Just got back from Narragansett and fished alittle Friday and Sat..Tried alittle fishing at black point and got one black fish..Wind picked up Friday.Drove down to Point Judith.Did not realize it was being repaired and of limits to fish, unless you go there on maybe at night or Sunday when no one is around.Should be in the Bay like you maybe to avoid the windy conditions.Was using some swim baits for the stripers.Guess early and late are best times.

Great videos, thanks! I've been fishing this area of Narragansett Bay by foot and boat. When it's hot it's hot, when it's not.....etc. Looking forward to getting some Spring schoolies soon. Last fall this area was HOT HOT with Bluefish late last summer. Keep up the good fishing, and thanks again for the great videos!!

Question for you Rich, so I noticed there were no birds dropping or any signs of baitfish boiling ....what made you pick a top water lure? How do you approach your choice of lure?
@FishAholicTV8 жыл бұрын
Yeah well actually this was my first time to this spot so a very good question. But usually when I am assessing the conditions for what bait to fish or what baits will work I look at the tide, is it moving is it going out?, coming in?, bottom type(sandy, rock, etc and depth flat or quickly dropping off) here at this location I new I was fishing a rocky flat and because it was the top of the tide the fish usually get pushed up on top of the flat as the water comes in then as the water drops they retreat. In addition because of the flat calm water and early morning conditions bass in this scenario are going to be cruising suspended looking for bait up on that flat. I prob could of through a variety of baits like bucktail, or Swimbait but I opted for the popper because the conditions were perfect. If I was fishing this spot mid day on a falling tide I would prob throw a bucktail or Swimbait and the same on a rising tide. But once the tide is almost high is high or is just about to go out
@FishAholicTV8 жыл бұрын
And it's evening or morning those fish are going to be pushed up or up and a popper will get the job done

Light tackle fishing for schoolies and smaller keepers is so much fun vs 1 big cow on the heavy duty setup and gear! The way a 26" striper fights for its size vs a 44" is what I call "wild crazy kid vs drunk old man". Rather play tug of war instead of hauling in dead weight after that long run. My setup is a Conflict 2500 with 14lb Berkley Trilene Braid on a 7'6" Star Rods Stellar or sometimes on a 7'6" Field & Stream Inferno.
@FishAholicTV8 жыл бұрын
yeah very true sometimes going light is all you need to make a smaller fish feel like your 40. haha I try and go light in most situations but sometimes a bigger setup is necessary depending on the conditions. Good Setup! keep fishing tight lines!
@michaelsimko76948 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I use my 9' Star Rods Stellar with the same reel and line if I'm throwing heavier lures and need to get out farther. Landed a 39" 20 pound 13 ounce striper with 15 pound braid last year. Just need to know how to handle the fish and make sure the drag is set.
@FishAholicTV8 жыл бұрын
Nice setup, yeah exactly its all about how you handle the fish. If theres not crazy structure around your good but you know if your fishing around like a bridge with lots of structure you dont bring a knife to a gunfight.

90% of the time I spend surfcasting is where there's hardly any rocks and it's mostly sandy, such as flats and reefs. If the tide is too high or the fish are active in a certain area, I'll be near rocks or standing on some rocks just above the water, but not as rocky as Montauk and Block Island. 1 other habitat I only fish during the spring and fall striper runs is lower tidal rivers that have current.

Hi in the back bays of long island do you think it's to early for schoolies or striped bass. Thanks, nice vid btw

Well this Smackit Jr like I am using now and as well small 1oz wood Gibbs bottle nose poppers. I'll make a video soon using the Gibbs poppers.

Great video. That happened me too with the smack it jr poppers when I caught Bluefish on them. I don't think the hardware on that comes on those plugs are that great
