Actually it's far more complicated than the US exam. Think of it: the theoretical exam is 20 questions thematically grouped in sections, if you make one mistake, in the end you are given 5 extra questions, one more mistake - you fail. Two mistakes in the same section, you fail, two mistakes in two different sections, you are given 10 more questions, one more mistake - you fail. Questions are real road situations with options which decision would it be right to make (compare to this bullshit in the USA - like, "how does being drunk influence your driving a) makes it worse b) makes it better c) dunno lol"). Then there's a practice exam in a training area which is relatively easy, then there's an exam in the city streets which can vary from easy to impossible depending on the policeman's mood, for example. There's no such things as learner's permits, you have to complete all this to drive a car (with the only exception being special training cars with additional clutch/brake/acc. on the passenger side for the instructor). Actually the process of obtaining a license in Russia is quite challenging, but the thing is - one can just buy it and it is quite fucking cheap. That is the problem xD

There's a car in front of you on the street / highway. It's stopped, waiting to make a left turn. Do you... A) begin to gently apply the brakes and slow down gradually so you stop in plenty of time to avoid hitting it.....or do you...B) slam on the brakes far too late for that to make any difference and smash into it full tilt. It's truly amazing how many people choose option B.

The primary issue in most of these crashes was poor tires and suspension, and/or the existence of SUVs or trucks in general. In many cases, the car trying to avoid a wreck simply wasn't capable of doing what the driver needed it to, such as stopping or turning. The other issue was the drivers, trying to pull off maneuvers that the cars simply weren't capable of doing. Moral of the story is to drive a performance car and know what its limits are.

The thing to note with these clips is that Russia has a large population, it's pretty much prerequisite to have a dashcam to get insurance, and so they WILL catch more accidents than say, the US or UK. Yes, their driving standard leaves something to be desired, as does their vehicle maintenance, but in general it isn't anywhere near as bad as these videos show, your just seeing the accidents, NOT the non accidents.
