I can tell you about in California, 6” thick min of concrete. For the road-base I normally add 4” and compact very well. I hope this answer help you on your project. Blessing.

Stuff works great but so messy , prefer the next day muriatic acid wash , or same day light sponge and acid , getting harder and harder to come by newspaper but I used to use to dry up my slabs quicker and that pulls up a thin layer or cement as well , works great and makes you get a nice acid etch finish slab, ol school tricks, but when you don't have all day and it's a big project , hot day then top cast it is 👍 nice work

How many times do you pressure wash after placing the topcast and do you stain the topcast too?
@stoneartscape
@stoneartscape Жыл бұрын
Is not law to pressure the top-cast, you have to taste the psi on a small area before pressure the top-cast. The top-cast you can satin days later after concrete is dry. I normally wait a month before starting the top-cast. Blessing.

Depende. Cuando hace mucho sol , alas 4 o 5 hrs. Y cuando hace sombra esperar al día siguiente por la mañana, ( no esperar más tiempo , ya que se pega al concreto y se mancha ) .

Nice work. And also labor intensive for setup and pour to get an architectural grid setup. Consider that you can get a higher quality finished product, and consistently better results with precast slab units that are readily available. And easy to install.🙂😉

There’s always a level of pride in doing every bit of it by hand.

@@2ndgenentertainment indeed. I was a concrete and terrazzo mason for over 40 years. My family in Italy were masons for over 100 years. I also was an architectural precast manufacturer for 25 of those 40 years. The entire precast process, from making a master, prepping it, then making a polyurethane or fiberglass mold was detailed and tedious. I can attest that if done well, concrete poured onsite doesn’t compare to the fine finish a well made mold can produce. There’s also the benefit of reproducing the castings multiple times. These topcast products are a nice development for both onsite work, and I would guess also in the shop for castings. Regardless, all hand work comes out well when there is pride of craftsmanship involved. In years gone by, it was normal. But I could see it slowly changing before I retired 13 years ago. Unfortunately, these days, because of cost,fast schedules, and an influx of workers that don’t always have that old school level of expertise and training, the quality isn’t as consistent. I hope that proper union training continues and craftsmanship can endure.
