Humans are homo sapien sapiens. Neanderthals are homo sapiens neanderthals. Believe it or not, humans and neanderthals are the same species. Humans have been shown to be more intelligent and well equipped in comparison to neanderthals and even though neanderthals and humans lived side by side. Humans won out. Neanderthals DNA is still present within our genome and it's estimated about 1-2% neanderthal DNA. It is not like comparing a house cat to a lion. It's way closer to comparing the Wolf to the Domesticated Wolf (or dog) which are both the same species: canis lupus. Even more so, humans are now further evolved than neanderthals were. We have become more specialized, even more intelligent, and furthered our reach throughout the world. To compare a neanderthal to a modern human would be the exact same as comparing a less evolved version of modern day humans to us. Because they are literally a less evolved version of us. We are the same species.
