Paint lasts forever if it’s looked after. I just finished restoring 2 vintage dodges and it took over a week on each car to rub it back to get the paint like that. Great idea fine lining the high points.

Now that's what I call lateral and longitudinal thinking. Masking off all the swedge lines, for example, to prevent sanding through the edges is a very simple but highly effective method. The design and quality of the DAs and machine polishers enable the kind of precision aimed at and achieved in this tutorial. Having the right tools and equipment combined with a fine eye for detail and plenty of patience are key elements in achieving a flawless finish. I wonder whether the secret stage involves baking the car at a certain temperature after a certain (ceramic?) coating has been applied and removed to create a protective barrier and lasting finish.

This is also why you can by a 7 year old $100K S Class for 20-25% of it's value while a same year same mileage Honda Accord only dropped 50% of it's value while retaining it. As years go by from there, the Honda will hit residual value while the luxury cars continues to drop. Fact.

Just felt so good and scary knowing that people entrust you with the responsibility then believing enough in myself to not completely screw it up trying to pretend like it was nothing more than a practice hood from the junkyard and best yet is when you pull it off and the owner (rest in peace you’re one of the greatest men I ever had the honor to know ) comes in and says great job with a smile, looking back it’s still humbling. Orange peel is a certain kind of finish that may develop on painted and cast surfaces, even screen protectors.[1] The texture resembles the surface of the skin of an orange. Gloss paint sprayed on a smooth surface (such as the body of a car) should also dry into a smooth surface. However, various factors can cause it to dry into a bumpy surface resembling the texture of an orange peel. The orange peel phenomenon can then be smoothed out with ultra-fine sandpaper, but it can be prevented altogether by changing the painting technique or the materials used. Orange peel is typically the result of improper painting technique, and is caused by the quick evaporation of thinner, incorrect spray gun setup (e.g., low air pressure or incorrect nozzle), spraying the paint at an angle other than perpendicular, or applying excessive paint. In some situations, such as interior house paint, the orange peel texture is desirable. In this case, a texture paint is generally applied with a spray gun. The texture is then painted over with the appropriate color. When painting walls, orange peel can also develop by using a roller with too little paint or too thick a paint and the surface dries before the texture can level.

If you sanded off the clear coat, at what point do you apply the new clear coat as i didnt see that
@scottstefaniak80985 жыл бұрын
Some orange peel on a paint job is good. The orange peel helps diffract the sun light. When you cut and buff a paint job flat the clear coat acts like a magnifying glass and will degrade the base coat underneath. I’ve flat sanded several show cars over the years and I’ve always told the customers to keep them out of the sun as much as possible. Flat sanding a car looks awesome but it’s not something you would want to do to your daily driver that gets parked outside all the time.
