Experience the incredible power and precision of an airplane landing up close in this breathtaking slow motion footage. Watch as the landing gear gracefully touches down on the runway, the engines roar and the plane comes to a stop. See the intricate details of the landing gear in action and appreciate the skill and technology that goes into every successful landing. This video is a must-see for aviation enthusiasts and anyone who marvels at the wonder of flight.
Aircraft landing gear is one of the critical subsystems of an aircraft. The primary function of the landing gear is to absorb the force of landing and, of course, prevent the fuselage from hitting the ground. Also another main function is to supports the aircraft on the ground, but also makes it possible for the aircraft to move forward on the ground with wheels, tires, and brakes. Moreover, it's designed to enable the aircraft to reach the required speed for takeoff.Usually made of steel, which is robust, but heavy. Some parts are also made of titanium alloys.

They will also lose money and gave it to the Pilot that they fired so that the Pilot can find a Different job easily. What kind of airline to hire than fire to lose tons of money am I right? For **Ryanair, They do not care weither a Pilot of theirs does a Hard or Soft Landing. What matters to them is they are gaining Income.**

1:22 The front set of tires touches the ground before the rear set. The suspension of the front set is independent of the rear set so they start oscillating up and down independently. Also, the dampers are wearing out (will need replacement in the future) because there shouldn't be that many oscillations. A critically damped Second Order system should settle very quickly.

I do not understand why manufacturers don't accelerate the wheels before touchdown. The plane knows its speed over ground, so why not set the wheels speed accordingly and avoid this massive stress and abrasion of the tires?
@topfelya
@topfelya 2 ай бұрын
Hi ! That's a very good question which people ask me a lot under this video. Let me explain it to you. Manufacturers actually do have systems in place to mitigate stress and abrasion on the tires during landing. One common system is called anti-skid braking, which adjusts the braking force on each wheel to prevent skidding and excessive wear. Additionally, modern aircraft often have systems that automatically modulate the brake pressure to optimize tire wear and landing performance. However, accelerating the wheels before touchdown isn't a common practice due to the complexity and potential risks involved. It could introduce unnecessary complications and increase the likelihood of malfunctions or accidents. Instead, aircraft systems are designed to manage touchdown forces and tire wear effectively without the need for pre-acceleration of the wheels.

Would it save tire wear if the wheels were turning on touchdown . Also making the impact safer. Could the side walls have small fins to make the wheels spin in a forward motion . at almost landing speed or at landing speed.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
@topfelya
@topfelya 4 ай бұрын
While the idea of having wheels turning upon touchdown to reduce tire wear and potentially make the impact safer is intriguing, it's important to consider the practicality and feasibility of implementing such a system. Adding mechanisms to make the wheels spin upon touchdown would add complexity to the landing gear system. This complexity could introduce potential points of failure and increase maintenance requirements. Also ! Introducing moving parts to the landing gear system could potentially compromise safety. Any malfunction or failure of the spinning mechanism could lead to unsafe landing conditions. I hope this answer was very helpful for you !

Why the smoke ? Because even though the wheels are free to rotate, at the moment of contact due to inertia the wheels don't start to rotate instataneously at the speed of the airplane. There is 'slip' (= sliding friction) between the surface of the tires and asphalt. This generates heat and cause some rubber to burn. Once the tires speed up to the speed of the airplane, the slip disappears and it's all rolling friction after that.

How does the pilot know when wheels touch the runway.
@topfelya
@topfelya 11 күн бұрын
The pilot knows when the wheels touch the runway through several cues: Physical Sensation: Pilots can feel the initial contact through the aircraft's structure. The sensation of the wheels touching the ground is transmitted through the airframe and seat. Auditory Cues: There is often a distinct sound when the wheels make contact with the runway. This sound can be heard in the cockpit. Instruments: Modern aircraft have various instruments and sensors that provide feedback on landing. For example, the "weight-on-wheels" sensor confirms when the aircraft is on the ground. Visual Cues: Pilots can often see the runway closely through their windows, allowing them to judge when the aircraft touches down. All these cues combined help the pilot to know exactly when the aircraft has landed.

The tilt of the 787 and the A330 is tilted backwards that the back tires of the landing gear can touchdown before the front tires and the A350 with ford tilted landing gear that the front tires tires touchdown before the back tires
@topfelya
@topfelya 3 ай бұрын
Well spotted mate ! This design is intentional and serves several purposes, one of which is to ensure that the back tires of the landing gear make contact with the runway before the front tires. This sequence helps distribute the weight of the aircraft more evenly upon touchdown, enhancing stability and control during the landing roll. It's a fascinating aspect of aircraft engineering that contributes to safe and efficient landings.

has anyone ever bothered to work out how much pollution the tyre smoking on ever landing produces?
@topfelya
@topfelya Ай бұрын
That's an interesting question! While I don't have exact numbers, I know that aviation authorities and environmental researchers are continuously studying the environmental impact of various aspects of aviation, including tire smoke during landings. Generally, the tire smoke produced on landing doesn't contribute much to overall pollution compared to other sources. Aircraft manufacturers are also working on ways to reduce overall emissions and environmental impact. Thanks for bringing this up!
