Thanks for the fights TDH crew! Really nice to see the retire heavy ridelines fight! Eugene is in a interesting position right now, and I feel that the deck is just a few cards away from being really powerful. I'd like to point out some stuff I've been thinking here: 1. Eugene is not a deck that was made with orders in mind, therefore orders aren't easily accessible. Capture party is imo a staple, it's the card that really gives a substancial payoff from all the retires, but for it to be useful your opponent has to commit a board AND you have to draw it. Against decks like Gravidia, going first makes capture party become just a ditch fodder, and in a lot of cases you might just never get the order in your hand in the first place. 2. I think this game really showed how Eugene lacks rearguard pressure, he just can't push enough damage fast enough. Gravidia, on the contrary, is pressure the deck™. Both matches were completely controlled by Lon, and not even an OT was able to affect the outcome meaningfully. Interestingly enough, Eugene can have a LOT of Vanguard pressure, with Tribash and Orlando, while clearing your own board (and also making a new one later in case of Orlando!), but the rears can only gain power. Eugene so far is a 3 attack deck, the power isn't enough without getting crits, and this brings me to my next point... 3 - Eugene has really weird attack patterns and board states. Cards that give your Vanguard pressure only work when the Vanguard attacks, so you either attack with them first or make less optimal boards so you can have another rg attack after triggers. Yeah you can have a Tribash Orland column attack first, and have another column with anything else that would attack last, but that way you're STILL reducing your attack pressure because they could have been another Tribash column, or if you run fronts 10k power would be wasted... And if you run crits, a lot of times you would have to attack with your VG last and have no choice other than give all to VG. And yeah, you have both attackers and like Tribash on the back row, but again, less optimal board state, these could have been boosters! All of that makes the deck really awkward depending on your trigger lineup and cards choices. 4 - Eugene has a hard time making good boards, which is funny because his SB5 skill most likely was made to solve this! The randomness is what kills it tbf, that's why Capture Party is so important. Also one thing to keep in mind is that Eugene's rest 2 retire 1 asks a board from you to work, if you don't have easy retire cards available you'd have to commit hand just to make the SB5 skill live and gacha for some good rears. This and the order in hand problem that I talked about in section 1 make me think that you REALLY want to run draws in the deck, you need the right pieces at the right time, not running fronts is less defense and pressure in general, but I also think Eugene benefits best from crits and deck building that allows you to have at least one column available after drive checks and still have the VG pressure with Tribash-like cards. So yeah, this was my Eugene rambling, I really love the deck and want to see it becoming a meta contender, but rn it feels unfocused and clunky

Thanks for posting this video. I've been thinking about building Eugene between Sets 3 and 4, and seeing a deck I like in action is always cool.

Good games and great commentary. So what this really shows for both retire decks is they both can clear boards but Gravidia has more pressure with the high mid and after set 4, pretty consistent crit generation. Eugene can generate some good numbers with the new RR giving it another 20k swing but lacks the pressure for a 3 attack deck. Hopefully it gets lucky with 1 of the last R that could help with pressure.

The new "Eugene support" is more or less the generic RR of the set Bushiroad habitually gives Dragon Empire because Bavsargra & Overlord can also use it's effect to some degree.

Wow he was able to pull the double trigger off twice in the game that's super good I play gravidia worlds and i can only really do it like once a game and even then I wonder "should i....?" Cuz its so inconsistent

In my opinion, Alex misplayed in Game 1 since why would you call almost a full field against a retire deck nvm that he can superior call with Eugene but the calls are RNG and thus should not be relied upon unless necessary. It just made him use up all his good attackers. I also don't see him playing Orlando in the deck which is very good for an emergency RG on demand and buffing Eugene. Though the match up in general was poor since Gravidia rarely calls a full field usually just 2 front rows while Eugene prefers a full field for better numbers and with both decks being able to retire, it's not hard to see who will lose the resource game.
