Xx

Hi Jess You made me laugh so much 😂 I’m just like you, tea, video, one sock and knickers in my sewing room 😂😂 I have been to one ‘in person’ sewing social - run by Tania (just let me sew on you tube) and recommended by sequin girlie Sam - and I absolutely loved it 🥰 I’m going again in June and I can’t wait. I have also been to a couple of Sam’s virtual socials and I think I’m addicted 😊❤

i just now ordered that Singer heavy duty machine that you use. This will be my first new machine since 1978. Im mostly a quilter, who makes a few garments, here and there. that machine seems to work well for you. So Im excited for it to be delivered. I always LOVE your videos. Thanks for posting.

So glad you brought up the solitary sewist phrase as I certainly fit in to that category- especially sewing in one sock although mine is usually my baps falling out my dressing gown 😂

bahaha that got me 😂 I feel like the solitary sewist is an absolute vibe though

the xanthe skirt looks great, I bought a xanthe kit at the stich festival; read the instructions and decided it was going to be quite challenging to sew... it's still in the box. Well done for tackling that at a sewing sewcial.

Thank you! I would definitely say to go with your instincts when sewing the Xanthe and maybe ignore some of the instructions 😂 but im definitely going to sew another one!

I think i like the idea of a sewinf social but..... would I feel in my comfort zone at one?! As there aren't any in my area not really an issue. If you watch Janine Sews from Calgary Alberta Canada she recently did a vlog where she talks about making jeans and how she learned about waistbands. I'd love to see a sew a long with the jean skirt, those pockets are so interesting.

I hope something sewcial appears in your area! And i will check her channel out ☺️ and start working on a sneaky sew-a-long!
